I really enjoy your comic book related investment videos ! I’ve been an investor/collector for 30+ years and find your opinion very refreshing! I don’t agree with everything but appreciate your perspective !

There are currently only some 9.9 key books graded in the bronze age by CGC, but they have opened up the floodgates after they gave the GSXM 1 an unwarranted 9.9. You’ll be seeing a lot more 9.9 grades in bronze and beyond for their dealer & auction house buddies now that CGC has decided to start issuing them.

Neal Adams run on Batman was my favorite series to collect. I still think about my full comic run that I gave away 15 years ago. All I have left is a photo of my completed Batman 227 foreign comic collation to look at. 😢

Great video. I am also a Neal Adams fan and have been picking up some of his Batman keys. Detective Comics 405 in a 9.6 with WP, Batman 227 in both a 7.0 white pages and a 9.2 OW-W, Batman 232 in a 9.2 with WP, Batman 251 in a 9.2 with WP. The prices just seem right for all of those, although 227 has really jumped.

To be honest people were not hoarding Hulk 181 for many years after it was published. He was a one shot one-time character for the first 3 years. And he really didn't take off in popularity for the first 10 years. That issue wasn't even broken out in the Overstreet price guide for many years. Unlike asm 300 which was hoarded upon publication. But yes starting in the 1980s people really started hoarding back issues of 181

It's a shame that Dr Strange didn't appear on the cover until Strange Tales 121 and still it was only on a small portion. That deficiency made a great difference between the collector value of TOS#39 vs ST#110.

Alts & Ends had a decent write up. High sales, but median prices on some of these is still down from a year ago. Glad the overall temperature has cooled slightly. The 576K restored Action Comics 1 was apparently a record for any restored book, too!

Watch Automatic Comics recent video where he compares pricing on comparable CGC and CBCS books. It is stunning how much of a hit, in general, CBCS books take when they are sold. Unless you are confident in your grading ability and can crack out a CBCS book and get a similar CGC grade, I wouldn’t spend any money on a CBCS slab.

Great video. Really wish I would've held onto my HOS #92 (CGC 9.2) haha. Not sure how much truth there is to it, but I heard that somewhere along the line CGC loosened up on their whiteness scale a bit. Make sense in my experience as I resubmitted about 15 books (that were originally in 1st generation holders), and 90% came back with BETTER page quality.

When it comes to ASM 300, people should always keep in mind when considering a purchase that it's the most submitted book to CGC. There isn't a single other comic book issue out there that has more slabs than this one. It even beats out Spawn 1.

It's unfortunate that CBCS slabs don't go for roughly the same amount of money as CGC. Especially since the slabs are better and now look better too. I was hoping to send a Daredevil 1 to CBCS but just to play it a little safer I might have to send it to CGC :/ Also, love Neal Adams superman. I have a high grade Superman #243 that I'm gonna send to CBCS. That one I feel more comfortable sending in to CBCS. ✌️

The lone 9.9 holder of an Incredible Hulk #181 should be very worried. With CGC announcing they are considering a 9.8 prescreen to see if a 9.9 is possible, I predict many more 9.9 Incredible Hulk #181 will emerge based on the high volume of 9.8s that currently exist. Thus, that 9.9 is going to take a value hit.

House of Secrets #92 is an example of a perfect comic book - first appearance of a major character, classic cover, great artwork/story in the inside, and beloved by the comic book collecting community. Now, I don't think I'd ever spend 50K on a comic book, but if I had the means, I'd pay the sold price for that 9.8 HoS #92 over that Hulk #181 any day of the week. Strange Tales #110 suffers from Dr. Strange not appearing on the cover. If he had appeared on the cover prominently, I'm sure that book would be more expensive. That being said, I was never too fond of the cover of Tales of Suspense #39.

That owner must’ve known something for that HOS 92 9.8 to leave it as cbcs. Why else would they risk losing $30,000+ value if they were able to get a CGC 9.8? The book was a beautiful book, but to lose that kind of money and leave it to cbcs makes you wonder.

ST110 will always be haunted because Doc doesn’t appear on the cover. Same with ToS 27 (no Antman). 1st App Characters not on the cover kill values.

You forgot to mention that most 30's to 40's comics went for paper drives for the war effort......besides lives....the war claimed many comic books. I imagine baseball cards too. All the more reason, these will prove to be a decent investment I think, over time.

Heritage buyers are notorious for not liking any book that doesn’t have white pages. Much more so than any of the other auctions by the other auction houses.

Great video but here’s the thing, the job market is down in white collar/tech jobs. The unemployment is boosted by an increase in jobs in manufacturing, which the Biden administration buried under the lead. Reality is this job market is horrid for the actual collector base

Buddy, nobody on this planet thinks ASM 300 or Hulk 181 is rare. No clue why you would even put that notion out 😂. With that being said, yes there’s many thousands graded of both, but as you mentioned there’s considerably more demand. So in essence we as a consumer base make them rare. Roughly 15K CGC graded, maybe several thousand cbcs and PGX, and thousands more raw. There’s likely over a hundred thousand collectors or more who want Hulk 181. So if it raises in price it’s justified.
@ReservedInvestments

Buddy, if you read the comments to any other video I did on comic books, you’ll see collectors do (incorrectly) consider books like Hulk 181 and ASM 300 to be ‘rare.’ I deal with these people each and every day. Just visit any online collecting forum or FB group. 😂😉

Honestly, if you are getting a lot of emails from people not understanding the valuation differences between collectibles and valued income earning assets, you are dealing with either kids or idiots.......yes, I call it as I see it. I do appreciate that perhaps these folks conveniently serve as the genesis for video content but at a certain point you are catering to the lowest common denominator. ;-) Of course, without those folks, there would be no room left for "smart" investors. 😅

Have you watched any reaction video to my content on KZbin by chance? My critics all start with the same thing...'Reserved Investments just doesn't understand (insert favorite collecting market here).' How do you think I was able to build a sizeable net worth operating in these markets over the years? The timmies actually think they are smarter than the experts. I personally love it...
