Big Model Trains Take Over The House For This Model Train Video

My house does not always have model trains all over the floor like this... but today it does! The trains get set up in to a big train layout like this for a few days at a time when I'm making model train videos.
In this new Jim Zim model train video you get a look at thousands of dollars worth of G-scale trains running on a layout throughout the inside of my house. Normally my wife prefers that I set up the trains outside, but she was going to be away for several hours... so it seemed like a good time to do an indoor layout for a change.
This video mainly focuses on a model of a BNSF freight train. It's one of my favorite model trains because I see the real thing running on the railroad tracks here in my town quite often. The model locomotive was made by MTH Trains, and most of the rail cars were made by LGB.
Also seen in the video is the Coca Cola steam train... running on a short loop through our bedroom. This train is a real collectors item! LGB hasn't made these in quite a few years and even if you wanted to buy one, they're just simply not for sale any longer.
An Amtrak passenger train made by MTH Trains is also seen in the video... running on a small loop around our living room.
Several other model trains from Piko and LGB are also on the layout, but don't get much screen time in this model train video.

It's so enjoyable playing with model trains. But nothing beats riding behind a real steam engine. I loved your Day Out With Thomas video very much. I hope you've been inspired to go out, and ride along a real railway more often. If you get the chance, try asking the Driver of a real steam engine if you can snatch a moment on the footplate. There's nothing more thrilling than spending a moment in the cab of a real steam engine, and asking questions, believe me.😂

I think you have achieved perfection in your model train videos. I love the the sublime cruising sections, with the variety of tracks and neighboring trains. And then the excitement of the track level views of speeding along and passing other trains. The surprise ending was great, but obviously not something repeatable.

I strongly believe that you should create a permanent garden railroad. You have lots of space available in your back yard and a garden railroad would be amazing! Just imagine trains running while snowing. Fantastic! Think about it. 🙂

I actually don't use a cleaning fluid at all... I just use a Scotch 7447 pad to clean off the tracks. It works very well.

This video focuses on the BNSF EMD SD70ACE AH diesel locomotive #9370 from MTH Electric Trains pulling two different BNSF boxcars, the ATSF boxcar, the B&O covered hopper freight car and the slightly different ATSF caboose at the end! Oh no! The GoPro camera is mounted on the left side of the slightly different ATSF caboose is about to hit the Amtrak passenger train lead by a General Electric Dash 8-40CW diesel locomotive #500 from MTH Electric Trains! OH! Ooh, I hate it when that happens all the time!

I actually had a pretty nasty crash (worthy of Gomez Addams, but without flames) at that crossover section of track in the hallway. Unfortunately, there were no cameras rolling at the time. The little incident that you did end up seeing towards the end of the video was done on purpose. I noticed that the trains on that section of track were VERY close to each other... so I placed the GoPro on the side of that one train and timed it so the two trains would meet up on that one section where the tracks are so close to each other. I knew it would knock the camera off, which it did, and I thought that would be a fun surprise ending for the video.

By the time you paid for shipping costs, it really wouldn't make any sense to buy a train set that way. You should look in big-box retailers near you after mid-November, as they may have some inexpensive model train sets for Christmas. Also, try eBay, but use the "near me" feature in the search function to find people in the Phillippines that have model train stuff for sale.

Hi, my 7yo steam train enthusiast is a big fan of yours. Have you ever considered requesting your train videos to be on KZbin kids?

Some of my model train videos (the ones that feature Thomas & Friends) are designated as being "for kids" in their settings... therefore, the way I understand it, those videos should be viewable on KZbin Kids. All of my other videos (other than the Thomas & Friends videos) have not been designated as "for kids" and therefore can not be viewed on KZbin kids. Have you ever done a search on KZbin kids for "Jim Zim trains"? Theoretically, you should be able to find all my Thomas & Friends model train videos that way. The reason that I don't designate all my model trains videos as being "for kids" is that KZbin doesn't pay video creators anywhere near as much for a video for kids as they do a regular video. Also, according to the viewership statistics that KZbin provides to me, the majority of the people who view my model train videos are not kids. But it's really all about the ad revenue. If KZbin actually paid more for kids videos than they do for regular videos, I'd designate every one of my model train videos as being "for kids". But given their current policies, KZbin discourages creators like me from making videos for kids by paying creators significantly less for them.

Actually, no. Married for over 40 years. She is not thrilled with having the trains running through the house like that, but it's only for a few days. It took me a day to set everything up, a day to shoot and edit the video, and then about a half day to put it all away. That's the deal I had to make to get her to go along with it. Also, notice that the tracks don't go through the kitchen cooking area, and they don't go through my wife's craft room, which is just beyond the kitchen.
