Mad Max. As for this video, I liked the analysis, and I liked the concept, but the accents were painful. Still, gotta try different things, right?
@filmjoy8 жыл бұрын
+MrCorvus0 [m] Yeah, I'll own it. Hopefully a few people see this (actually, like it so they do). The accents obviously came from a good place, insofar that, pulling the highbrow card on Big Trouble in Little China was hilarious to me ... and at the end of the day, this show only happens if I'm excited to continue making it. With every other episode I can record the script with little to no retakes. And up front, to the majority of my audience, the accents did not bother them. But, I basically ran through the script as I would any other. Herein lies the problem. The reason that accents don't jive with the audience right now is two-fold. 1) My performance is uneven and I attempted two accents, which I switched between on the fly. It's not because they 100% don't work, it's because they 30-40% don't work. Also I didn't contextually explain why I was switching between them (is it different people? Is it the narrator's real voice?) I went through the script once and said "sure, that'll do." Part of why MwM is able to even exist is because I can make it fast. I can't spend all day recording and re-recording lines to make sure I have perfection. If anything, the imperfection is what gives my show its charm. But I bit off more than I wanted to chew here. I mean, I'm a voice actor. I could have, you know, put a bit more effort in and actually made this work instead of just shipping a first take I knew wasn't good enough. So, there you go. I was lazy and it's biting me. I'm still

+Chainsawsuit Original I think it just confused/turned off some people who are maybe familiar with MWM but not your other work. This ep was super meta, which is going whiff for those people but a home run for those of us who have listened to you on podcasts and such. I really don't think the consistency of the accents was an issue. You do a different voice when you pull back from the narration in the regular eps, it makes total sense that your stuffy British narrator would too. Also, anyone who knows your work knows that you do not shy away from taking risks. That's always going to unsettle some youtube commenters. If they're not into it, then this isn't the show for them and that's fine. Don't let them change you.

A fun turn on the show for sure, I was impressed you kept the accent through the whole thing. As always an interesting piece on the film in question. Also, this is definitely a tough choice, I honestly weighed the options for a solid 20 minutes because I kept going back and forth. You always have something new to consider about the movie in question, which made me think Star Wars but the more people that see Ex Machina the better and Fury Road always can use an excuse for a rewatch. I think Ex Machina suits your more slowed down style with films that base themselves around one strong allegorical point. Ex Machina also seems to not have as much discussion around it in comparison to Mad Max and Star Wars, so I think your insight into the film would be quite refreshing and a good balance to your overall channel. Also, as someone who hates Big Trouble with a fiery burning passion but voted for it anyway in order to see what the heck I was missing, thank you for meeting it with equal absurdity that this film clearly dishes out.

I loved that you not only got that Jack Burton is the comically stupid sidekick who thinks he's the action hero (which is still better than many), but went deeper into _why_ he would think that, and why the _audience_ would think that, and what the movie is saying about all of that. Along with all the other tropes. My only disappointment was, in talking about how Jack Burton is a clueless buffoon, the line that sums that up most definitively and authoritatively was not used: *Lo Pan: You were not put upon this Earth to **_"get it,"_** Mr. Burton!*
