Good to see you running this. It sure is a good idea that Newaza had. Hopefully you guys can get it perfected.

I hope so! If it works well, I want to build a simlar setup for a street car. Just need a street car that's turbocharged..

Yeah, I have loved this idea ever since he first posted about it. Can't wait to see your next pass. We are racing for money on Monday, that's when I really think about an automatic.

This reminds me of a simplified version of the '03 Focus rally car that ford ran. They basically used a ""boost tank"" that would fill back up with boost pressure as they were going down the straights, then dumped the air back into the turbo as they came out of the corners and back into boost. Very cool to see, cant wait to see the finished product!

It's built and tested now! 10x improvement in spool.

Nerdy and interesting video. Looking forward to the build and testing of this. I was expecting some form of Antilag but this is simpler, cheaper and doesn't kill turbos

Nice benefits! Shoudl have similar performance to a small nitrous shot, but without the cost of nitrous!

Feel like I have to chime in on here since I have ran this system for 7 years now and have lots of practical experience with it. I go by newaza on miataturbo. This system just flat works! The improvements Pat will make may make it work even better. I have seen a lots of different theories of why you shouldn't do this due to potential damage to turbine wheel from blasting hot turbine with cooler air or moisture in air. Those fears are unfounded. My turbos have shown NO damage over the last 7 years of using this, they really don't seem to care. The more air at greater pressures the better it seems to work. In fact, the larger the turbo, the more air you HAVE to throw at it to get the desired effect. I'm sure there is a limit, I just have'nt found it yet. Another very common suggestion is to shoot into intake, well I tested that and am continuing to test that as well. I can say for a fact, at least on my setup, shooting into exhaust side proves to be better in so far as spooling up turbo. However shooting into intake side may have other merits for other reasons which Pat may or may not demonstrate at a later time down the road. I for one am really looking forward to see Pats' rendition of this!

At this stage I recommend you use a water to air intercooler to shorten the pipe as much as possible and to keep boost going to the engine significantly high. Then add ice to the setup

That could happen! Would certainly make more power. Plan is to see what it will do no intercooler, then depending on the results decide if I'm adding an intercooler. If I go with an ice setup, I want to build essentially the intercooler/icebox all into the same single assembly. I've seen it done before, but it's not common.

Try to capture moisture before & after filling/releasing of the air tank. I'd guess bits of water over time might damage the blades.

I wonder that myself. But given how hot the exhaust is, maybe those drops vaporize before they can cause damage. No idea. Either way I'll be draining the tank on a schedule, and am considering a dryer setup to keep moisture out in the first place.

Patrick - I’ve been lurking on MT following you f a while - tho you are a ways down the road a bit on this take a look at Stab-Tech on here - he has a big turbo on a VW swapped MR2 that he uses the rally designed rocket anti lag - seems like it should at least be interesting for you. Love your work good luck with your racing!

hell yeah, quick (air) spool valve. I also don't understand why this isn't done ALL the time. Almost everyone has gripes about their turbo boost threshold rpm (or whatever its called I forget) with small engines and bigger turbos, especially on the street. Some people do meth injection, or nitrous, which works pretty well, but I think air spool is even faster, it'll easily build 30+psi within a single second, in an rpm range thousands sooner as well.

Blow the same amount of cold air into the intake. That provides immediate boost to the engine, which get heated by burning fuel, even more pressure to the turbine.
@sjorsangevare
@sjorsangevare 28 күн бұрын
Maybe that's a little hard since there's more air going into the engine than you're expecting?

I will be doing a version of this soon. But since it's turbo, at low shaft speeds, if you inject high pressure air into the intake, the pressure just flows backwards through the turbo. The compressor has to get the wheel speed high enough to stop the flow. Newaza tested this as well and found it took about 6 psi boost on his setup before the benefits of spraying air into the intake became apparent. However you do make an excellent point. If I can transition the air from the exhaust side, to intake side, as quickly as possible, there could be a much greater improvement in performance (per amount of air used) for both engine torque and spool!

@@patrickcowanjr1 Closing the throttle body could allow compressed air, injected into the intake manifold, to build boost. But, then the turbo is trying to push air into a closed intake. Activating the blow off valve could fix that, but you need a vacuum to do that, and at WOT, you don't have the normal one. Then comes the difficult part, the transition between compressed air and turbo.
