@cheaddos Жыл бұрын
I had to return my RP3+ due to high import tax at the customs. They (DHL) took 82 dollars for shipping. 32+50 for remote shipping. My local DHL returned the products (I had the main unit, case and grips) free of charge to Hong Kong as the representative told me. However, as I understand it, the Chinese DHL who will be returning the product to mainland China is charging about the same as my order total. For this reason Retroid support told me there would be no refund. DHL didn't even refund my +50 dollars remote shipping fee even though it was returned from the customs office. It didn't reach my city. So, I spent about 250 dollars without getting anything. I'm to blame here too because I didn't know the customs law in my country but neither Retroid nor DHL warned me about these beforehand. They were happy to process the order and DHL was happy to take the remote shipping cost as well. The import tax was about 2 times what my order cost because it exceeded 150 euros which was the threshold for packages to be required to pay the import tax. This one I learned via DHL after the package arrived to customs. I was very happy that I was getting this but now it pains me to see anything related to this company. Great video as always. Just wanted to share for people who are looking to order from Retroid, so no one falls into a similar situation with them or DHL.

Respect to Retroid after being a bane of the emulator community for a period of time, being the epitome of micro-releases of handhelds, for actually continuing support of that product and even improving it.
@misterkeebler Жыл бұрын
Maybe you are talking about like early 2021 and prior, but Retroid's newest product the Retroid Flip is their 4th device in about 18 months. During that same time period, Anbernic had at least 9 different devices just off the top of my head with roughly half of them using the same chipset, and thats with me sort of cheating and counting the 353v and 353vs as just one device. I think Powkiddy has had around the same amount as Retroid, but they have all been ranging from mediocre to poor, so it's easy to lose track of where they are at. Retroid's biggest screw up in the past year and closest thing to a "micro release" was releasing the 3+ so soon after the 3, and despite that power difference the original rp3 is still better than the majority of both anbernic and powkiddy products. I dont know what people would be comparing retroid to if it was considered the bane of the community.
@RueLangston Жыл бұрын
@@misterkeeblerI think people are sort of exaggerating how bad Retroid is, but I also get where they're coming from. The 3+ did released very soon after the 3, the Flip is essentially a different version of the 3+, and they recently remade the 2+ with the 2S. Anbernic obviously has been way worse with that though, especially since most of the praise people give the 405M is due to GammaOS which was created by the community
@carlos2004 Жыл бұрын
wow, i'm damn impressed. i totally expected to be one of those updates that gives a bit more performance but ends up not making a real difference and ends up feeling underwhelming. but boy, was i wrong. this update just took my rp3+ from "maybe disgaea, but don't bother with anything else on GC/PS2" to "tweak a few games, but GC/PS2 mostly work". tried about 5 games on each (ps2/gc) and they all had major improvement for me. some games that were just on the verge of being playable now run stable and even at higher resolutions, while the ones that were a joke to run on it, now actually feel playable, and my biggest surprise was Twisted Metal Black, which now runs at full framerate 😮 hell, even my steamdeck needed "smt off" to run that one at normal framerates, yet the rp3+ is now running it just fine. hats off to the retroid team.

Another thing that is playable after the update and along with the official Dolphin app is Super Mario Galaxy. It used to run like garbage because you had to turn off a hack called "Skip EFB Access". When the hack was checked on, the game ran good but then it broke the use of the wiimote IR, which essentially breaks gameplay. Now you can leave the hack turned off, get use of the IR and get a good 45-50FPS with dips here and there. Nothing that ruins the game in my opinion. Yes, a steady 60 fps would be a lot better but the fact that we can play this game on the 3+ is a huge win.

I'm in the same boat. Somehow just feels off to have this device. Not sure why.

Anything that's not PS2 and GC works beautifully on this thing. It's in my opinion, the best "retro" handheld on the market right now.
@Naranek Жыл бұрын
A great comparison, thank you. I've just picked up my Anbernic RG505, as this was the only device available here. Do you think that they manage to get such a bump for this device too? I'm a little bit disappointed with the performance of the device when trying Gamecube or let alone even Wii games.

Please Retroid I WILL BE SOO HAPPY, YOU COULD CHANGE THIS MAN'S LIFE. Thx 😊

Great video! I love how in depth you go in all of your content. How does the performance for the RP3+ compare to the KTR1 with the update?

With all the options around at the moment, how does the AYN Odin pro compare? When it came out it was top of the hill, but is it still worth it today?

Any impact on heat/battery life? Not interested in ps2/gc/wii on this device, but hoping it will smooth out some occassional drops for psp or saturn etc, or allow the games to run at higher resolution.

Does this apply to the retroid flip as well? They have the same chipset right

Thinking of getting one of these for mostly 4:3 games, mainly looking to replace an aging Vita. I wanna be able to move saves between my handheld and my real consoles with flashcarts

Interesting video. You didn't show 3DS - AFAIK, you considered RP3+ as not suitable? But it would be nice to know if this update affected Citra
@RetroGameCorps Жыл бұрын
It improves performance with Citra and Skyline too. I ran out of time testing, it actually took about 12 hours to set up the footage you saw in this video, so I decided to limit my showcase to these systems.

The thing that really helps citra is the vulkan update which I hope they get out of beta soon

@retro game corps mmm strange - I can't get the update for some reason, refresh and says up-to-date on previous version. Any ideas?

same issue. do you have google play service enabled ? edit: I've seen on their discord and apparently they took the OTA server down. No idea when it's coming back. Apparently some firmware had issues.

So I noticed in your videos that you have a higher version of the updated than me and I haven't received this update yet. With this be a factor in not receiving the update?

Hello, if you could be so kind to explain, if you know, how we can put rotatory wallpapers for the home screen and lock screen it would be awesome. I could not get this to work... The only app that I found that does this, it does correctly from one or the other (home screen or lock) as one will be in land scape and the other one in portrait with the wallpaper resized.

Thank you for this video. I was considering a RP3+ because it feels like the best value for the money out of all the Android handhelds, but a lot of stuff seemed just a bit below full speed. This update seems to have fixed a lot of that.

What do you think the first handheld to support PS2 with full framerates will be?
@bulletpunch9317 Жыл бұрын
Steamdeck
@rettenthetetlen8759 Жыл бұрын
Don't think so
@Guckkasten85 Жыл бұрын
@@bulletpunch9317 Although Steamdeck is called a Handheld I would not really consider it to be a device I would bring with me every day. Even the Switch is too big for daily use for me. Right now I am happy with my RG353P which has perfect size and perfect comfort. Could need a better chip, 4 inch screen and higher resolution. So I think one or 2 more generations left for PS2 and Gamecube Wii stuff.
@bulletpunch9317 Жыл бұрын
@@Guckkasten85 probably whatever comes with rk3588 or unisoc t820 since those are what these companies all prefer.

While this hasnt improved my perception of the RP3+, its still ALMOST gen 6, this does shatter my perception of the RG405M, which apparently horrifically underutilizes its chip.

I have a question in light of this update if you don’t mind me inquiring Russ. I have on opportunity to get the Logitech g cloud for a close cost to the pocket 3+. For pure EMULATION purposes which is actually the more capable in terms of newer systems (GC, ps2, etc)? Thank you in advance
@Sottiaux2077 Жыл бұрын
Not him, but the G cloud is a faster system. It benches far higher, and while that’s not conclusive, it runs GC and PS2 and higher resolutions. The downside to the G cloud is it’s 32gb of storage. It’s got an sd card reader though. Check some benchmarks on youtube for the games you’d like to play. One thing to note however, is the G cloud is bigger than a switch. For that reason alone, I’m picking the 3+ up.
