Still waiting for what I would consider to be a decent UK produced WCIPA. Huuuuge, thick, earthy malt backbone, then hopped to bejeesus and back with 'C' hops, a la Torpedo/Dale's Pale/Racer 5. I feel like most UK breweries forget the malt part when they have a go at west coasters, and I need more chinook in my life. Hopefully 2021 is the year of the (proper) WCIPA.

Fantastic Video! I really like the idea of the Imperial Stout focusing exclusively on the malts and brewing expertise. Sometimes when looking for beer, I feel dissapointed when adjuncts are used to bring in flavours when the traditional ingredients can do the job. The hype of the NEIPA has shown the crazy flavours pulled from hops (but I am happy to see the balancing of those flavours as seen in the video) so it will be great to see what the best use of malt can bring!

I'm really looking forward to something big at the weekend though now. I usually try for about 3 or 4 nights off over the weekdays and after 2 weeks of Chrimbly fun this first week is always the most tricky. I really hope more breweries take a non-adjunct approach with big stouts. I've found that with things like pastry stouts they make the flavour really dominant and you can argue it doesn't taste like beer at all. Definitely a mark of a good brewery is one that doesn't heavily rely on adjuncts to get the flavour they want. Loved the video, Wednesdays feel complete again! Cheers!
@TheCraftBeerChannel4 жыл бұрын
I am not sure it is the mark of a good brewery - there are some truly fantastic adjunct stouts - but using them to amp up flavours available in malt certainly is a shortcut...or a marketing thing.

Great Video, going to have to look out for that Plain Dark Beer! I think session-strength beers will be on the rise given the current working situation for many of us... But I'd love to see more fruit-infused pales that are a little more modest, I think of Cranachan Killer from Fierce with amazing Raspberry tartness, or Fruit Loop from Brass Castle giving (in my opinion) a well balanced blueberry flavour. I think they show a great example of using non-traditional adjuncts in a more balanced manner. But that's just my thoughts!

The issue with mixed ferm IPA is that hops are a preservative and stop the growth of the wild bacteria that makes a beer mixed ferm. So there are examples out there of hoppy wild ales, but they aren't really hoppy enough to be seen as IPAs - at least not in the modern world of NEIPA

Problem is there very cheap bottles of good beer to be had in that style like Pilsner Urquell for example. These craft versions will be overpriced for what they are unfortunately.

It's certainly true, but while I love PU, I think in bottle there are better lagers out there in the craft world.

@@TheCraftBeerChannel of course there’s better but justifying the price can be very difficult.

True, though that's increasingly the case for all styles. You can get Jaipur and Green Mountain for less than £1 in some places now, Punk has long been below £2. Gonna be a big problem for lots of mainstream styles going forward.

@@TheCraftBeerChannel in Ireland it’s particularly on the lager/pilsner side where things get cheap. I picked up a box of 20 bottles of budvar for €18 before Xmas. We don’t get the same deals on punk or other ipas that you do in the uk. Even our own Irish brews are over priced which is a real shame. Just means I and others home brew more.
