I'm kind of done with playboosters boxes. Maybe we'll draft bloomburrow in a couple of months, when the price of a box is down to around 100 bucks. Like, we're drafting occasionally now and there's tons of cheaper options. Instead of paying 130€ for a the latest playbooster box, you can get a whole lot of older sets for 80-100 bucks. Maybe Brother's War or Inistrad isn't as hype anymore but they also cost like 60% of what a playbooster box costs at launch and you'll still draw some awesome cards from them And if you're not drafting but just cracking for excitement. You can still get a Commander Legends box for around 140€. That's 10 bucks more than any new play booster box but you can still open Jeweled Lotus, Mana Drain, Vampiric Tutor and a ton of other cards. So even though I'm SUPER excited for bloomburrow, I simply got the commander deckset preordered (so... still a fomo-victim) but I'll just buy singles from the main set because I'm sure most of it will be super cheap within the month. I mean look at all the GAS from MH3 and all these cards are so incredibly undercosted in relation to their power. Even the commons and uncommons in MH3 slap harder than some rares/mythics in other sets.

They did us dirty by including the "imagine: critters" only in collector boosters tbh. Don't see why those couldnt have been in 1/8 or so play boosters. That is what breaks the opening exerpience here. The play boosters for this set feel so comparatively devoid of bling to the point I am considering cancelling my play booster orders. The opening experience looks quite tame compared to collector and - at least in this case - compared to what set boosters used to be. Low number of rares or mythics, missing out on a lot of the cool art/variants that makes this set which is abundant in collectors and the 1.5% SPG ("list") odds don't save the play packs. Still really looking forward to prerelease though, for that the sealed experience trumsp the opening experience.

If they put critters in play boxes they'd have to balance them for draft, which may result in some getting cut. You can get a lot of the treatments in play boosters, just not anime raised foil, extended art, and Imagine: Courageous Critters. The list being gone definitely hurts.

@@RipAndShip Yeah, you're right. Need to balance around draft/sealed. Then again, any list like addition affects those formats negatively. The problem that comes from merging draft and set boosters sadly. As for the variants, the CBs are popping with them and they're what makes the set for me. Seems like play boosters are the way to go for people that just want stuff from the main set though.

Outlaws was probably an outlier due to two bonus sheets while Bloomburrow has none (for the play boosters at least)

@@RipAndShip I don't think it matters too much since the prices always balance out in the long run. It is pretty lame that the imagine critters cards are collector exclusive though. I always like when there is a chance (even if it's very small) to hit a big jackpot even in a play booster.

... so basically we're back on kind of traditional Draft packs for the price of Playboosters now. I might buy at $100 max then.

Definitely more rares than a draft box, but not like the amount that were in a set box.

23% of packs have 2 rares 1% of packs have 3 rares. This is what we are paying inflated prices for???? I'm done with Hasbro and WOTC they can keep mtg.

OTJ had higher rare and mythic pull rates because they jammed in the Big Score into the set as well. Also, you were able to get full art/extended cards in the MH3 play boosters; wish they continued that trend here.

Watched the Collector opening before ... i have to say, that the two opening experiences killed Bloomburrow for me. I keep my Displays sealed and stick with singles again.

from my perspective, there is really no incentive anymore to spend so much money on boxes anymore, i have never paid for collectors as i believe that those are money sink and not worth it for someone who is not looking to resale cards, so ill keep to single buying and save my self some money and hassle :/

more and more expensive boxes, more and more useless cards, more and more reprints of cards that make older sets worthless and kill the point of collecting mtg, signing up for new sets when you can't play the newly released set yet, this game will collapse very quickly if they don't stop print cards at such a rate - 9/10 boxes purchased have at most 60-75% of the purchase value - just look at the unboxings with prices

They are better than draft packs still. Set and play never had extended art, but these do have special guest borderless, borderless ral Planeswalker, field notes borderless.

I really have joined Magic at a weird time, about two years ago right after they released Battle for Baldurs Gate. There have been some really great sets, but man, their business model has been pretty scummy. I feel like they're heavily relying on us staying addicted, but eventually they are going to burn people out with higher prices and less value.

@@Powerslide15 People are worried, but magic is more popular than ever before. when I talk to people at the game store, they're excited about magic but when I look at online magic discourse it is mostly negative. A lot of it has to do with who you choose to interact with.

I got 1 pack, in my pre-release box with 1 foil rare, 1 regular Rare, and 1- Mythic Rare in it. All 3 had a Holo foil oval at the bottom center of the card. Does anyone know what those symbols mean?

It's a security measure for rares/mythics to help avoid counterfeits

Feel like the overall value of pulls will be very low when you have on average around 40 rare or better per box. when there are tons of nonvalue rares. Is this MKM all over again?

I think it's probably around 44, but the rates are definitely lower.

The list is solely special guests. There is no list anymore.

Thanks for explaining what happened to the List. I guess Bloomburrow will be the last boosters me and my brother got for a long time. If they at least keept it at 1 in each Display and added the Critters to the set too. We liked what we saw from the Set so we pre ordered some products. But it leaves a sour taste considering they watering down the play boosters even more to move Set boosters closer to Draft Boosters but with the same Price tag while also adding the Scam boosters... Feels weak. I mean it is easier to pull two (decent) rares from Wilds of Eldrains and March of the Machine Draft.

Both of those sets you mention have bonus sheets but this one doesn't, so it's not really a fair comparison

​@@RipAndShip In theory it does. It simply was moved to the Collectors boosters which is one of the points I wanted to make. In theory previous sets had the List as some kind of bonus sheet even if it isn't categorized like it. And the 2nd Bonus Sheet which we know as the Bonus Sheet was moved to the Collectors Box. Thunder Junction e.g. has two Bonus Sheets which acutally got the title of Bonus sheet. And because it was impossible to add three additional sheets to the regular sheet of set cards they skipped the list in Thunder Junction. I understand why it feels like an unjust comparison after all I mentioned sets that had a set of cards that actually got the title of bonus Sheet while also having the List. And maybe I should've been clearer why I made that specific comparison. Moving the Critters into Collectors Boosters is very clearly a decision to make Play Boosters closer to Draft boosters while keeping the Set Boosters price. And as I said thanks again for pointing out the changes. I have some Bloomburrow Pre-Orders and while getting hyped and watching box openings I got confused because I never saw a list card.
