It must be amazing to live somewhere where you can just walk along and pick up fossil teeth like that. I have some meg teeth, all bought from ebay. It would be great to just find them lying there waiting for you to pick them up. But would you be able to sell them on or would you want to keep them?
@jbiebs10018 жыл бұрын
Different states have different laws on collecting and selling. For instance its probably legal for him to collect on public land (some places), but illegal for him to sell his finds. The laws get even stingier with artifacts. People are always asking this question in every comment section and he's always saying that he does not.
@blackriverfossils8 жыл бұрын
Only public waterways are regulated here, but there are commercial licenses available for those who wish to collect and sell fossils obtained in those locations. Even though I don't do so, I could sell anything I found collecting on private property.

@diavolo232319 жыл бұрын
South of South Africa - Cape of good hope! It's a Great White Shark area! One of the many! But you need to go to the shore and start looking very carefully! If you spend much time searching slowly you'll get one! I guess your town is not near the beach!? I can't find one... searching for 3 days but there is a lot of stuff where I am now! You must move slowly and make a closer look everywhere for a little one! I still search and I will continue! This video is awesome and very helpful! Now I know what to look and most important how it looks half of it above and half of it under the sand!

What part of Summerville is this fossil hunt taking place in?
@amandahansen1199 жыл бұрын
Hi! I recently found some sharks teeth in the Edisto River that are badly stained and algae covered. What method do you use to clean the teeth you find? Love the videos by the way!
@blackriverfossils9 жыл бұрын
+Amanda Hansen the best way to clean them is to rub them with an old sock right when you find them. that black crust will come right off. If you let it dry, it gets hard as a rock and can be next to impossible to remove without air abrasion with glass beads. you might try tooth paste, fast orange hand cleaner, and even denture cleaner to remove it. always try new methods on broken fossils first so you know what the effects will be before you try them on nice fossils.

That was really crazy to see! I found a small sharks tooth today, yet they are so very rare here in eastern NC! Where on earth are you collecting those? What state? Really cool to see and i bet i could actually get into being able to find that stuff. Can you imagine how many pre-historic sharks, etc. have been deposited and spread accross those areas??? STUNNED... I know as you were, yet those fossils mean so much to this History teacher and North American Indian pre-Columbian study! Thanks for showing thr reality of that hunt!

haysreneearmj3 i hear ya. it takes some nerve to go down in the dark water. land collecting is tough because of all the competition . I have heard of people having luck at Richlands quarry and Onslow quarry. If you're feeling adventurous and up for exporation, check out anywhere they are building a housing development and digging retention ponds in the coastal plain. There are usually fossils to be found in places like that. best of luck to you.

@blackriverfossils9 жыл бұрын
you would use different techniques in different locations. regardless of where i hunt, i always move slowly and methodically. I look for small teeth. If you can see a small tooth, then big teeth will be a piece of cake to find. Look for bits of teeth exposed - Just a root, just a blade, a smooth edge, serrations. Most teeth are only partially exposed.

@blackriverfossils9 жыл бұрын
Aj Rafferty I have never done well at any beach (except Venice Beach in FL) at hunting teeth. Its because too many people look so as soon as something gets exposed it gets found. If you are going to succeed at beach collecting you have to be first there as soon as its low tide and day time. Off-season times like during the winter are the best.
