5 years ago I watched this video for the first time and it inspired me to do a ski season when I finished uni. Well it’s 5 years later and I have moved to Whistler. Watching this now as tomorrow the mountain opens and I can finally live a dream 5 years in the making. I can’t wait to try the nachos at Merlins. Thanks Robbie I wouldn’t be here without you and this video (I mean literally here in Whistler, I wouldn’t have killed myself ; christ, you’re not that important)

29:37 during my time in whistler in 2010 when I had not long arrived there was a French guy in my hostel room talking about 7th heaven and saying once you get up there it is like heaven, I thought he was exaggerating but when I finally got up there I fully understood what he meant. Robbie, not sure if you’ll see this but wanted to pop you a note. I grew up watching you on Soccer AM and I’ve very fond memories. I just stumbled upon your channel this evening while relaxing after work (and playing some FM) and watched a few videos. Then I saw your Vancouver blog and loved all of it. I moved to vancouver years ago and have lived in multiple places but experienced a little squeal of delight as you walked past my old apartment on Haro street. I now live at the bottom of Davie street (a block from the beach) and just bought the whole family season passes to Seymour for this year to get my five and nine year old ski ready so we can go to Whistler and get pissed like and your mates. Great stuff and keep it up. Really happy I stumbled on this.

I think we're exactly the same age. I grew up in Vancouver and spent 2 years in London (94-96) before uni, so it was an odd mirror-experience watching this and knowing all your feelings and memories of that time in your life are tied up in the place I grew up, where all of mine are tied up in the UK. Anyway, nice. I miss the UK. Everyone was always shocked when I told them I was from Vancouver and I moved there. Most common reaction: "WHY?!" But the appeals of the place are very different and the cultural differences in that Goldilocks zone of 'just right' - foreign, but not so foreign you feel like an alien.

How much is it to bring your skis on a plane vs renting for a week¿
@RobbieKnox
@RobbieKnox 4 жыл бұрын
Depends on the airline. On Air Canada it was free but this year British airways charged for a piece of baggage so £65 each way. But I’ll generally pay it as I want to ski on my own skis that I know and love. You just need to factor it in when choosing airlines.
