Omega's sponsorship of the Olympics is actually productive. The athletes wear them during competition and they provide all the timing tech, a real partnership. Rolex just slaps (F1, Tennis, Golf) there name everywhere and puts the watches on people before they stand in front of a camera.

Very true! Omega has been part of the Olympics timing since I was a child if I recall, and I'm an old fart. Love my Seasmasters. From my father's wedding Seasmaster of 1962, to my Ti-Rose Gold Seamaster Chronograph with Valjoux movement.

The Omega is the more interesting one to me, it doesn't feel generic, overly-faked and copied, a more unique watch that fits the modern aesthetics that I personally enjoy. This is not to mention the mechanical superiority of the Omega. The mesh bracelet is interesting but it doesn't best the more classic link bracelet. What Rolex does better is the size and proportionality, but not enough of a trumpcard in my humble opinion.

Omega has a clumsy, Invicta type style and will never match Rolexes timeless and Iconic design. The Submariner, Datejust, GMT, Daytona, Daydate and Explorer models are all Iconic designs, recognizable the world over. OMEGA IS NOT EVEB AS RECOGNIZED AS CARTIER. No one would bother to clone an Omega.

@@victorhenimann5291 you're absolutely wrong. Omega makes the most accurate movement. Everything is +. Their recent MC movement has an accuracy of 0 to +2. It doesn't lose time. It's co-axial , it's 🧲 , overall superior finish what else do you expect blender & washing machine qualities ? & Oh, Rolex never made their movements to dials. It's just a fashion brand with disgusting manipulation,credit stealing. Rolex movements were made by "Jean Aegler". 400$ San Martin absolutely crush Rolex interms of fit & overall finish, details ( TRUTH). Buying your supplier doesn't make you a watchmaker. No, I don’t actually want a Rolex. Seriously, don’t assume. I can afford and get a Sub, but I don’t see it as a superior watch to the Seamaster. In fact I find it inferior because spending that kind of money and not being able to able to see a beautifully decorated movement is a non starter. We don’t buy watches to tell time. A Casio can do that with less fuss and the computer in your pocket will always be more accurate since it gets its time from atomic clocks on the network. No we get mechanical watches because they are beautiful little mechanical worlds of amazing engineering and craftsmanship. And not being able to see into that world defeats the purpose. Plus the Seamaster is simply better looking, but that’s subjective of course. Between a Sub or a Seamaster plus a $3000 Longines for the same total price tag, I’ll take the latter any time.

It’s funny, I too find that the Rolex Submariner design is bland and I much prefer the Omega Seamaster design which I see as nicer and more sophisticated. Now, these considerations are highly subjective and not really debatable as tastes are personal.

I think the big hurdle for Omega as a brand is the unfortunate aura of anti-Rolex bitterness that tends to come from buyers and enthusiasts on platforms like Reddit or other forums. That’s the one thing that really turns me off about the brand and makes me reach for my Santos or Tank over my Seamaster. Cartier has found a way of taking some portion of the market (me at least) from Rolex and positions itself to be completely separate from all the brand loyalty nonsense. You see it a lot when walking into the boutiques either wearing or speaking favorably about Rolex or other brands. Omega boutique staff will snarl in disgust at the mere mention of a Rolex GMT and quickly push you look at some massive 44mm wide and 17mm thick PO acting like it’s the obviously better choice. Cartier staff will ask me details about my collection and recommend complementary pieces that actually match my “needs”. If Omega (buyers) can get past the “What kind of idiot would buy a ROLEX?!?!” mentality, the brand will become a force to be reckoned with.

Many of us do NOT want a Rolex. I have many watches - none of them are a Rolex, and no future watch ever will be a Rolex. My GO SeaQ is way more interesting than any sub. As one AD I use (who also sells Rolex) said to me last year: “you go the gym, and half the guys are wearing a Rolex”. Exactly. So if you want to be part of the crowd - indistinguishable from the rest - wear a Rolex . But if you want to take the road less traveled - which is far more interesting - wear anything but Rolex. I’m in that camp. That’s not to diss those who like them. I get it. But please don’t assume that Rolex is the watch we all aspire to. It absolutely is not.

Can’t believe people are still comparing Omega to Rolex. They’ve been so high above Rolex for the past three decades, it’s pathetic to see how lacking Rolex R&D is. @PocketUau Rolex doesn't have to introduce the flavor of the week models or collaborate with swatch in a flailing attempt to stay relevant. Nor did Rolex have to put out the quarts trash, that Omega has put out in the past. When you are the Iconic standard that all luxury watches are compared to, you don't have to play Omega's games. The only thing that's high is you.
@patrickjean-philippe7679
@patrickjean-philippe7679 Ай бұрын
Hum… Rolex did not really lag behind Omega in terms of R&D as they studied, developed and released their Chronergy movement in 2015. It’s an optimised lever escapement movement associated with many optimised parts meant to reduce friction, increase performance stability and power reserve. So even if this has issues in amplitude and timekeeping stability _ no idea if these were resolved for the long term _ we cannot deny that Rolex is significantly active in R&D. In fact they often conduct R&D within a Joint Industry Project _ JIP _ together with the Swatch Group and Patek Philippe. So Rolex is not really pathetic, only that they don’t market their R&D derived upgrades with much fanfare as Omega does. Both Omega & Rolex are actively conducting R&D…

I have a significant watch collection and I own many pieces from Omega. I have never bought an Omega because I couldn’t get a Rolex model. Many in my family and social circle asked me for advice and more often than not I recommend Omega depending on use/purpose. My Omega AD knows that I own many pieces 0f there’s but because I have purchased from different AD’s and boutiques my “spend” at any one retailer isn’t high enough for certain pieces. In the end I have found a way to source what I want but this is the sort of thing that turns people off from Rolex and Omega. It’s a shame Omega is following Rolexs’ lead. I have known several people who only have one piece from a maison but have been allocated a piece almost immediately when I either couldn’t get one or was on a “list”. It’s a bit silly to treat customers this way and I know quite a few that won’t support a particular brand as a result.

I have a few Omega's and I do love the brand, but they need to dial back (pun intended) their collection. Omega is overdoing it with their speciality watches and collaborations. Who is actually going to spend 9k on a Gold Olympic special edition SMP. For that kind of cash or a few thousand more just get a Sub. The brand is focusing too much on these limited editions and consumers are losing interest in the brand as a whole. Outside of the new white dial Speedy the other new versions of the Speedmaster are just pointless as the average joe will never be spending 18-40k on a Speedy. Rolex is just in a different league. You just made a point that blew my mind, I hadn’t considered how much watch purchase money I’d generated on top of what I’ve spent, people in my circle would and have come to me prior to spending a lot on a watch, all together, over the years way more than I’ve ever thought about… until now. I’d wager most watch geeks here would say the same thing after some thought.

Not sure if I see Omega as Rolex backup. I have 4 Omegas, I guess I could have gotten 2 Rolex instead. Honestly, I find Rolex to be a marketing scheme similar to diamonds, maybe not to the same degree. With Rolex you pay quite a mark up for the name rather than what the watch actually is. To me that’s like buying a more expensive car because of the name rather than its actual performance. To me, I don’t want to wear a watch that says, look how important marketing aspect is to me.

I really wanted a Rolex and did all I could to attain it.. Alas to no success. On a random trip to the watch store, I was again let down but offered a Tudor Pelagos Titanium 41 Diver. I bought it and my Rolex thirst just dried out. Love my watch, had for 15 months and it’s not a scratch magnet. Wasn’t expecting it to grow on me as much as it has either..

The biggest issue with the mesh bracelet is that it doesn’t feel balanced against the watch case. In terms of weight, it is just not substantial enough. I wanted to love it, but when I tried it on, it was disproportional.

The bracelet which appears to be the cruncher here is made by Staib in Germany and can be purchased on its own for between 140 to 200 euros depending on thickness. I bought one and put it on a Longines big eye after seeing it reviewed on YT. Obviously the one I have does not have the omega sign on it but its the same other than that.

Head = OMEGA Heart = ROLEX I love OMEGA and I have a slew of their watches but I’m still aspiring to get my 1st ROLEX. There’s just something about the Rolex brand equity that is unmatched…. Luxury watches are never about the sum of their parts or how well they “work”. No one really cares how deep or how accurate or how long the warranty lasts …It’s more about that fleeting relationship with an artisanal object that almost no one but us watch zealots can understand.

My deal breaker has been the stupid 25200 bph movements. Omega can say whatever they want, but it boils down to they did it because (they think) the average watch buyer won’t notice or care. If you say it’s not a deal breaker for you, that’s fine. But don’t try to justify them dumbing down the movement from 8 beats to 7 beats per second.

For me Rolex never really had this strong appeal. I'm sure they are very good quality but the design should also strike me and it doesn't. Omegas watches always had a much stronger appeal to me back then in 2008 and that hasn't changed in general. So I didn't buy an Omega because I couldn't get a Rolex. All this waitlist nonsense with the silly games you have to play wasn't a thing in 2008. When I picked up a watch from service that I bought 15 years ago the sales guy asked me if I were interested in siigning up toi the waitlist for a Rolex Sub. But I turned that "offer" down because its design still doesn't appeal to me. So again, not everyone wants to have a Rolex, even if the die hard Rolex fans like to believe that.

@@lonewolfemcquade8133 😂😂😂😂 OMG you are still posting stupid comments like you were before. Tell me how exactly then is the Sub iconic outside of the watch world? I seriously doubt you even know what iconic means. Let me enlighten you, it’s an adjective relating to or characteristic of a famous person or thing that represents something of importance. So whereas the Sub’s claim to fame of being the first watch waterproof up to 100m, the first Seamaster was out of necessity and the first launched in 1948; based on designs of a watch Omega made for airmen in the Second World War. Now let’s see, which is more important; a watch somebody can wear when diving or one a soldier can rely on in combat when fighting for his country? It has also lasted longer than any other watch in the history of cinema , through the Bond franchise, and Omega still remains the most trusted timekeeper in the world of sport through the Olympics after nearly 100 years. So that’s both the world of sport and cinema where it remains an icon, which just proves that the original post of the Sub being iconic outside of the watch world and the Seamaster isn’t, is utter bullshit. You people are hilarious though. You haven’t got a bloody clue what you’re on about. The Sub is a great mass produced watch which deserves its place as an icon. But it’s a long watch from being the only one and anyone who actually knows what the word iconic actually means, recognises the Seamaster is equally worthy of such a title. Go ask Christopher Nolan how many people he spoke to before making Dunkirk who swore by their Omega watches, or why Lindy Hemming kitted the character of James Bond out with a Seamaster in Goldeneye. I could tell you why she did it and it has jackshit to do with being a “watch enthusiast”. I’m so glad Xmas is just a few months away. Santa might actually leave you a brain in your stocking this year. 🤦🏻
