BIG NEWS: The end of my career as a wildlife biologist and why I am switching careers!

Nice cameras and multiple binoculars and scopes. And vacations. And the flexibility to live where you want and maybe work 100% remote.

I made this video a couple years ago before I started law school. Now I am 2 years in. I am actually not going to switch out of environmental conservation, it is just that I am not working as a biologist doing environmental consulting anymore. Now I am on track to do environmental international law. And now I have a personal training business that teaches people how to get in shape while also living in a more environmentally sustainable lifestyle. So in reality I didn't leave conservation 😌

@EcoFit.Training oh awesome, sounds like a great career! I think the part where you said you can still go out and be a biologist in your own way without having it as your main source of income spoke to me. I've been trying to think of what ways to have a bigger impact with my time and energy. Law is certainly a place to be to make that happen.

I recently got a job as a field biologist monitoring water quality. It’s a fairly routine job every month with a few fun projects every once in a while. Right now I do most of the grunt work and I really enjoy it. I know that the job will not always be great and some days it will just feel like work. I’m just looking for a hobby or two that I can look forward to outside of work that I can pour into.

You share some good thoughts here. I’m the same age as you and have been working seasonal birding jobs (hawk watching) for about 5 years. You’re right about it being hard to climb the ladder without shifting from field jobs to office jobs. I won’t be going to law school but it’s time for me to start thinking about what the next path is for me.
