Remco is the complete package now with 4 years world tour "learning" behind him. He has just turned 23 has won plenty of one week stage races, classics, TTs he has a grand tour and the world's in his cabinet. Surely the next Eddie M?! There are no guarantees in a grandy though, excited.

Imo, Evenepoels TT performance nowadays is quite well into alltime best TT level, what a Tony Martin or Cancellara only could do in their prime. And evenepoel could climb with the best. He is a mini version of Jan Ulrich, but 100% committed, zero distractions and super motivated.

Evenepoel winning isn't surprising, but the way he does it, is! He destroys the competition, 43 seconds on Roglic, even 22 on Ganna. It's like you have Evenepoel, and then 20/30 seconds behind the rest fighting for a second place. Absolute class!

In a time trial the world champion jersey is worn by the time trial world champion. This is Tobias Foss, while Evenepoel is "only" Belgian champion.

I watched this on GCN plus. I didn't think much of the commentary (there wasn't one). Please a commentary, but not giggly, silly jokes Kirby. He'd be alright if he could avoid the silly jokes and giggling. Good result for Remco. Viva la Giro.

I must express my approval of the commentary team telling us more about the other things (such as castles and so on) as we pass, almost a throw back to the days of the very fine commentator, David Duffield. I always enjoyed his style. I've never been to Italy and not likely to now but it is enjoyable to see it and with the "tourist guide" bit. Thanks GCN for showing great racing and great scenery.

@@Edward-ry1jk it's certainly possible. There have been several high profile doping scandals in other sports recently, and that's only the ones you hear about. Innocent until proven guilty, but microdosing is so hard to detect if you do it right. There isn't an easy solution but it still shouldn't be normalized and shutting down the discussion by taking the high ground isn't helpful.

maybe this year it's a bit extreme, but often ITT's lead to more attacks from pure climbers in the mountains

How does it ruin it? It's called the race of truth for a reason, there's no hiding behind your team of domestiques, the strongest riders have to prove themselves on the day - which is how it should be. It also sets up future stages for more exciting and aggressive racing because the gaps are bigger and those who lost time have to make riskier, long-range attacks to climb up GC. When the GC is tight amongst the top-10 they all just wait until the final 1km of a mountain finish and sprint. That's way more dull to watch.

Yes, but it's taken at really small doses, at which it can clear your system very quickly (while you sleep) so that it's not detectable by the time the testing window opens. The blood markers just looks like you've been on an altitude camp.
