Big Sur CA Condors ~ A Hummingbird Visits The Condor Chick

A beautiful hummingbird (it looks like a female Anna Hummingbird) comes to pay a visit to the condor chick!! The little hummer is curious and flies around #1031 for a few seconds before departing. The hummers will be able to take small pieces of fuzz, feathers and twigs to build their own nests while visiting the nest cavities of raptors such as condors and hawks. In real time and super slomo! Parents are #167 Kingpin ~ 23 years old & Redwood Queen #190~ 22 years old. The chick hatched on April 25th 2020. This nest is located inside a coast redwood snag in Big Sur, California. The nest area is about 5 feet in diameter and is situated 60 feet above the ground. Due to the massive size of the tree, scientists believe it could be over 1000 years old!

I am thinking that this isn't where you wanted it to be?? I noticed that the same thing happened to a few others on YT, just in the last two or so days. Then, it just happened to me, as well. I would not have known it, but, the videographer responded to my comment and that's when I saw it was in the wrong place. OMGosh how precious first that the baby condor is sleeping like it doesn't have a worry in the world(dreaming of food😁) & that it is so comfortable, it looks like it could just sleep forever. The hummingbird is so tiny compared to #1031. You say the hummingbird will use #1031's downy fluff, also twigs etc for their nesting, nothing is wasted in nature. Thank you Lady Hawk for all that you do.

Lady Hawk ..I didn’t know what kind of Hummers attended the nectar feeders and you announced the name “Anna” and I have a few of them..What I’ve named the Hummers is “Lilla Pippan” melanins ”Small Bird”..Other birds like the Trashers are named LaVerne if boy or girl doesn’t matter..Mourning Doves are named Bonnie and Clyde..Lesser Finches are named Yellow Belly...and one other kind stopping by is named Oscar, but can’t remember what kind he is at the moment..There you have my name callings😄

I have a lot of Anna hummingbirds here and also Ruby throated & Rufous hummingbirds! One of my favorite birding trips was to Madera Canyon south of Tucson where they have some of the best birding and hummers seen! There are 15 species of hummingbirds that can be spotted there!

Lady Hawk ..It’s easier to remember the name you give than coming up with the name of a bird😊..If I say Oscar just dropped in, then hubby knows whom I’m talking about..he is so lost when it comes to human names, but you mention a car and he knows everything under that hood by part numbers..go figure❣️ I have hummers with red around the throat and it could be the one you mentioned and then I have a couple of gray little things. This season I have had more Hummers than ever and it could be I serve frozen nectar topped off with cold nectar and they sit and drink for the longest time..and they are a joy to watch😊 Any bird is a joy to watch and I have two sanctuaries for them and they are in my view from my favorite chairs..You take care LH..❤️❤️

And I thought the hummer was attracted to the "sweet nectar" scents of a condor nest. lol Yes, the nesting material makes more sense than the scents. The hesitant reaction from the chick is funny. The "down" on the chick looks like some of those vests John Phillips wore on stage with the Mamas and Papas. I cranked up the audio with my DAW and heard what sounds like an adult Bald Eagle and a related eaglet with a voice younger than Romy at NEFL, but maybe older than E15 in SWFL. I use a digital compressor and limiter so the cranked up audio doesn't blow out my monitor speakers.
