I remember watching the Ax Men tv show ages ago and seeing the trolley spew black smoke a good few times, does the trolley have a motor inside of it or is it something else?

yes it has a small diesel motor that runs the winch

How does a guy figure out what cable to use to build something like this? I went to a log building school where the teacher used a skyline above his log yard with a trolley and winch on it to move logs around. I want to build something similar but on a smaller scale to build my own projects with
@DanielBoonesloggingvideos11 ай бұрын
all depends on how much weight you want to lift and move . if the log is doug fir 18" diameter 26 feet long weight is roughly 500-700 lbs then you know what kind of snatch blocks,cable and pulleys to buy. the big one is weight of the cable being used and breaking strength, factor in length, of your standing line and its weight per foot when choosing line size for its breaking strength. I hope this helps

For someone trying to start their own Business, would you suggest a tower cite for their first time owning a business or a shovel logging cite ? Just wondering because I might try and start my own logging business when I get older. And sick video, just wish it was longer.

And I live in SW Washington
@DanielBoonesloggingvideos4 жыл бұрын
that is a bit complicated to answer. There are alot of overhead costs with a towerside that not many newcomers to the industry can handle, and 5-7 crewmembers , in as well, the money can be good for sure . groundbase logging isnt as good of a payout sometimes because you are expected to get more production but the overhead with men and equipment is not a big as witha tower. my advice would be to go and if you havent already done so start working as a choker setter on a tower side and work up through the ranks to get a rounded picture of what it takes to keep everything going. i did that back in 2004 and at the end of my logging career was running shovel processor or yarder. those years working from the ground up gave me the knowledge of what it takes to do every job and how to do it effeciently, also the confidence to strike out and start my own company. I hope this helps, thank you for watching my video and commenting, i did a longer tower drone vid awhile back you can check out that is a bit longer than this one in my drone vid playlist. cheers ~Daniel

Lol it’s funny what they come up with, I was just at a landing for a TY70 with 4 of the guy line stump were tethering machines and a D8 (yes 5, they added a 5th and did away with the 2-part guylines) lots of iron!
@briantuor12312 жыл бұрын
@@coltonlengyel7845 Unless it is engineered and approved by a mechanical engineer , eliminating the two part guyline on a tbird is a very dangerous thing to do. Adds forces to the tower that it was never designed for.

It would be fun to have a scale working model of a "big yarder". Big enough to be impressive small enough to load on a utility trailer.
