Robert G. said it best , you make it look easy. I live in N.J. and got my kayak for Round valley. Out 5 times and stillno trout. No fish finder either, hopefully soon but with or without I'll keep trying. Love your trout videos best.

It looks like you let the jig hit bottom, give it a couple jerks and then reel straight up? I can't wait to hook one of these fish, hopefully this year.

I had the same thing happen to me, I went and had to learn to fish in another place. The new place the bite was much harder to get. Them came back to go fishing the old grounds it amazed me how much of a better fisherman I had became.

Enjoyed watching your video once again. You definitly make it look easy, but how do u get your depth for lakers, u let it hit bottom then reel it up a little?
@Nightrangersb4 жыл бұрын
Hey man. Fantastic video. Is there a particular depth you’re catching them at. I may rent a kayak this summer and I’m assuming it won’t have a fish finder but maybe I can use a contour map and shore points. Maybe it’s a pipe dream.

The bent hooks jig problem ... in the good old days, that is... when is was young dumb and full rum... on all new jigs we used a pair of pliers with a small piece of really wet sponge to hold the lead head and keep it cool as we heated up the bend and shaft just short of the sponge on the lead of the hook (but just short the barb tip) with a propane torch until just shy of cherry red and immediately plunge it into short jelly jar full of WD40. Never get it white hot or it will snap but just to cherry red... they'd never straighten out after that and seldom, if ever, broke or snapped. Better to temper your hook a bit than loose your temper on a lost big fish.

Pretty good action there. Do you find dropping to the bottom and retrieving the jig up the water column has better results? I just stayed on the bottom my last trip out.

Some days yes. Let the lakers tell you what they want to do. I find bottom Bouncing works better in the winter.

I just got home from Ontario. I saw this Vid while up there. Up there they are old school lead core that I don't like. I put on a white zoom on a 1oz jig and picked a 7lb Laker at 45ft. THANKS FOR THE TIP ELI !
@randyalbright20115 жыл бұрын
Why the short shank jig? Sometimes trout bite short like you're saying. Go longer shank jigs made for plastics. I use VMC mooneye jigs and northland slurpee jigs. Longer shanks and good quality components and tough. I usually hook most fish but occasionally one will pop off

Hey Elias you should try hitting lake ontario out of oswego while your up that way. The king salmon bite is on fire right now. You only have to go about a mile out right now. Hooking a big king on a kayak would be an experience and a half they are one strong fish. There is videos of people catching them on kayaks on youtube to get an idea. Just watch the weather and hit it on a nice calm day I mean your only about an hour and 20 minutes away from there.

Hi elias what do you think about the tsunami shield? do you like it better then the stradic? im thinking about buying one of these... any recommendations for a reel in the 100-150 dollar range to fit my majorcraft crostage 7-28g rod?
@EliasVFishing6 жыл бұрын
I like the Daiwa Fuego LT more for finesse purposes. Shield seems to hold up better. BG a little more clumsy but better for trolling bluefish/stripers
@EliasVFishing6 жыл бұрын
Stradic outperformed all of them though.

Elias, try smoking a laker over a heavier smoke of alder. Split the whole fish from the tail up leaving the flesh connected. This will give the fish an extremely mild flavor as well and if timed right, preserve the fish so you can enjoy good freshwater fish when you get back home to Carolina.

Come to the lower Niagara mid-nov to mid-dec and fish the peak laker and steelhead season. Catching 25 pound Lakers and 10 pound steelies in that current will give you a better idea of why we say Lakers don’t fight as good as steelhead

Lake trout are not fighters if your one of those fishermen trolling with 30lb test with downriggers and a cannonball. That is some boring fishing unless your really catching fish. Standing there Drinking, talking, and such is only really fun when your catching.
