BIG MANGROVE JACK ON LIGHT GEAR! - Gold Coast Seaway

WOW, what an epic fish!! I went out for a mid-week session with Ben Smith to try and land ourselves some Mahi Mahi or Dolphinfish, but when the weather turned bad we had to head back into the Gold Coast Seaway to drop down some livebaits. We were hoping for a Jewfish or Mulloway but this beast of a Mangrove Jack was a great surprise!

Nice jack Will. I was in the seaway Thursday as well. Great conditions shame about the fish. Got 1 bite on a live yakka and was a small bully. Hope this weather clears for you. Can't be much fun sitting in a caravan.

On the way back in from Mackerel fishing I thought I'd drop my last 2 livies down there, I didn't get anything big but saw 2 big Jacks caught within 3 minutes of eachother, then I ran out of bait 😂 good luck mate keen to hear how you go!

Great video !! what line and leader where you running here ? Ive just got myself a little seajay 30hp tinny and new to fishing. Any decent spots around GC for an introduction. Ive just been in tally creek so far got a few bream and small flattys . I watch all your content thanks

G'day mate thanks heaps for the comment and for watching all the videos, I'm glad you enjoy them!! In this video I had 20lb braid and a 40lb leader but usually for jacks I'd just run 20lb braid and 20lb fluorocarbon leader. I just had 40lb leader tied on from chasing Dolphinfish earlier that morning. It's good you've got a few Bream and Flathead so far, do you live on the southern Goldy? I fish mainly around the Broadwater at Southport. From Wavebreak Island and the banks to the South, that's where I usually fish and do well on whiting, bream, and the odd good flathead. On a calm day you could fish the North Wall of the Seaway around the tide change, drifting with livies on the bottom. Run out tides can be a bit dangerous there though, so make sure the weather is very calm if you try that. Up the canals around the pontoons, rock walls and bridges you will find bream and mangrove jack too. @@willkitching Hey mate i live at Robina hence attacking Tally Creek. It can get a bit shallow there with the Tinny so need to use the tides. @@fragrr6289 frãgrr Hey mate yeah the Broadwater is much easier to fish at any time of the tide, it's safe in there 👌 The KastKing didn't come as a combo when I got it, I got the reel first then the rod afterwards to match up to it. The Sharky III 4000 is perfect for fish like tailor and Trevally and things like that, but also bigger fish like Snapper and Mackerel. I recently caught a 98cm Threadfin Salmon on the rod, reel and 20lb braid. The good thing is it has the medium tip which is good for the Tailor and stuff and the medium-heavy tip which is good for the bigger fish. I am pretty sure the website is the best place to buy them. You can also message them on Instagram or Facebook and ask them any questions you have! 😁👌🎣 I hope this helps mate, I definitely recommend the KastKing gear though as a medium/heavier combo, it's really good !
