🌈 Feeling this and have been considering a no buy, limited screen time too. I gave up drinking 3 months ago but Ive taken up avoidance. When I spend more time shopping for decks and watching others using them, I am neglecting my emotions and spirit.

I have 13 mos sober. So many ppl in recovery will replace their addiction with shopping and rationalize it by saying it’s okay bc it’s not using. But it’s not really dealing with the issue of addiction. This isn’t easy and it is easy to start shopping, which the retail industry loves. But it’s better to not buy stuff you don’t love. I’ve overspent on decks but now am trying to off load a bunch. There’s no perfect way to heal but it’s good to recognize our own issues. ❤️ keep it up!

Yes. Your pancreas will love you ❤. I only make a rule buy two Kickstarter tarot decks at a time. They take forever in coming. Sometimes over a year so I find that works for me. I also don’t buy now with FOMO -

Right?! I've purchased 1 deck per month this year. One was the seasons of the witch pre-order and the other was a kickstarter of a friend. I'm not shopping and I'm just reading. It feels great!

I'm feeling much the same way. I bought a ton of decks this year and now I'm overwhelmed because part of me is like "oooh shiny, aesthetics, pairings, oh my!" and the other part is like "yeah but swimming in new decks makes for shallow readings." I have this urge to purge a bunch of decks, but I think I'm just going to pack most of them away for now so I have to make the effort to incorporate and get to know a new deck instead of being tempted with the allure of always shuffling in something new.

I know exactly what you mean. I am in exactly the same situation. Tarot was what got me through the pandemic. But now I am in an obsessive spiral of acquisition. I'm planning to do a Depth year next year. I'm stuck at home, may as well use the time. That is an excellent observation -- we're spending time browsing more decks that we could be spending with our actual decks. We could make a sigil out of that. Or a mantra.

Very much resonate with this. Been in the Tarot community for 3 months and have already accumulated 30 plus decks! Have you noticed some of the bigger channels are very consumer pushing? Their main content is Unboxing videos. I feel like the community has at some point been infected by collecto maniacs and it is spreading and fast. One of the channels I noticed, started off doing reading videos and lives and then ended up just doing Unboxings only and now is going back to doing readings. It is very important to note, that those channels get paid for reviewing decks. They get sent them for free and then we generate them money by watching the unboxing videos. I fell into the trap. Meanwhile, those unboxing channels are having a good laugh knowing we will go out and buy it while they await their next free deck.

I only review the decks I have worked with. I feel frustrated that more people aren't into watching videos about USING the cards as they are into looking for another deck! Lol I had my year of deck buying. Now I'm focused on living vibrantly and using what I have. Thanks for stopping by!

And that, my dear, is why monks, mystics, and wise women lived in caves or monasteries. The first deck I ever got was Tarot of the Cat People. It's old and tattered now, and I still love it. Thank you for sharing your angst, I feel the sincerity of your struggle. I keep my decks in a box and just get out one Tarot and one Oracle at a time. For me that works very well. Again, for me, I can get lost in the beauty of the cards and forget that I got them to help me connect to Spirit. Good luck with your break from buying. The cat people was the first deck someone bought for me. Until then, is had one tatty deck passed down by family. Still have them both. I do have other decks but use very few. The Arthurian,the greenwood, and the wildwood I'm not saying I haven't played around with others but I always go back to my favourites!

I just filmed a Deck Overwhelm video a few weeks ago. I culled half of my collection. I feel scattered, anxious and just directionless. I identify with your sentiment about not getting joy out of your decks and really wanting to connect with them. 🌈 I resonated with everything you said and these are thoughts I've been having as well -- including focusing on The Hermit/Virgo energy and the shorter days to come. I am also a Sagittarius moon (and a Virgo sun) and I've been thinking about all of this too. The Jupiter energy on the moon sign is very prone to that "hunting" feeling you mentioned, as well as burnout in general. Jupiter is expansive, massive--it thinks it can have everything, and it wants everything. This can be great, and can make this moon sign optimistic and motivated, but can also lead to MAJOR burnout and stimulation seeking. So, I'm there with you!

I definitely feel you on this topic! The struggle is real. One of the things I think about often is am I missing out on a richer relationship with Tarot due to the challenges of quantity? Is this something I should be worrying about or am I overthinking? I am not yet sure what it is going to look like, but I am seriously thinking about a 2023 depth year with one Tarot deck and one Oracle deck. I really want to know what that experience feels like, a more minimalist experience. And the only way I will know is by doing it. So I really am considering this. An experiment. For myself. I was journaling yesterday about how I intend to stop buying and go way deeper into all the ways I can work with and experience the many tarot decks I have, especially within my magical practice which is being reinvigorated consciously. 🥰 Also, yes … I got the Tarot of the Cat People over 25 years ago; along with the Shapeshifter Tarot and Old Path, they were the only three tarot decks I had until last year (along with my beloved SoulCards that I’ve been using for 20 years or so) - and I ADORE my Cat People tarot, now more than ever! Im surprised, actually, at how much I still enjoy its energy even among the variety of 50+ decks I’ve acquired during the past year - they are definitely my Spirit Guides on a level unique from a few other recent decks. This has been a recent conversation in the KZbin sphere, so I encouraged myself to finally watch your videos on the subject. They’ve been in my Watch list for a while now. I love everything you have to say here, and I can totally relate, especially with the searching. When I first started reading the cards 14ish years ago I didn’t really know about Tarot internet spaces. Aeclectic existed, but I didn’t spend very much time there. I had one deck for over two years. Then I lost a card and bought another deck, which I thought very long and hard about doing because money was tight. I never felt like I needed more than that, and my relationship to Tarot was rich and deep. I didn’t really start acquiring until I had already been reading for five years. And even then it was at a very slow rate. I don’t know what’s happened to change all of that in the past four or five years, but the inundation of searching and bringing in is overwhelming. I wish I could go back to the days when all of my decks could fit into one small basket because I miss just being able to enjoy reading cards. I’ve thought about pulling a select few and boxing everything else up for a while to observe if that frantic searching dies down. This is such a multi-layered topic that is so different for everybody. Thank you for sharing your experience and giving lots of food for thought.

I sometimes thank secretly to sellers for not shipping to Europe so there's no making mind if I should buy or not... Stolen child is one of them, or the Lua Tarot. I have ordered quite a few decks this year which I regret none of them but I've come to the conclusion to not buy any ones until I kept up with the ones I have and love. I'm currently waiting for one last deck to arrive in fall, it's from Spain 😁 the cosmic cycles tarot. I do love tags where it is all about "finding something in the decks you have", like the good mood decks, the favorite majors, tarot to the extreme, or any other topic coming up in your mind. Tasks like this make me work in different ways with my decks instead of "only" reading the cards. Right now I want to find out about virgo energy in my decks for example. Up to your unworked decks, I have the intuitive night goddess and I love to work with it. I often use it for a "night" card. But it gives great readings in general. It is very direct but in a soft way.

Don’t worry I fell under the spell ofTriomphi Della Luna - I too have 4 colors, and both illustrated versions (ugh - why!, the shipping was horribly expensive and it’s not even that far away from me). This year I set myself a deck goal (guideline) : 12 tarot decks I’m already at 12 and considering 13 - but it’s definitely a big improvement. Great video 🌈

I have some decks I haven’t really looked at since I purchased them because I overspent and have a glut of decks. I really don’t want to get rid of any either. I became a junkie too. 🌈 🐈 I have the Textured Tarot and absolutely love it I havent spent enough time going really deep with it, but it feels like coming home... it reads so well intuitively... I'm sure you'll love it. It feels gentle but honest when you need it, is wonderfully inclusive... esp age and body diversity which I appreciate as some decks feel too "young" for me. And yes, I have also felt overwhelmed after trying a low/no buy year for 2023...I failed, but also ended up with a couple of OOP decks I thought I'd never be lucky enough to own...so kind of a back handed win.. but its time to stop, recheck and really embrace that more spiritual side that when my path is true is so very natural. so many beautiful and fabulous decks. i relate to all you are saying very well. i see a deck here on tarot tube and want it so bad it is like a physical hunger. and then i get it, and i love it, but, i don't even read for other people, and i don't try to predict any future, ... i just love the artwork so much, and how the image portrays the meaning... and now, my landlord is selling my house, so i have to move, i know not where yet, someplace far from here maybe, and i am packing all these decks, wanting to spend so much more time with them, but how many totally best friends can a person have? i don't know the answer at all.

I just put myself on a no tarot/ oracle purchase for a year. I’m waiting on the Sacred Veil and the Devas from Cilla Conway. Those will be my final deck purchases for that time. I realized I love watching flip through videos because I love the art. The SVT and Devas will bring me to 23 decks (tarot and oracle) it’s small compared to some but it’s more than enough for me (no judgement!) but I’m right there with you. I’m studying my Voyager this month and am chomping at the bit for my two new decks coming. I love comparing the styles of the different decks. I feel the cards need to be used like guitars must be played. (I have four currently-no new ones for a while). I too love Virgo season to get my crap together. It’s funny that we’re going these thoughts simultaneously. April, you’re great and I adore your videos and outlooks. Looking forward to going through the Thoth system with you. AC Thoth is my main and favorite since I was 18. There is always something new to learn. Love you, girl!!!

🌈🌈🌈 thank you for being transparent and honest. If a notification pops up for one of you videos I try to watch and participate. I know for a channel to be successful views and watch time is important. So, as always I am here to support. Screen time is definitely important. I have actually been culling channels. I haven’t necessarily unsubscribed but have turned off notifications. I would LOVE to have conversations! Being mostly a novice to tarot it would be great to get to interact with others. It’s that fear of failure thing for me that keeps me from moving forward. I do have one suggestion. Maybe exploring the Witchery will ignite something for you and pull you away from Tarot a little? Ive been feeling much the same way, I've bought and been given so many great decks in the last year that i can't do many of them any real justice and that has left me feeling vaguely anxious and uncomfortable. Its also distracted me away from what i love about tarot which is real contemplative study and readings. I could easily read with one or two decks most of the time but its impossible to resist the artwork of some decks 🤷‍♀️ Thankfully i haven't spent too much on Indie decks so far and will be very discerning about those. Im committed to cutting back until ive caught up with what i already have 😌 I think with fuel bills going up another 80% this autumn in the UK i wont have much choice 😕

If someone were to ask me, 'How do I get started with Tarot?' My reply would be, 'First, go on a nature walk and just connect with Spirit and Nature and Your Inner Self.' Not all Tarot and Oracle decks speak to me and I question myself, 'Am I being 'narrow-minded' or am I being 'me'? For example, I love flowers, herbs and trees but although I care about animals, I am not an 'animal lover' so my decks reflect my interest in gardening. My budget is limited in spending on decks and so, I realize this helps me to establish boundaries and only buy what decks really speak to me, which is helping me stay grounded (I love digging in dirt in my garden :) as I try not to get overwhelmed in the Tarot world.

I have about a dozen decks that I have not had time to study or even bond with. I am seriously considering a buying moratorium and dedicate a month of deep study with each deck. The problem is Tarotube introducing and seriously touting the hottest new deck. Remember the "Saucy Burrito" deck? Last year everyone was crushing on this deck. Now all anyone is talking about is The Nameless One. I did not purchase either but after the third video about a deck, you start looking for reasons to buy. The thought process being, this is a reader who I like and respect telling me this is good, so there is something I am not seeing. I have realized that this is not always the case.

I have 4 tarot decks and about 4 more in my wishlist 😩 and here I thought I was overdoing it . Yet I use my 4 decks light seers deck for shadow work white numen for personal growth and self care cosmic slumber for dream interpretations and my traditional deck for studying and practicing. I think I keep adding to my wishlist because of the beautiful art on these decks and how they draw me in. But I agree I need to let go of the tarot decks and collect oracles instead sense i only have 3 😂😂 how many oracles you recommend as a limit?

As many as are not serving the same purpose. Honestly, oracle decks are getting SO great. But I feel like your relationships are so wonderfully intimate with your Tarot, that you will create that with your Oracles as well. My Before You Buy series has a lot of oracles to look at.

I understand and I am feeling a little the same. I don't think I will have a no buy year but..... I will be getting to know the decks I have. I was feeling a little overwhelm. then I watched someone on YT who would listed all her decks and number them. Then she would pick two numbers one from Tarot and One from Oracle. And got some odd pairs. some she found to be wow. I wish I could remember where I saw this. so I did this, I wrote a list of all my tarot then a list of all my oracle. then i wrote all the numbers out and picked two number. It is going to be my this year goal to get to know the decks I have. I have pulled two decks that I would never have thought would go together and I got my own wow they are great and I have the new combinations this replaces the buzz I get from my new decks. If you are interested I got Tarot of the Divine- Cirro Marchetti. Oracle is IChing- Klaus Holitzka. They are a stunning duo I would never thought. As for the Tarot tube watching, I have my remedy for this is Journaling, the advice I am given from my favourite Tarot Tube. This is amazing I write what they are teaching me and which channel so I know where I can look it up again and then my thoughts on what they are teaching me. Oh the Somnia tarot is one of my later in the year buy ☺

Spiritual emergency 🚨 😱😃. I feel you. I told myself to stop buying anything that I no longer need. And go within. Recently, I got distracted and bought so many cards again. Now, I’m surrounded with JOY again and living intentionally instead of get sucked into the consumerism vortex. May we all feel everything without resisting. Or judge ourselves when our inner child are going nuts to shop. Reparenting our inner kiddo is important. So I have an emergency meeting with my inner child and highest self/adult to discuss and choose wisely. Permission to feel guilty, shame, and fear. All the emotions so that the resistance won’t be as strong. That’s okay. Compassion is key. You got this! What do you want to focus on now and embody this year? I’m going on a a NO BUY for decks in the next few months. I’ve already bought 20-30 decks since last year. I had one deck for 25 years then... Well, I'm up to 35. I am enamored with the art work. I have gotten 'sets' that I truly love and have curbed my buying too. Time to get to know the ones I got & enjoy the process. Good On You ~ You Got This!
