As for her comments about Elvis though, Sorry, Big Momma was wrong for that. Even people that knew Big Momma personally, (plus some of her own biographers) have researched this deeply and found there was no truth to it. It's a shame that Big Momma would make a statement like this because to some degree it's almost slander. It seems she just bought into some of the anti-Elvis hype herself that had started going around back then that he supposedly was stealing from black artists. Even though Chuck Berry, Little Richard, James Brown and others have verified themselves this also was a lie. If anything they all pointed out EP always gave due credit, and not one of them were stolen from Elvis). But seems she decided to tell this story to make Elvis look bad since she had her other people claiming Elvis stole her song. Many other bluesman from that era, including BB King, have defended Elvis on this front. ** - Not to mention the fact that it wasn't actually Big Mama Thornton song - *. Hello. It's well-documented it was written by two white dudes, yet she like to claim she was the writer. Dozens of Blues and R&B artists covered that song after Big Mama Thornton. Elvis was just another one from that era that did a version. But not one of them that cover that song owed Big Momma any money since it was not her song to begin with. We have to be careful what we tend to *see and hear* still being passed around as truth considering there are still many people that tend to believe a lot of the misinformation going around regarding this topic. But a little quick research usually verifies the truth And it wasn't even in Elvis's nature to have refuse to perform with her since so many of the black artists from that era that knew Elvis personally. They have spoke about his very public, as well as private, respect and love for black folks & black artists at a time when many white folks did not. Considering he publicly praised and promoted black singers in his interviews throughout the years it's ludicrous to think he actually would disrespect Big Momma Thornton the way she tried to tell this story. Hell, she even admitted this herself in this interview here, mentioning the name of those two writers showing up at her recording session offering her the song. She couldn't even keep her own lie straight. Shame she lied ... but fact is .... she did. Truth is truth

You are off-base. You should listen to him before this concert. It's his style and if he is a drunk onstage here, he is not loaded and sloppy.
