Remember this, the more members a conference has, the more the revenue is DIVIDED among the members. Not to mention the difficulty in retaining yearly rivalries (which the Big "18" is already botching for some universities). This is basically how the Mountain West was formed in 1999. Disgruntled Western Athletic Conference members (the GOOD half) upset with the overexpansion to 16 with a division alignment (back when divisions were required to stage a championship game) where four teams swaps divisions with four teams from the opposite division every two years! Don't kid yourself if you think the Big "can't count past" 10 and SEC is immune to what happened to the WAC! Texas A&M is quite upset with the SEC allowing the Longhorns to follow them into the SEC, and sooner or later, the Ohio State's and Alabama's are going to get sick and tired of subsidizing the Rutgers' and Vanderbilts of the world! And don't forget, the idiot networks will eventually be strapped for cash resulting in LESS money for the schools.

You have to take into account that the Big Noon time slot is the most valuable time slot in college football due to it having the most eyeballs in the Central and Eastern timezones. Oregon and the rest of the other west coast B1G teams are guaranteed to NOT play in that time slot by contract due to it's 9am kickoff on the west coast, putting these teams at an inherent disadvantage when it comes to TV ratings. That inhrerent decreased TV value is in fact the root of why the Pac 12 fell apart in the first place. Also, Colorado's TV value is extremely inflated currently due to Deion Sanders and is not sustainable once he leaves. As a brand they aren't worth it for the B1G longterm even if they look attractive right now. And, yes, I completely agree that Florida State and Miami should be the B1G's top targets from the ACC footprint for many reasons.

Meaning sometimes when Oregon is playing a school, they are not the TV draw but their opponent is. Oregon is not overvalued. @robertofraire4102 You can say that. But with this tv contract, the Big 10 will probably get 110 million dollar payouts by the end of it. You're possibly looking at 130-160 million payouts in the mid 2030's. The SEC will be around that as well. If those schools get to those numbers. Who is gonna pay Notre Dame 70-85 million a year for 6 games? It's kinda a fact that Notre Dame has to hit a lot of bench marks to hit the the high end money numbers they have in their new deal now. And the facts are we still have no clue what college sports looks like with the salary cap. I know Notre Dame wants to be independent. But you're asking a whole lot, assuming it's just gonna happen. This is a new horizon in college sports. You should prepare yourself today for what may change tomorrow. Expecting your donors to pay more and more and a tv network to pay more and more so you can stay independent. Nobody owes Notre Dame that. College sports is gonna start costing way too much. And the cost will not come down ever again.
@lorenzohaynes388613 күн бұрын
@robertofraire4102 It may be a good idea for you to look up Nick Sabans' interview where he talks about donor fatigue. Costs and student athlete's financial demands are going up. Donors are getting sick of answering the phones, shelling out 4 million for players that will leave in 16 weeks. I know the talk is always about tv contracts. But this model is not sustainable. It's less sustainable for a school that's independent. College athletics has a new model. Pay attention.

Stanford and Cal are AAU, but they'll never be invited to protect USC/UCLA. And Stanford's enrollment numbers are very small. Smaller than Northwestern. Notre Dame is AAU and the B1G have been after them since 1899 but ND didn't show up to that initial meeting in 1899. ND is in the B1G Hockey league. Watch a lot of their hockey matches on the Big Ten Network. Miami is AAU, Clemson isn't. No go on Clemson. I doubt Miami would be invited. Small university enrollment when compared to the rest of the league. It would be like adding another Northwestern. Numbers matter. And Miami is a private university. University of South Florida is doing a lot of work on their facilities and they're AAU. Their enrollment is on par with USC. Good numbers there, and it would be a foothold in Florida. I do think Georgia Tech--an AAU school--could land an invite. Atlanta is a big tv market and would add a presence for the B1G in the south. But I doubt the B1G will extend an invitation to USF. I think we'll stand pat and still lust after Notre Dame.

And that wasn’t just a regular media rights deal, LHN was separate and longer co tract. Fox does share with ESPN on B12. The other deals will cycle unlike LHN deal. They said them first but that's a dance that's been going on for 100 yrs, ND wants independence as far as their football scheduling and to negotiate their own tv contract while the charter members want them to conform into the league. But these guys are lost, big 10.wants nothing to do.with Colorado or Texas A&M or FSU they would snatch up Duke in heartbeat but that means You have to take UNC too ,I could see that, and they want a Florida market and Miami would be it probably with Kansas

The B1G MUST go to 4 bods of 5 schools. Which demands that 2 more schools must be added. Bringing in the right two schools with the power schools distributed through the 4 pods will fix this issue.

Texas A&M hates Texas OFF field! Florida State has no AAU! Colorado would be morons to go to a conference with few western teams. Miami Hurricanes with their AAU membership makes them a high probability. ACC ain't getting a better TV deal from those piece of Sal--Hal-Ingrid-Tom networks!

@paulvarnell12 күн бұрын
Breaking up Texas and Texas A&M again would be one of the worst travesties in CFB in decades. This doesn't just apply to football but baseball, basketball, and all other sports. The B1G shouldn't add anyone unless there is already built in rivalries for the new team. That is what the sport is built on. Not some NFL style league where geography means nothing.
@psychopathyoutubeemployees2808 күн бұрын
Blame Texas for being Alice-Sal-Sam-Harry-Otto-Lisa-Ed-Steve! That's why A&M, Nebraska, Missouri, Colorado and Arkansas left in the first place. See the reversed penalty call in the first Georgia game. To be fair, NFL DIVISIONAL rivalries are (mostly) geographical, and there are some pretty big ones there too (the usual Bay Area vs. Hollywood, Wisconsin vs. Illinois and Philadelphia vs. New York vs. Boston rivalries). Anyway, the overbloated conferences are going to implode anyway (eventually) like what happened to the Western Athletic Conference in 1999. Splitting the money pie multiple ways will be what ends this coast-to-coast nonsense!
@paulvarnell8 күн бұрын
@@psychopathyoutubeemployees280 Having Texas, Oklahoma, Texas A&M, Arkansas, Missouri, and LSU all in the same conference is as geographically tight as you could hope for. So I actually like that move. I hate how the NFL splits up so many local teams: Houston AFC Dallas NFL NY Giants NFC NY Jets AFC LA Chargers AFC LA Rams NFC this ruins many would be great in-state NFL rivalries. Don't want the B1G to cause the same issue in CFB.
@psychopathyoutubeemployees2808 күн бұрын
@@paulvarnell - The SEC is smart (for now) in not expanding beyond their borders (though Oklahoma, Texas and A&M are pushing it), but you are naive if you think Texas-Austin is NOT going to ruin/destroy the SEC the same way they did to the Big 12 and Southwest! And the reason the NFL is like that is because ALL of the AFL teams survived the merger, and the AFL teams wanted to keep their coast-to-coast interdivisional rivalries with each other (Raiders vs. Jets etc.). In other words, the Super Bowl is basically "AFL" vs. "NFL" Same with MLB too. Of course, the MLB finally figured out how to pull off a round-robin schedule recently with a pain in the rear 162 game schedule. I will say this, the NFL is blowing the opportunity to do yearly interconference rivalries now that they have the 17 game season. It could be something like this: L.A. Rams vs. L.A. Chargers Dallas vs. Houston Chicago vs. Indianapolis (right next door to each other, state and metro wise) Detroit vs. Cleveland (see above) Philadelphia vs. Pittsburgh N.Y. Giants vs. N.Y. Jets Washington vs. Baltimore Since the rest is so spread out in many combinations, I'd probably rotate in these groups: San Jose/Seattle/Arizona vs. Las Vegas/Denver/Kansas City Minnesota/Green Bay vs. Tennessee/Cincinnati New Orleans/Tampa Bay vs. Jacksonville/Miami Atlanta/Charlotte vs. Buffalo/New England You are lucky that the ABA and WHA were poorly runned leagues to the point only four teams per league survived the "merger" with the NBA and NHL respectively, and thus why it's geographical instead of spread-out.
@paulvarnell8 күн бұрын
@@psychopathyoutubeemployees280 Makes sense. Yeah it's not like the NFL PLANNED to have teams in the same city in difference conferences. It just happened that way due to the merger of the AFL and NFL, like you mentioned. But you are right about the NFL dropping the ball about having teams like the Texans and Cowboys hardly ever play. No reason not to make that happen more often. There is more than enough games in a season.
@psychopathyoutubeemployees2807 күн бұрын
@@paulvarnell - Using an example from my opinions, and based on the opponents for next season, this is what the schedule could look like while also dealing with those neutral site games in the interest of fairness. Here's how a schedule currently works using the Rams 2025-26 as an example: Play an entire interconference division (vs. AFC South. Host Indianapolis and Houston, visit Tennessee and Jacksonville). Play an entire interdivisional division (vs. NFC South. Host New Orleans and Tampa Bay, visit Atlanta and Charlotte). Play two interdivisional opponents from the other two divisions based on strength of schedule (Host NFC North's Detroit, visits NFC East's Philadelphia). Play a fifth interconference opponent based on strength of schedule from one of the three remaining divisions (AFC North's Baltimore). Home-and-home against the three division rivals (San Jose, Seattle and Arizona of the NFC West) Since some interconference rivalries would happen twice on years when that team is playing their rivals division, you'd have to schedule carefully in order to keep the location rotation in tact. For example, Cleveland is scheduled to visit Detroit next season as they played in Cleveland in 2021. That means the 5th interconference match-up would have to be Detroit@Cleveland for both of them. With the neutral site games being one of the two interdivisional match-ups based on strength of schedule, SOS would have to be thrown out since Cleveland would have to be a home sacrifice while Detroit would be a designated road team in a neutral site game in the interest of fairness. Obviously, no interconference rivalry (or game for that matter) should ever be played in a London or Wyoming etc. So based off of this, the match-ups would be as followed. *Interconference rivalries:* L.A. Chargers@L.A. Rams Denver@Arizona San Jose@Kansas City Seattle@Las Vegas Dallas@Houston N.Y. Giants@N.Y. Jets New Orleans@Jacksonville Pittsburgh@Philadelphia Baltimore@Washington Indianapolis@Chicago Tennessee@Minnesota Green Bay@Cincinnati Detroit@Cleveland Charlotte@Buffalo New England@Atlanta Miami@Tampa Bay For those neutral site games, the home teams listed above would sacrifice a home game against an interdivisional opponent from one of the two divisions you aren't playing all four of, and it'd be one of the visiting teams listed above. An example including neutral site locations could be, Detroit vs. L.A. Rams in London Green Bay vs. Arizona in Wyoming San Jose vs. Washington in Sao Paulo Seattle vs. Philadelphia in Halifax N.Y. Giants vs. Atlanta in Hawaii Dallas vs. Tampa Bay in Berlin New Orleans vs. Chicago in Memphis Charlotte vs. Minnesota in Norman Baltimore vs. Kansas City in Mexico City Pittsburgh vs. Las Vegas in London L.A. Chargers vs. Buffalo in Madrid Denver vs. N.Y. Jets in Canton (why not make the Hall of Fame Game have meaning?) Miami vs. Houston in Hawaii New England vs. Jacksonville in London Indianapolis vs. Cincinnati in Hawaii Tennessee vs. Cleveland in Louisville This leaves the remaining interdivisional match-ups like this. L.A. Rams@Dallas Arizona@N.Y. Giants Philadelphia@Charlotte Washington@New Orleans Tampa Bay@Detroit Atlanta@Green Bay Minnesota@Seattle Chicago@San Jose Kansas City@Miami Las Vegas@New England Buffalo@Indianapolis N.Y. Jets@Tennessee Houston@Baltimore Jacksonville@Pittsburgh Cincinnati@L.A. Chargers Cleveland@Denver Lots of brain power to set it all up, but it's worth it. Too bad the NFL owners and Goodell have the intelligence of a sign post when it comes to scheduling and booking (remember the cancelled Buffalo@Cincinnati fiasco from a couple of years ago?).

Keep in mind that number of viewers by itself means little. Who is doing the watching also matters. Advertisers could care less if millions of bubbas from rural south are tuned in to watch. They will cough out l a lot more for 200 thousands eyes from big cities. This is why even with large viewers Nebraska is not considered as valuable as Maryland.
