Things I have read that cause issues, A) not a hot enough iron, B) not enough oil in the batter, C) oil up your iron before each new addition of batter, even on no stick irons, but especially on old non-stick types, D) batter too thick or too thin, E) measuring when pouring batter into your iron. Measuring really helps from having lots of extra batter run out of your iron all over the side and making an awful mess. If a waffle ends up a little short in size, since you didn't quite use enough batter, that is better then having too much batter run all over the sides on the outsides of your iron, and counter or stove. Also watch your ingredients, chocolate chips in the batter can burn, put them on top of a finished waffle and let the heat of the waffle melt them. Fresh berries in the mix can mush up and create 'uncooked' spots around the fruit. Cook your fruit separately and add the cooked fruit to the top of a hot waffle. Also waffles that are cooked, freeze great and reheat nicely.

Please allow me to share some tips. It wasn't mentioned in the video but most waffle irons have an indicator light. This is the most important thing to pay attention to when making waffles. When the light is ON it means that the heating elements are on. When the waffle iron gets up to the proper temperature the light will go off. With that in mind here is what you need to know. Before adding batter the waffle iron needs to preheat. Plug it in and leave the lid CLOSED. The light will come ON which indicates that the heating elements are on. Wait until the light goes OFF. This indicates that the waffle iron is at the correct cooking temperature. Open the waffle iron, pour in the batter and close the lid. The light will come back ON. Now let the waffle cook until the light goes OFF. This should give you a properly cooked waffle. Once you have removed the first waffle close the lid and wait for the light to go off again before you add batter for another waffle. You may find it interesting to know that on most waffle irons (all of the old ones!) the "light" is not really a light at all. It's just a clear "window" and what you see is the back of the heating element inside when it comes on. Pretty cool huh? Some waffle irons have a lever or knob that will adjust the cooking temperature. If your waffles are undercooked or overcooked (when the light goes off) you can adjust the temperature accordingly. I have found that the small waffle irons that have become popular need more time to properly cook a waffle. If you are using one of those and it doesn't have a means of controlling the temperature (like mine) you may need to let it cook through 2 or 3 cycles of the light going on and off in order to get a properly cooked waffle. (Most of you will already know this but if the waffle is the same color as the batter it is not cooked! Waffles will brown as they cook. A lot of waffle cooking videos here on YT show drastically undercooked waffles!) One final thought. The video talked about "flipping" the waffle. Many waffle irons (most of the ones made for home use) do not have a means of "flipping". Don't let this concern you. There are heating elements on both sides and they will cook just fine. Don't do anything crazy like like turning your iron over if it is not made to be turned over!

Thank you so much for your detailed reply. I have a Rowenta Waffle Iron (German make which I bought in 1982 and i used to make waffles regularly. Especially Savoury ones. Thereafter, I did not use it until now. i.e. 17th December, 2023. I washed it and checked the heating element by plugging on. It was getting heated. I do not think I allowed to heat but the batter was stuck to the iron when we finally opened and could not get it out. When such a thing happens what is the solution.

I bought a new cast iron stovetop waffle iron and carefully seasoned it eight times before using it. Years later it never needed to be seasoned again. Lightly oil with a oil dampened paper towel while bringing up to temp. There is a learning curve but it's easy to master.

My experience when i made lot of waffle, the low part become less hot than the top, bc it always be the first part that release temperature due to batter. Since the sensor in bottom part it only measure the bottom part so the top part will be overheat and make your waffle burn on top and under cook on the bottom. How to fix it?

Been so long since I've had waffles. But between the processed grain and the maple syrup eating them would do to much damage to my diet.
