Yes! Augments is what I wanted from the very beginning! I thought they will call in an old manner "widgets", but it doesn't matter, call it what ever you want, important to have that functionality all over the home: calendar, weather, video screens, to-do lists, app links, etc.. What in not enough is to costomize your virtual home with all real furniture, so that I could put various skins on real object. Hopefully it will be implemented later.

Augments, realistic shadows and relighting sound awesome. So glad they decided to use MR to push AR development, this will enable AR to explode when good glasses are finally available. Very exciting that more large companies are getting into the space. Still a lot of work to be done but there is already some compelling use cases.

Take a look at the XREAL air 2 ultra. its gonna be released, sometime in March.From what I saw at CES, it will have 6dof and advanced hand tracking, among other things. You can pre-order it for about $700, which isn't that bad for what you're getting.

For the RayNeo X2 and X2 Lite AR glasses from TCL. I work with that team actually 😊 and to answer your question on prescription. There are prescription lens inserts that can be manufactured in your script that then snap into place on the inside of the glasses themselves using anchor points built into the frame thus no interference with our Binocular MicroLED Optical Waveguide. So when your script updated you won’t need a new set of glasses. Hope that helps answer your question. Any other details you’d like on them just let me know.

I wonder when they are going to fix the passthrough camera video quality varying wildly for different users. People have reported factory resets have improved their image quality, so it sounds like its a software issue. Mine is grainy as hell like the ISO is turned up too high.

2024 is shaping up to be an exciting year for VR/AR. Apple coming out with their own headset shows there is a much bigger market for these headsets but it could also be a flop. And if the Apple Vision Pro flops, could set the market back a couple of years. My Quest 3 feels like an even better purchase as we see what the Vision pro is bringing to the market. To me, it feels like if there are any improvements that need to be made to catch up with the Vision pro might come down to software upgrades that bring increased functionality to the Quest 3. Happy to own the poor mans version of the Vision Pro :)

Used the HoloLens for a few years before the quest 2 came out. If the augments are anywhere near as good as the HoloLens room setup was, this is going to be pretty game changing for quest users. 0:21

Now, the augments will be cool if they allow you to mirror the browser. I would definitely develop a widget for that. Also, I was hoping that true AR would have started down the smart watch path. I would much rather get push notifications, weather, time, bio info, etc... that way. Than keeping a watch on my wrist any day.

I wonder if the shadows and highlights will get implemented in the main Quest 3 UI. It only seems logical that a giant screen floating in your room should cast some light. Although they don't have lighting or shadows in full VR mode in the stock environments either so I don't have high hopes

The augments have SOOO many possible implications. When you're talking about pieces of Digital Art, possibly even something like a 3d model like a little minion or a pet or something interactive that you can buy, own, sell and also build on top of. I dont have much interest in AR for Quest 3. Passthrough is pretty grainy if you dont have a well lit room (atleast i'm assuming that's what would fix the issue)

It's grainy even in a well lit room. If you had studio lighting then it'd look a lot better but for the average person it'll always be grainy. Still looks good though for what it is.

My guess for the ar glasses since you need prescription lenses unless you have very unique eyes I can probably guess that you cam buy them with your prescription or at least buy them separately(probably from them or a 3rd party that works with them) and just pop the old lenses like any other pair of glasses

Apple vision pro will have the Blu-ray treatment... what do i mean by that?` i remember around the time the first blu-rays were advertised/shown, they were supposed to be this new advanced media with really cool tools only possible on blu-ray. After just a year it was super rare to see these features, if at all. Yes, apple does really good with their software, but for a device like this it still needs to be profitable, especially for a company like Apple. I'm super hyped to see the device in the wild. Not because i will buy one ever, but for what it can theoretically can do and it's basically in this weird 3rd space of AR/VR/XR space where it isn't gaming, but this really defined device which is like super interesting. I hope they don't fail, as we need just overall more devices like this in the market. For Quest 3, i don't own one, and i get super annoyed with problems with my Quest 2, but i can't upgrade atm. one cool thing is that it is the "only" real budget VR that you can consider for an allrounder headset that isn't complete horrendous to use. Especially with the features for it's price. So i hope Quest 4 can be this Full-around headset with all the bells and whistles for VR/AR that we need, but affordable.

This is all very cool stuff, but... when might Meta address the tracking issues that thousands of people are experiencing with the Q3 controllers? The Q2 never lost tracking, but the Q3 does when moving your arm quickly. I got the Pro controllers, and they do not lose tracking at all, but spending an additional $300 is not a reasonable ask just to make the new technology work as well as the the old technology. Will Meta ever consider making the Q3 backwards compatible to the Q2 controllers (this may solve the issue)? The silence from Meta is deafening!

the apple vision pro has been pushed to be a computer device for creating, communication, work, and media -- gaming is a second thought... unless they sell VR controllers then VR games wont be possible because i cant see gaming devs focusing on hand only gaming...instead it will be a select few titles that can use a playstation or xbox controller and played on a virtural large screen i love that disney plus has jumped on board with 3D movies -- but why havent they done the same for meta quest - still no dedicated disney plus app and the UK have no 3D movies (from my understanding america have access to 3D movies on the quest)

Oh I'm sure we all would tbh 😂 Unfortunately I don't think that's actually physically possible. I'd say it's a hardware limitation with the cameras they chose. I could be wrong though and would love to see some software magic make that happen.

If they plan on releasing games this thing would be a beast as far as specs go but I've never heard of any gamer saying f PC get a Mac 😅. But still very powerful chip, games are a stretch and controllers will be a must regardless how they implement them. Expect spending another 1000 for those soon I'd guess.

I don't really see Apples new Headset as anything crazy. They literally just took the Apple approach with AR. Throw a bunch of money at a product use what thhey already have copy others and call it new. Then make it crazy expensive compared to what everyone else offers. Oh, and lock everything down to Apple. They basically just took their laptop and made into an AR added some AR features and was like yeah we did it! Now, pay is a ton of money.

Macs traditionally have sucked at gaming and have always pushed it to the side - I don't see the Vision Pro being any different... which is why it will ultimately fail. Yes, it is very impressive technology, but what they are hyping is just VR or AR... something we've had for quite some time. They are acting like they invented the idea of being in a virtual environment - I've been doing that for about ten years now! Fine, it's powerful and doing standalone better than it has been done up to this point. At that money - IT BETTER! I can get a Varjo XR-4 for less and have a *WAY* better device. Yes, that is a PC VR, which means it's tethered, but also means it will run better, have more programs and is made by a company that has been in the VR game for years and has made the highest, state of the art hardware for military and executive applications. The Vision Pro is a big deal because it's Apple and people will brag they have one.... then get bored with it and it will rapidly be that $5000 (the real price) paperweight.
