I worked in London in the early 70s, off the boat you might say, I met with a couple of geordie lads, they helped me find my way, even though they were finding their own too, a more decent bunch you will not find, this song brings it all back to me.

I worked on this production of ‘Sunday For Sammy’ for Lighting and Sound production team. It was a pleasure to be part of such a heart felt, very northern show. Proud to be from the North East and glad our stars remember, love and put back into our beloved North East!! 🎉🎉

It’s 3am and I’m feeling very blessed to have been born in the NE. This song makes me very emotional as I’m old enough to remember the greatness that we have lost. We have not lost the spirit of the people. I hope we haven’t at least.

You know, I don't think we have. They are still the salt of the Earth and unbelievably friendly. I've been away twenty years and how I miss it, has just hit me like a tidal wave...

My late, beloved son Paul and I saw Jimmy sing this acapella in the City Hall here in a Newcastle in 2001. You could hear a pin drop followed by tumultuous applause. Amazing! 🙏👏👏

One of his best songs. Love it. Jimmy Nail, Tim Healy and Kevin Whately made Auf Wiedersehen Pet. They were all superb, especially Tim Spall and Chris Fairbank.

This song reminds me of my dad and uncles growing up on Tyne side in the 1950’s hearing about how it was such a struggle and even though there wasn’t much money our family managed to get by

Where was this? What was the performance for? I remember when I sawJimmy at the town hall many years ago. And he sang this song. It’s about the Wallsend ship yard. My uncle was a painter, we went on the war ship he painted. The line for to see the ship was over a mile long. Then they closed down the ship yard. It’s also about the coal mining and transporting the coal on ships etc.

Sammy Johnson A keen musician, he learned to play the guitar at an early age and one of his first bands was ‘Pigmeat’ with Jim Murray and Ray Stubbs. However, a job playing bass guitar at a Live Theatre panto in Newcastle led to a part in the show and the beginning of his acting career. Sammy's big break was when he was cast as ‘Stick’ in ‘Spender,’ a TV detective series written by Jimmy Nail and Ian La Frenais. It was this role more than any other that endeared Sammy to the public. Following his success in 'Spender' Sammy began to turn his hand to scriptwriting and moved house to live near Malaga in Spain. It was while jogging in the hills there in 1998 that he collapsed and died. He was 49 years old

Thanks. I also wondered who Sammy was. I’ve lived away from the NE for some years so missed this. I have to say, well, the emotion shown on this recording is emotion inducing! ‘I’m so so very proud’ to have been born here, to have suffered the white privilege of an outside toilet in the midst of winter! 😂 Aww man 😊❤️ I’m so very happy to be back in the NE!
