Lovely fish, was it hooked in the flank? as I see fly stuck in side of fish at 14:01 on clip
@Cumbrianangler Жыл бұрын
No, that’s the tube fly you can see it’s slid down the line while the hook is still in the mouth.
@bruinocanfish2370 Жыл бұрын
The reason why I asked was wondering if that's how it fought so hard. Many years ago I hooked a salmon in the flank and the fish was really difficult to land thought I had hooked a monster.

@@bruinocanfish2370 Was fair and square in the mouth, there’s a photo on my Instagram of its head and can see the hook still in its mouth 👍

@@chriswright2135 The line is a shooting head, rio of some kind. The scandi kit I think bought it a couple years ago now. 15lb leader. Fly was just my own pattern. A orange shrimp fly.

Is Bruce still running the show there ? Used to get on there for 20 quid a day all season. The summer grilse on the trout rod is something else. Watched Colin land 10 springers in one day on the fly in chocolate water about 1.5 to 2 feet higher than it is there,think they averaged 14lb. It's an incredible beat,some huge fish spawn in the gravel run at the top just below the meeting of the Isla and Ericht, think they run after the season closes, watched a few over 40lb there that looked to be guarding redds at the opening of the season.

Bruce still runs it yeah, a little more expensive than £20 a day now though 😂

@@Cumbrianangler I'm pretty sure if i phoned him i could still get on for twenty quid ;) I don't do any Salmon fishing these days but that is my favourite beat out of all the rivers i fished in the past. Mega consistent fishing and quality fish at the right times as you saw. Well done landing that fish on your own, even though you were hyped you didn't panic,did a great job netting it. Don't know how often you fish it but if you can get back up this month at the end of the big tides there should be some great grilse fishing on the trout rod. 6 or 7 weight, small cotton bud tube flies (7mm tube) and size 16 or 14 trebles,fish at 90 degrees with a quick short strip keeping it in the film for best v wake and hold on. I had spent so much time trout fishing the first time i had a go i had to look away to get hooked up as i kept pulling the fly away from them every time they bumped it, sometimes half a dozen fish following it at once. They usually come on in every pool at the same time.

@@robertgallacher7214Great knowledge thanks for that, I’ve only fished the beat for 2 years now & I’ve been lucky both times catching big spring fish on both occasions. The one on this video had lice on it too, later on that day I got another with long tail lice on it where I landed this fish. I might have to have a run up for the grilse sounds good crack. I was very excited playing this fish it certainly got the blood pumping, that’s what it’s all about for me 😂
@robertgallacher7214 Жыл бұрын
@@Cumbrianangler Check with Bruce what the grilse are doing this year, like most places they vary from year to year but even in a lower numbers year you still have a great chance of getting into them. It's the most visually exciting Salmon fishing i have ever had and the lighter trout set up really has you working for them. Early evenings were best the times i had them but the regulars then reckoned they could come on at any time of day, especially on cloudy muggy days. I can't remember the times after high tide at Perth that some of them reckoned told you when a new group of fish arrived but Bruce will know, so you could book a day to suit. Hope you have many more good trips up here, i have a few good fishing mates down in Cumbria that came up every year to fish with me on the coast prior to Covid,great bunch of lads that all know what they are doing.
