"Someone was here before" I think something super fascinating would be the remains of an advanced faction with advanced technology like prototech, however a twist: they are what remained of humanity. The part of humanity that stayed behind and became so advanced that they reached almagest and died out before the initial voyagers made it.

Imagine a Factroum spacesuit that is like the Subnautica Exosuit or No Man’s Sky’s Exo Mech, and allows players to use small ship sized tools and increased battery/tank capacity, thrust, carrying capacity, movement speed, etc to make a middle ground between designated building vessels and simply being in a spacesuit.

Suit upgrades could also be something to discourage engineer spam: When you die, you lose all the upgrades you've installed. Perhaps combining that with some way of making time a resource in getting upgrades, (e.g. you only gain one slot for an upgrade every X minutes). Sure, you can spam clones to take something out but that means you aren't going to have a suit with +50% storage capacity, +10% mining yield and targeting assist.
@TheFakeGooberGoblin3 күн бұрын
@@chakatfirepawMany great ideas! Stat modifiers and upgrade slots especially. Then the more expensive (or rare if enemy drop/mission related) armor sets can have more upgrade slots which would make them extremely valuable and perhaps make engineers value safety more and build more ships and outposts. Obviously I don’t want it to go too far in an rpg direction, but I think rare uncraftable player related drops similar to the already present rare uncraftable factorum parts would make the stakes feel much higher when your wearing it. Imagine different armor sets with different set bonuses. For instance mining-focused armor (not including its own various possible upgrades) might have a set bonus of displaying any ores within a 250m radius like an ore detector

I think the story choice is quite clever. The "settlers arrive in waves" idea, in addition of allowing the setup of initial factions, *also* gives an open-ended option for future additions, whether common game updates or DLCs: You can still have *others* from Earth arriving *later*. These could be anything you want. For example, maybe after some time the Calypso left, Earth collapsed into a mess, and a fleet of survivors fled and started the journey to Almagest? Of course, that already happened that 10,000 years ago and now they are arriving. Or, perhaps they are not rag-tag fugitives but the elite of some dictatorial government(s) and their military, that having survived a nuclear war, used their remaining resources to leave the Earth they had destroyed in their wars, and now after 10,000 years, they are arriving. Or, heck, have both the "fugitives" and "military" arrive in two fleets so you have a setup for immediate tension. Or something else. Possibilities for new arrivals are endless.

It honestly feels like AI was involved in writing that campaign intro text. Those paragraphs about "troubled past" sound way too similar to some of the outputs that I've produced with ChatGPT. Now mind you, this doesn't have to be a bad thing. I hope we all agree that Space Engineers has no need for Mass Effect levels of story depth and using AI as part of the storytelling toolchain could enable the game to react to player choices in a truly dynamic way. Wouldn't it be awesome if Keen designed a campaign with locations, NPCs and factions, but left it up to a chat AI to connect these dots in a way that is most fitting to the actions players take in the world? I think that could be really awesome!

Waiting for survival mode here! As someone who thoroughly enjoys a more "Guided" play of Space Engineers, the campaign sounds like an absolute win, there is some concerns however about how scripted it will be however. First of all, I prefer a scenario based format, ala the Frostbite, or Learning to survive (space platform tutorial) methodology, where I have clear pre-set but everything else is more or less hands off; My latest run of Frostbite was begun as I found the infinite nuclear power mod, and used it to bypass the biggest issue of the enemy drones, and bases in the scenario; they run out of power, and the security fields deactivate, so the only additional rule I have is that I can't build nuclear reactors, and the optional objective of building a morgue, and repairing the old surface base (the one with the collapsed elevator shaft), It's rather fun, and I do plan to make use of Splitsie's scrapyard scenario and others to enjoy some more open ended play (as I have no idea how to spawn in planets and frostbite has only the one, with no asteroids). So Whilst I would be fine with a heavily scripted opening mission, in line with the first tutorial scenario, I would prefer for them to develop more open ended/hands off approaches to later missions, more akin to a populated lost colony, or frostbite. Perhaps something akin to the escape mars (I think that's what the mod scenario was called), as a good middle ground. But not a Bioware styled RPG; such games are by default highly scripted and likely to go off the rails if you do something entirely unexpected. That all said, despite being the sort of player such a feature is aimed at, I would prefer a fully functional multiplayer and SE1 style play, as the thing keeping SE popular are those core features, in addition to the fact they will wind up running around like headless chickens if they implement proper multiplayer second. Modding on the other hand, I am disappointed there won't e steam support as I haven't even touched the other method, and forgot it existed until your last video where you mentioned it. All in all highly excited to see what it will bring, and less than worried about potential buggyness, I am an EA ARK player, and was there before they started adding new map DLC's to that game. It'll feel like home.

I hope we can “hire” NPCs for various tasks. For example, if an NPC is working on a weapon system, it will react faster, have a greater range, etc. Or an NPC working on a refinery makes it faster and more efficient. This way, NPCs would not just stand around stupidly in the area, but would have a real task on board. (Similar to Conan Exiles, where you can also have NPCs working on workbenches etc.)

You have a mission to build up a series of colonies, locating a series of caverns filled with dilapidated technologies on a large ice core. Fight against the AI remnants of the original builders and several rogue agencies trying to monopolise the tech and Ice. You travel around the system locating abandoned stations, ships or structures on the other worlds etc. this tech once repaired and expanded allow the planet to be terraformed slowly turning a dead world into a new prospective Eden.

I think that having the campaign alone adds some good value to the single player experiance, and it's good that they're working on the NPC factions as well. I do hope that the new economy system will be more robust than SE1's however. I do hope that there will be the ability to make and share custom scenarios like what we have now, and it would be cool if Keen were to make their own custom scenarios beyond whatever they have planned for the main campaign, like they did with Lost Colony, Frostbite, and the original SE Intro scenario. With regards to when I will be buying it... I will most likely wait until we have: Hinges, Rotors, Wheels, Custom Turrets, Plants, and Workshop support before I go ahead and actually buy the game.

I also don't like playing scary games and I still enjoyed that game. Stories are important, but I won't be buying this game until there's a multiplayer element. If Keen can make the story element not completely rigid and allow some flexibility, it will really help. That's one reason that stories sometimes are not fun because it won't let you do anything outside of that rigid structure.

I understand people now hold Keen to a specific standard with the quality updates they have been doing plus I also understand that 2024 has not been the best yeah at all for the gaming industry especially with early access launches and games that have flopped within a week of releasing. @@edcrosbie4651 I think his stance is not to take the Paradox/EA route, and lock some things behind DLCs. The Frostbite DLC, for example, locked an entire planet behind a paywall. While the DLCs aren't necessary for gameplay, too many with very little base game development (as the first batch of DLCs were for SE) can ultimately lead to the perception of greed. I too am on this same stance.
@WagudCode3 күн бұрын
@@edcrosbie4651 You know there are more options for games than tons of DLC or Lootboxes. A good option would be a full game from the get-go. You don't have to pick between corporate greed A or corporate greed B. From an outside view, I can only assume Space Engineers locks key gameplay elements behind a DLC paywall that goes on top of the already priced game. The only time when it's somewhat okay to do a many DLC price plan is if the base game is free. I've seen too many games, indie and corporate, slowly lock features behind paywalls even when the base game already cost money to get in. I am hesitant to play any game that has tons of DLC, or any planned game that already has planned DLC before the base game is out. The best monetization model for player trust is to not lock features behind a pay wall if the base game has a price tag. The only time a priced DLC for this is okay if it's almost an entirely new game's worth of content. That is for when Devs realize it's better to make an expansion rather than a second game. Game Development is not charity, it should not be a place to lower standards, however.

I don’t care much for story in Space Engineers. I don’t mind it being there, but I just don’t care for it, like the “story” in Minecraft.

I put the game+DLC on my whishlist steam for christmas incase someone want to buy it for me Regarding the campaign versus multiplayer order of arrival I which the campaign could be the first thing I experience on the survival part of the game so I guess either campaign first or both at the same time

thumbs up if you preordered like I just did 👍👍

Dude they didn't release any information on the new planets other then some rather basic names and what they might be like type wise. So not sure where you got your information from.
