The sanctioning bodies need to help the tracks with safety upgrades. 😉

They should also do something about these tires on the track, it's like hitting a telephone pole.

HL and the WOO already knew the situation at Riverside before they went there! Now,because somebody went through the chicken wire,they are complaining. How about being proactive instead of reactive?

Central High School in Middleburg, PA, has a few dirt car specials as one of the teachers also works at the nearby Selinsgrove Speedway. They bring cars that race, rather than a show car. I'm not outdoing anybody here. I just think those types of initiatives are very much needed to help keep the sport alive and kicking!

I use to race SLM at riverside, started in 2006 when Clayton bought the track and he has made some improvements but walls and fence wasn’t one of them and continued to be the same until I quit racing in 2013. Only been there 1 time since in about 2018 but I can’t see anything changing since. Maybe he will now but all he did when I raced was removed the inside guard rail and take out the sprinkler system which completely ruined the track prep ever since, track is a muddy sloppy mess until sprint car heat races when they knock the mud layer off.

I think it would be a good idea to have the tracks, sanctioning bodies, broadcasters and safety companies all get together and try and find a cost effective and safer fence system for tracks. The Indy Racing League went full into safety and developed the SAFER barrier with help from The University of Nebraska and Midwest Roadside Safety Facility. As we all know, that system has been put into place at every Indycar and NASCAR track in the country. I know cooperation between 2 people in racing is hard, but it would benefit all of dirt track racing if it was a group effort to solve this problem. It would also spread development and manufacturing cost to help make it economically more atractive. Someone needs to organize a meeting of all the players in the game at the next PRI.

I might have missed an episode or two, but have you mentioned that the verdict is definitely out on Stockton dirt track they postpone their latest narc race because of the quality of the track and facility
@busher696 ай бұрын
I wish I knew what was going on with Stockton. Seems to me that place has been an off-road type track from day one. Now with the reconfiguration they're starting from scratch. Do they have any clay in the surface at all? I've been around since Manzanita in 1960 and I've never seen a track surface consistently bad as Stockton. It's a darn shame, Cali needs as many tracks as it can get these days.
@c.j.hackett13326 ай бұрын
@@busher69 I couldn’t agree more. Stockton is a perfect facility for sprint car racing. The track has been very bad since it started but at least as a half mile you could sometimes get two lanes of racing. It might’ve been rough as hell but it was fun to watch and the drivers were battling it’s pretty much unreasonable now hopefully big changes are made before the next narc event

My father started bringing me to the races at West Capitol Speedway and Calistoga as a new born. I grew up thinking Kenny Woodruff and Duke MCMILLIN were part of our family because we were with them so much traveling all over the country racing sprintcars. My father, Kenny and Jimmy Boyd won the first World of Outlaws sanctioned race at Devils Bowl. You can see the car at the hall of fame. We raced right up until the night my dad passed. Tim Keading won at Silver Dollar Speedway that night. Leroy Van Conet who was a very close and personal friend to my family was with us at the service. Leroy drove for my grandfather and my dad off and on. We raced silver crown cars and indy cars too. The point that I'm trying to make is that racing is dangerous. I have pictures of Leroy at Calistoga running with no cage at all. I have seen numerous drivers killed doing what they love. Including on at Hanford who barely hit the wall but didn't have his belts on correctly and no hauns collar device. We should be like Nascar and do everything that makes sense for the sport. However, you always have to remember that racing is a dangerous profession.

Go to the Whistle Stop, you won't be disappointed with the food!
@chrispeck13256 ай бұрын
Idk if I'd say that. I'm not trying to bash the place, it was a really cool place, with a great atmosphere, but the food was mediocre at best. That being said, I would still go back, as it was a really cool place. The staff was great, the atmosphere was awesome (they were playing a trivia game and had some good prizes, including cash), the prices were reasonable, so definitely a place to go. Unless I just got the wrong thing (I got a burger, fries, fried mushrooms, my wife got some kind of chicken sandwich and we got a few other things) most of it was out of a bag frozen and ok, not great. Still, it's a cool place to go.

Didn't a guy get killed at lawerceburg in Indiana from a direct impact with the wall? Seems like walls at a track that fast could also cause problems
@drunkashull6 ай бұрын
@@PaulTrouser as opposed to launching high into the air, landing down a steep embankment with the energy having no where to go but straight into the ground? the wall releases much of that energy, and the car doesn't land a hundred yards away from any first responder.

That would great! And then put a camera in 1 & 2 so we can see which fans don't make it from the back stretch to the front.
@Plinian6 ай бұрын
I don’t think most people would have an issue with that if the cars were going over the bank and into empty field. The utility poles on the outside of the turns and the parking lot to the north of the track make that a tough sell.
@CM-ve1bz6 ай бұрын
@@Plinian Move the parking lot back and move the lights to the inside. Both ends can easily be rearranged to have a minor catch fence 75 feet off the track. Rearrange the back a little and pit all the cars on the backside. I’ve been around a little and I can’t recall anybody that would rather hit a wall than drive off the end.
@CM-ve1bz6 ай бұрын
@@lilolme69 Actually that would be 3 and 4, but who’s counting. Wouldn’t take a lot of changes to get all the cars behind the back straight.

Maybe we need remote control dirt cars and a jumbotron to watch so we can all be safe from dangerous dirt racing. I thought that was always the fun of it. But I do agree some things could be safer I guess.
