2:15 these features, like heated steering wheels and seats, have always existed. Even in the 40s and 50s most cars had options, or upgrades, that you had to pay to get. These include special paints, leather seats... Car options are nothing new. Otherwise the rest of the video is accurate and the changes are very interesting to note.

I think a major aspect of sharing is power. For example, people don’t worry so much about public transport as they have some political power to affect its operations. However, big tech is privately owned and companies trap users in separate platforms. I think an interesting approach would be to make cloud services (such as storage or email) a utility, like WiFi or electricity. This way users would actually *own* their data and see if Google, for instance, stores tracking information through Gmail. This would be quite difficult to implement but worth it IMO.

I'll offer slightly different perspective than the one in video. Though brace yourself as it's quite lengthy one 😅 So is it about owning a thing or rather experiencing that thing (with a reasonable price)? Games, music or movies are i think foremost to be experienced and not owned. That's where a majority of it's value is in my opinion - that is when the price is right. I'll give an example: there is an EA Play gaming subscription that costs a little less than 20$ yearly. You get access to over 100 games. Maybe on multiplayer games that someone plans to play for long it may not be worth it but if someone wants to play their single player games, it's such a good deal. You could buy maybe 3 of their games and on fat, fat discount for 20$. For physical copies it could be down to 2 games, cause of delivery and manufacturing of components. I play ~3 hours daily and chew through many single player games a year. I personally would much rather experience 30 games through subscription, rather than 3 or 2 through digital / physical buy. Even if i would resubscribe to experience these games, it still would be a better deal. Now on the other hand there are caveats to subscriptions too. The ones i think about are not entertainment experiences but rather basic necessities, like home or car ownership. Here the price is astronomical and I'd say it would be better to own even a small, good enough house or apartment than to rent. Sadly housing market is so fking pricy. The monopolization and data gathering are also different topics for a different time. These may be dependent on person views (i don't care much about data thing) and the company itself - is it great or not so great? I believe in Steam as game distribution platform and it never disappointed me.

@@vertical5044 I feel the same way as you. I'm just glad you were here first to explain it all 😂This video really leans into the doom and gloom of it all, but the main reason it's successful is because of convenience. The problems in this video are only problems if you care about these things, and most people don't. Anyone with a brain would know to subscribe to services that bring you temporary enjoyment, but buy the things that you want to keep forever. Like you mentioned, only housing and maybe vehicles are the problem areas.

@@pa5666 Yeah the video kind of focuses on one side and few aspects of that side, which is far away from complete picture. But then if the creator were to post 2 hours long videos taking everything into consideration, then it wouldn't fit the current audience most likely. A simple remedy would perhaps be a disclaimer at the start and end about how this video shows a part of perspective, not the whole and so it should be taken into consideration. Otherwise it may create sort of ''echo chamber'' of information, where we hyperfocus on one side and think that this is everything to explore in this topic. Perhaps creator has certain political views that seep into the videos or perhaps he plays too strong into wording and imaging of video. Even if creator plays the YT game, It still kinda comes out too strong in my opinion.

Shared ownership is not in and of itself an issue, however it is antithetical to a capitalist society. If we all share all the cars that exist then yes, you can borrow a car whenever you need one, and hand it back in to someone who's job is to maintain the cars when you're not using it. However, if you're leasing it from someone who's goal is to profit off lending it to you, then there is no benefit to them in giving you a good option for every situation. They instead only need to provide the minimum to maintain a customer base, and can demand more as the alternatives disappear. Take a look at some stuff about library economies

Last year I was working 44 hours/week had signed for gamepass, Amazon prime Crunchyroll and Spotify, I had little over 4 hours a day and one free day a week to have some fun. I never felt like there were good deals, then I got fired in December. I cancelled prime video. Crunchyroll and Spotify, I still have 6 months of game pass. I figured going back to the old days was the best, I got anything I wanted to watch or listen for free, the difference between getting them from free and paying is none, because in the end you don't own any of it, at least the "free" version you can store on a hardrive and play whenever you want. Used to play a lot on unlocked consoles. Would buy games not even knowing they were original games. Gaming on PC is the best. O do like the Xbox and the gamepass, its a great value, but having a PS2 or PS3 unlocked to download anything you want is something else. I feel dumb now that I bought digital games on the Xbox, payed the same price as a phisical copy and it will probably only stay with me for 10-20 years. I believe we can have digital copies on the Blockchain. Soo each copy is unique and could be sold to others. This is where the future is for me. You own things but digitally.

@@timothygooding9544 idk about this, what I know is that you can creat like 10 million copies of a game and sell them for 30$ if it's a bad game or 60$ if it is a AAA, having the source code would get people to easily break the game and give it for free to others, they would never do it. They also don't want a block chain system. Because it limits for them how much they can make. Here my idea. You get a Blockchain, buy the game, you own it. Can donwload anytime, the licensing is bullshit because you have paid for it. If they ever remove it from availability they will be force to release the source code and make the game free for each and everyone to access. Before it get free for all. You should be able to sell your property to other, just like a phisical copy.
@timothygooding9544
@timothygooding9544 2 жыл бұрын
@@goldenplayer4966 the source code bit was a little extreme on my part but the point is that it's still always dependent on something outside of yourself. The Blockchain, the promise to release a game fully when it's no longer offered, none of that is guaranteed or guaranteeable. A physical product is owned by you because outside of recent inventions like internet-connected software, the company no longer has any control over a product after it leaves them, meaning you can do what you want with it and they cannot intervene, not because of rules they promised but because they would have to physically steal it to have control again. I'm not too sure on the topic but I'm pretty sure that games that fully run without needing an internet connection do so by the full source code being on your computer, even if you don't have the tools to open/edit it or if it's encrypted in some way.

Good video. For several years now I've saved countless dollars not going to the theater, pirating EVERYTHING, P2P servers, online content like Aperture and exhibiting the patience to only purchase games during significant sales. The cost of home entertainment though not being nothing is without question the lowest it's ever been. Even shared access to A Prime grants me so many free premium audiobooks a month, providing more hours of listening experience than I have to give in a month. I pay for internet; that's it basically. PC culture is the most cost efficient means of entertainment accessibility without question.

Regarding pirating video games, what if you really want to download one that requires internet but you can’t play it because you’re not subscribed to an official server account? That’s an additional concern I have about owning software and I really hope we as pirates can do something about it in the future like how we’re always staying one step ahead of government censorship as it is.

I currently watch about 10 different series, pretty much every new movie that comes out too and I have 0 subscriptions to any service. I get all of my stuff from one site which I will not disclose, but as long as that site exists, I see no reason to pay to be granted permission to watch stuff. Besides, since I download everything, I have over 2TB of movies and series on my drive and I can safely keep it there for a long, LONG time! The money that I would spend will be for new HDD's with more space so I can keep doing that. Games on the other hand.. I do have probably the majority of games on services like Steam, Epic Games, Ubisoft, etc... but there are certain games that I can get for free and keep them stored on my PC as well. Even if I have paid to play them, I would still pirate those just so I know I have them available to me whenever I want. Great video anyways, but I dont think any of this will apply to me anytime soon as long as piracy is still a thing. I also dont believe anyone can essentially stop it so... yeah.

Liked the video , Im happy that the things we all need to be talking are being talked about but with less views. Lots of people need to watch this. I like the digital idea , but not owning them or getting your media removed , unavailable or " unreachable " because of reasons is very nasty. Yeah CDS will damage over time, casette will too but I loved collecting them. One more issue is , the world is much easier and fun. Dont need to buy outside stuff and stock doesnt run out . Same with privacy or microtransaction , the reason they exist/non exists is because majority of people don't care about it . Like someone said in a gaming video that new gamers will be born will the idea that microtransaction and gambling ( lootbox ) is normal in gaming .. , same with new future people who have no access to old way of owning things who think that " this is normal " ... It's sad and the only thing I can do is shut up until I find the right time to speak , just like now I know some of you care about this but just dont say , same as because to find the right place and time to speak about it when majority of people can know this issue..

The problem here is it isn't just with entertainment it is also with just software, they don't offer perpetual licenses any more for instance Autodesk 2 years ago stopped supporting any of their perpetual software wich is anything 2014 and earlier same with adobe they want you to spend money on a subscription now you don't own the software anymore even tho you payed for it. if I own a legal copy of 3ds max 2012 for instance they won't let me activate it normally so I crack the activation will I get in trouble? Dose it count as a illegal copy? I have a license key for it do I still own it? Can I still use it for commercial use? Is it considered abandon ware?Autodesk says I can use it as long as I want if I own a perpetual copy but since they don't offer new activations It is in a grey area, adobe at least still let's you activate older versions of Photoshop at least.

Then here is the problem for movies music and games what if for say valve had to shut down what happens to the trillions of dollars of digital games people payed for they will no longer have access to it anymore. this is why I have spent years finding physical copy's of games I love to play and made digital backups and have alternatives on installing them and play them. A very good example is battlefield 2142, people payed money for this game GameSpy shut down their service witch made the game unplayable online mp because of that ea shut down the login service no a $50 game I payed for is now useless can install it but can't even play offline modes
