I also have barn cats. They are fixed, vet checked, well respected, and loved strays that showed up on my farm. It is possible to love and respect an animal and allow it to do what is in its DNA as well. ❤

Why not let them breed The more cats the less rats and mice. They will find there own hiding places and survive. This is born out by the plague of feral cats in outback Australia.

It's NICE to know that you love the cats, because they are precious and have their own unique personalities easily becoming a part of a family as much as dogs. I hope they get to come in and out, as the dogs do to visit and cuddle, and not remain solely outside, especially during the winter. But you did say you were accommodating them regarding warmth. My brother's a doctor, and his wife's a veterinarian. They say as a baby grows it's healthy, especially toddlers, for an animal's familiarity and to help prevent allergies, to be around animals as often as possible. Most new parents feel they should isolate children, however, as the child becomes more adapt to an environment, animals and the natural ways of nature they'll be much more healthy and happy for it. 😏

Are your kitties males? I have found they make better mousers. Without making this a long story, we now have a feral cat that is indoors and outdoors. He takes care of mice, birds, small snakes, and even squirrels. He stays in most the time in the winter and most the time outside in the nice months. He has a heated cat house outside. He does all his bathroom needs outside and has never had an accident nor tore anything up. We are his only humans and doesn’t trust but a few others. Your kitties could easily be indoor/outdoor and still accomplish the rodent problem.

I’ve had cats who loved being outside, and others who could not care less. The cats will decide and make their preferences known. Emphatically. And don’t believe the myths of aloof, independent felines. They will bond with you, your child, and even your dogs in ways that will delight you. Cats are wonderful!

If you ever need an indoor litter solution…pine pellets in a double cat pan, with the top one having sifter holes in it. You need a spacer between for which I place 5 Vienna sausage cans. The pellets turn to sawdust when they pee and go into the bottom. You’ll need to dip out the poop. Cheap and no odor! I only change it out once a week and add new pellets to what’s left.❤️ (where I live pine pellets 40 lbs/under 8.00 and lasts me a couple of months for 2 fully indoor cats.)

She has brought me all kinds of gifts from the beyond. It’s sad but its the circle of life and she is doing her job. Enjoy Guys, I think it could work out perfectly for your growing family! An outside cat adopted us 2 yrs ago. My daughter has developed a strong bond with Kittle. So he is now an outside inside cat. He has heat and air in the garage and sometimes he sleeps out there. We let him go outside during the day but if he's not inside to sleep on her bed, she gets very agitated and doesn't rest until he's inside. He even travels the 675 miles to visit our families in a different state! Cat's are such fun to watch and are often almost human like. They become devoted to their humans. My grandaughter is almost 13 btw. She does have Acute Panic and Anxiety Disorder and Kittle has helped her with this just by being beside her!

BUT BUT them Hugh rodents came into my parents fruit trees and over time both parents set traps and poison and for nothing till my daddy got 2 wild stray cats from the mountains brought them home. I found a couple of tiny kittens in a pampers box sitting in the middle of the rd. Had someone hit tht box with their vehicle those 2 babies def wouldn’t have made it. I stopped bc my little boy was looking out the window and he said Mom go back I seen something inside of the box. I knew before I went back, but I thought it was gonna be puppies for some reason. But he opened his door and 2 lil orange kittens popped their heads up and I said, put them in the car. We were going to a bday party tht day so they went with us. They were brothers and so dang cute but so small. I took them to the vet the next day because I seen they were struggling with the cat food. Tht was the end of Sept and of course we still have the lil boogers,😂 Peanut & Sunny, and just like urs they feel the need to be on me when they sleep, LoL. Especially Peanut, he tries “nursing” all around my neck especially but he also does my hands. I tried finding them homes when we first found them but now they’re at their furever home, here with us. Omg, I love the hair on y’all’s lil kittens 🥰 they’re just so dang cute and we have mice around here also. We live out in the country here in Ky and we have chicken feed, goat and sheep feed ,etc so yeah the mice r everywhere here. But our outdoor cat does take care of sooo many. I know these kittens would also but I’m just to scared to put them out because of predators. I know they could def climb a tree, I’m just afraid I would also have to climb it to get them back down,😂 Merry Christmas to y’all, just think this time next yr will be baby’s 1st Christmas, how precious 💕 God bless u all and I hope y’all have a very blessed New Yr 🙏🫶🏻🎄

Kitty's are the bet and they are beautiful!! You show them love, provide, and they will do the job being inside AND/OR outside cats to show their appreciation. I have had cats since the day I was born and all our cats until now who is a foster have been inside/outside. They pretty much spend sun up to down out and would come in at night. No matter how you raise them they are natural born hunters. In their nature and will get it done! They will serve you even if they come in at night to keep them safe.

As you’ve obviously heard you have domesticated kitties. Feral cats take years to bond. That said they will still hunt for you- you will decide their lifespan by either leaving them out day and night or bringing them in. Outdoor kittens have a lifespan of about 6 years if they’re smart. Indoor cats can live 15-20 years. I’m glad you love them and hope they perform well for you.

Interesting. Just had a neighbor over who adopted fully feral cats from the Amish, worked with them to establish a bond, and they lived outside till they were 22 and 20, the former died just last summer.

@@ElsaRhae Now that’s what we all hope for! My numbers are simply stats and fortunately/unfortunately we don’t get to predict the future. Good luck with those beautiful mousers- expect gifts from them, a snake here or there, a mouse, a voll whatever they are hunting. We lived in the suburbs and my old cat brought me volls every couple of days. She was an indoor/outdoor cat and lived to be 16 and hunted like a champ! We didn’t have rattlesnakes though or coyotes.

He tried to escape quite a few times but he had proven he would not find his way home on his own so we always went after him 🥲 on the day he died, we let him outside and he walked around and explored with such delight that I felt so sad he hadn’t always known such freedom- all of that to say there is nothing wrong with a cat living outside. I’m sure they will be well looked after. Great video Elsa!
