Seeing the two of you fully diving into hip hop culture and actually paying attention makes me so happy. Alot of people don't understand how this was a major outlet for African Americans to talk about what they grew up in and it was so negatively taken in the late 80's but has grown into this. Now people just judge the whole culture with radio songs which isn't even the tip of the iceberg when it comes to this culture. Ugh im so happy with you two. Sorry for ranting

I like to consider Kendrick's verse the equivalent of a speech given by a captain of a sports team. He [Kendrick] clearly felt hip hop, and the artists therein, where not pushing the genre enough and so he gave everyone a jolt of energy and inspiration with this verse. Also, a quick fact, this song was meant to appear on a Big Sean project but when he heard how much fire Kendrick brought, he gave the song to him. You've just got to love him.

"What is competition, I'm tryna raise the bar high" is probably the best summary to pick one line for what Kendrick was doing. He wasn't at all talking down on the people he mentioned (although he did go on to have beef with Sean), the point was that he was trying to raise the bar. He's trying to raise the bar himself and bringing in the names of all these well known and respected rappers into it, he's forcing them to raise the bar for themselves and so in theory, hip hop as a whole in order to keep up with the competition. It's so dope.
@phunkmastaphish6 жыл бұрын
YetiHype also by dropping all those names he set the bar high for HIMSELF. After you spit bars like that you can't put out any trash or throwaways, and Kendrick still has yet to disappoint.

Sometimes, I feel like nobody is listening words anymore, only what they want to hear ! There is no controversy in this particular part of the kendrick verde. All this part talks about is LOVE, RESPECT and COMPETITION SPIRIT as part of hip hop DNA. Kendrick estimates them at least as equal. Like sport, you need to compete with the best players to be the best. He loves the game, he loves to play and he loves his comrades but in the end, they are all rap game opponents. No diss, just love, respect and competition. Not the way I think but understandable as hip hop fan. By the way, I love the way how you're listening music. Keep it up guys !

The reason Kendricks verse on on this was so iconic was because there has always been beef between west coast hiphop and east coast and Kendrick, from LA, said he was king of New york, ("I juggle em both"). Obviously was also huge because he came out and named all the biggest rappers at the time and said I got love for you all but I'm trying to murder you like try to come take this crown I ain't scared of nobody. He wasn't calling these people out because they were bad, he was saying I want you all to try to step to me because I really am the best. The people he named were the people he respected the most and he wanted spark some competition to prove he was the best.

So big sean came out with a couple tracks dissin kendrick with no name mention but we knew who it was for. The kendrick also dropped tracks "- King Kunta, -Heart Part 4, -Element." Recommend those

React to MF DOOM (Accordion, All caps and Beef rap are some of my recommendations). I will comment this every vid until they do.

You do realize MF Doom is gonna fly over their heads?

Syed Ayaan true same thing I said with earl's better music. Imagine if they tried Aesop, or even black thought they won't get any of the references by any barely esoteric artists. Guys like Andre, rakim, redman,nas, elzhi, ra rugged man will be more up their ally when it comes to lyricists.

Nah man they'd appreciate DOOM's flow. His wordplay is unparalleled.
@Isaiah_McIntosh6 жыл бұрын
Needless Moose we agree DOOM is incredible but will they enjoy or understand anything without a genius explanation, maybe not. That's not a dig DOOM isn't the type of artist to listenti once and get everything I just don't think they will find any reason to hook into his work, more likely they will default cop out to "I can tell what he does with words is incredible but its not for me." I am sure simon won't like any of the beats either.

Isaiah Mc Intosh I mean yeah it took me like 100 listens to catch every little thing in Accordion it would still be interesting to see what they think of Doom I think.

An underrated thing about this song is that Sean got Kendrick's verse back and still decided to release it even though he knew what people would say.

Maaaaan, I love that you guys are still learning the rap hierarchy, because it’s funny, after this came out almost no one dared say anything to Kendrick, except for drake and Kendrick ended that later. I first saw this verse because they were talking about how insane the verse is, and if he just ended everyone. Amazing. Kendrick is the Greatest of all time

Tomas Manriquez Yes! People are always requesting Kendrick songs (or songs featuring him), but they should switch it up with something more experimental.

It would be ideal for them considering they like more aggressive rap it seems and do come from a metal background!

Shaqnokobe jay electronica and flipping RA need to drop more flipping music, they are some of rap's great technicians but they need to drop more projects.

Now that youve done one of your most requested can you please react to kendrick lamar and j cole - black friday. Not an iconic moment by any means but they both released songs called black friday where cole raps over one of kendricks most famous beats and kendrick raps over one of coles most famous beats. Kendrick easily has the better black friday imo but you should listen to them both in the same episode to be able to compare them directly

Jay Electronica - Exhibit C He was one of the most praised newcomers in 07 and 08, the greatest hip hop artists ever called him the future of hip hop and everybody pushed him to release an album already and this song really shows why. Fantastic song
