After nailing one of my biggest boars to date on last week’s episode. I roll the swag out for the night, within 10 mins from camp one of the oldest toothest warriors I’ve seen walks straight out in front of me.
Then I give a quick gear rundown for those who have been asking.

Great hog mate! Dr Ed Ashby did a great study on arrow lethality and his conclusion was a heavy FOC (forward of centre) arrow with a 2 blade, single bevel with a 3:1 ratio (3 times longer than width (like Outback Supremes)) with a tanto tip, was the best arrow/broadhead combo for large game (tested on dead African game). His conclusion was a 3 blade had by far the worst penetration in his data, due to them jamming in bone (interestingly, he found 4 blade had better penno than 3 blade! but only just, both were bad...) while a 2 blade (single bevel particularly) would split bone and provide far more pass throughs. Mechanical heads were shit and failed more often than not. I've been bowhunting for over 30 years now and only ever shoot 2 blade. Anyway mate, I'm loving your videos and can't wait to get back to Oz next month and back in the bush. Keep up the great work, mate!

Thanks mate. Yeah I’m definitely a fan of the single bevel 2 blade by far the best in my opinion. I’ve used 3 blades a lot but I’ve had a few bad runs with deflection on tight quartering shots and same with the jaming up in the bone. And I won’t touch mechanical, junk in my opinion.

Great work on the pig mate, sometimes they come hard sometimes easy either way ya gotta be there to get it, Liked the gear review, i started with a wrist strap release , liked the simplicity of it, about a year or so ago started useing a thumb release,, Scott Sigma, to get more accurate at distance and slow things up a little, took me awhile to like it and friends just kept telling me to be persistant and will feel better the more i use it, had to learn how to hook it onto the D-loop which was a pain, now after a year or so i wouldnt go back to the wrist release unless i had no choice,, cheers

Good grief, what a fantastic boar. Sweet! Seriously, that was a mighty fine shot at 40. I figured you were using a fairly heavy arrow as you get so many pass thru hits. Glad you found a release that works for you so well. I’ve been wondering what your set up was. Thanks for the review. I went to a Carter Wise Choice 4-5 year’s ago from a Carter Quickie plus wrist strap trigger. After like 10 years I started punching the trigger too often, but only at targets past about 40 yards for some stupid reason lol. Anyway, this thumb is set a little hard so Ihave to pull solid just like with a hinge. Just a good solid pull steadies up everything,as you know. Another great video.👍👍🐗🐗🐗

G,day brother hope you are well. I thoroughly enjoy all of your videos and look forward to each new one. I noticed that you dont use a rangefinder when hunting pigs where as other bow hunters on youtube do. So are you getting as close as you can and judging the distance to target without adjusting your site? I have stopped using guns to hunt and will be buying a bow soon after I get some tuition on how to use one. Your videos spur me on to want to hunt like you do simple but very effective. Plus lots of fun in the great australian outdoors. Please take care. Regards Noel.

I try not to use one mate. I generally can pic the distance pretty well from 30 and under as that’s what I practice a lot of the time. It’s a bad habbit to get into when in close range IMO. I hunted with a mate not long ago had a billy around the 40 inch mark at 20 and he was trying to get a range. Ended spotting him and bolted. That movement he made could of just been him drawing his bow back and goat would of been down.
