I randomly happened upon your original V60 PE video when I started shopping for a new car and you immediately sold me on it. I was even more eager when I learned they had updated it significantly. But then I found out they were incredibly difficult to find. One dealer told me the wait was 18 months! But I got super lucky found a local dealer here in Houston had a black one on order for delivery within 10 weeks and immediately reserved it. Picked it up at the end of February! Thank you, Kyle, the car is perfect for me! And I just learned from this video that on long road trips I can use the nav system with Hybrid mode to keep the battery from going to 0%. Wish I had known that when I drove to and from New Orleans last week in battery Hold mode the whole way so I'd have a charge for city driving. Next time!

I really wish they had a setting of how much battery you'd like left on arrival in the infotainment and let the great hybrid system do the rest in the background. Sometimes you want more, sometimes you want less on arrival. One time when I was out doing a longer drive through the Scottish Highlands (in Hybrid, not Polestar engineered mode) having satnav set to my destination I noticed the car kept storing all the re-gen electricity and building charge back up to 3/4 full. To then use it all as we were crawling through the miles and miles and miles of roadworks that had been set up on the only road we could take on pure electricity. Still arriving on an empty battery with no input from me.

Outstanding review! Had mine for 5 months and absolutely love it. The biggest flaw in the car was Volvo's decision to mov the Drive Select wheel from the center console to a function on the screen. Not sure why that was seen as a good move. I miss that from my '18 V90 T6.

The Volvo/Polestar guys have GOTTA be itching to do that behind the scenes, they've just gotta get the crossover/suv stuff out of the way before they'll get the chance to as that's what pays the bills. I'm imagining a Polestar 3 perfomance but lower.

My favourite wagon of all time is the Audi RS6 Avante. Had the chance to drive one for a few days and I can say without question, I’ve never driven more of a monster 590hp 600tq that was so easy to live with. I could lend it to my grandma and in comfort mode with normal driving she would never know she was driving a fire breathing 3.1sec 0-60 monster. Out it into full beans RS mode and it utterly transforms into an insane wagon. The suspension goes from quiet and comfortable, like an old Cadillac to rock solid tight suspension. Probably the biggest difference I’ve felt between suspension settings on any vehicle to this point. It’s just such a sexy machine.

Have this car in this color. Love the hell out of it. All the things he called out: easy efficient daily driver around town in EV mode, and power to crush people's souls in Polestar Engineered. I get so many compliments on it from both kids and old heads; Subi wagon guys and people that just like the lines. The braking transition between regeneration and the big brembos is seamless. If not for the guage you can't even tell. The stereo is amazing. I had budget allocated to put at least an aftermarket sub in it. Nope. Not gonna bother. After you break it in its delightful. The *only* problem is that changing drive modes is 3 touches deep in the main screen. The selector wheel on the center console is gone. The left and right arrows on the left d pad on the steering wheel have no use at any point ever. They should be to select drive mode without having to dig into menus. Safer, better UX. Thank you OOS Reviews! I pre ordered my 23 in large part based on your reviews of the 21 (which btw we on sweedespeed.com refer to the pre-update without modifier and the bigger ERADs as T8 ERs, including the 22 Late which is the rare combo of sensus and the bigger ERAD and battery). Such a great car. Love it.

I own a '19 T8 with polestar engineered (not the polestar version, but the tuned one). I totally agree on the weak rear electric motor (80hp) and the disappointing range you get out of the 11kwh battery. Also, I agree the power delivery is uneven, you never really know what part is going to do what. So that would be a reason to upgrade. However, the limited top speed and the drive modes hidden in the screen menu are big downgrades. But for the rest, still the perfect choice for everyone wanting a sleeper with a conscience.

Great review; very comprehensive! I was one of the first in New England to get one of these last June (22.5 model with Sensus) and it is the best car I’ve ever owned. They finally addressed the transmission tuning and it’s fantastic. I routinely get 40+ miles of electric range and still get 32-34 mpg hauling ass in PE mode. Only gripe so far has been warped front rotors; thankfully (they’re $$$), they were replaced at 9K miles under warranty.

So they have done that in the UK too now? I was told initially it would be an updated charger, followed with getting told it wasn't one for MY23 on the XC60. It really needs that once you've used the PHEV goodness and driven a long distance so you can get usable EV range again in the city you are visiting on quick plugins when visiting shops and the likes.
@ojeskog

To answer my own question having looked on Volvo UKs website. The MY24 PHEV Volvos in the UK have a 6.4kW 2 phase charger now. So at home you are still only getting 3.7kW as you won't have 3 phase supply. (Very, very unusual in UK). Public level 2 charging might yield you the 6.4kW though and at home in a lot of mainland Europe where the homes normally have 3phase as well. I wonder if there are less losses in this higher rate charger as well? The old 3.7kW charger in reality only gives 3kW in to the battery =6miles/h real world charge rate =quite useless, you might as well use ICE when out and about. Would expect that updated charger to yield 10-13miles/h real world charge rate which starts to be slightly useful. I was hopeful they'd put a 7.4 single phase/ 11kW 3 phase level 2 charger in it, as most BEVs in Europe have. That is actually useful charge rate while not charging at home overnight. But, no!

I ordered the V60 in a more sensible version. In Europe we can get the V60 in a T6 recharge (254hp +143hp for a total of 350hp and 649nm). Not the biggest fan of the polestar since it lacks the comfort of the normal version. Mine will do 60k km a year and often has 400km days. I did doubt getting a V60 T8, but with the low speed limit and the T6 not lacking power I went for the T6.

That is crazy that they spent that much on updating so much of it and the onboard charger is that slow. My 2023 KIA Sportage PHEV comes with a 7.2kW OBC and charges it's 13.8 kWh battery in 2 hours on Level 2. I do love the details on this car, especially the adjustable Ohlin's suspension!
@mikefarrington7141
@mikefarrington7141 Жыл бұрын
For this price, it's crazy that it's only 3.3 kW. They should definitely offer 7.2 kW, even as an up-charge. That would work so much better for our current driving habits as we're constantly popping out of the house for 50-80 mile round trips 2-4 times per day. We do that in a BEV at the moment, but we're thinking of replacing our ICE with a PHEV and would of course want to use gas as infrequently as possible.

@Gustis40g
@Gustis40g Жыл бұрын
@@makimoko Amperage is how much power flow you've got. But how many kW charged depends on your voltage and phases. To explain it all: In Europe we have 50Hz AC. So basically the power pulses 50 times per second. If you have 2 phases you've basically got 2 wires of that 50Hz AC, so for simplicity you can think of it as 100hz AC, twice the power with other words. So a 16A 1 phase circuit is 3.7kWh, and a 3 phase 16A charger is three times that, 11.1kWh. So simple math shows us that to maximize charging on the Volvo hybrids you need a 28A charger for single phase, 9A charger if three phase. *This only for European 50hz 230v circuits, the numbers are different for American circuits.

I want one so bad, probably more so the suv. I currently have a regular XC60 and love it. I want a phev for my next vehicle. However, the one thing I don't care for with all phevs is that it's only awd in the hybrid mode. Electric only is rwd, and if the battery is depleted its fwd. So if the weather is bad and want/need awd, you'd be using gas.

14:46 uhh no? Plug-in hybrids even ones that are more electric heavy like this still makes its primary range and power provider its combustion engine. I agree with having a faster charger being a super benefit since almost half the driving I do are short range 15minute-ish drives and would love to not have to turn on the ICE. However, when it does turn on I it is deliberate as I know I'm getting on the freeway for a 15+mi drive so I do not get anxiety. I just wish the method to turn on/off the ICE is physical button/toggle mode switch instead of being 3-layers deep or something under Volvo's 200IQ digital thingy.

The thermal throttling of the old one is really annoying! How long did you have to drive the updated one hard until it throttled and by how much did it throttle? The old starts throttling after about 20s of wide open throttle and goes as far down as only 55% power, of an already measly EV power to start with. But in city traffic it still works great and as long as you can force yourself in to not having gas anxiety and accept that a PHEV can actually use the gas engine some times too, it performs very well. Never had an issue locking the old model in pure and have the gas engine fire only when you hit the kickdown though (but I really hate to fire it up that way too). Maybe you had a very early software or is it that way in the US? I did look in to changing our MY21 XC60 T8 with Polestar Engineered to the updated model however, the fact that they hadn't updated the on board charger meant I gave it a pass. An upgraded charger would give my use way more EV driving than the longer range battery actually. Here in Europe they are not allowed to have the setting where the car starts in pure mode sadly, and the updated model has had the drive mode selection wheel removed and had it integrated in to the screen menu, which is utterly stupid as its used all the time we set off. The other massive downside for me is that the new model doesn't support playing music files off a USB stick. So can't easily feel that wonderful sound system with high quality FLAC files any more... So some steps back with the updated model too sadly.

Gas anxiety is a thing. Oddly enough one of the most criticized PHEV Chrysler Pacifica eHybrid for kicking ICE stepping deeper on accelerator does have 6.6 kW onboard charger - what Volvo is thinking? That our minivan shows MPG equivalent on dashboard display. So driving pure electric I have reached 85 MPG. If the ICE starts it quickly spoils the MPG thus the gas anxiety is a real thing. It’s like a game you do not want to lose by going with ICE.

We got a 2023 XC90 extended range and love all the PHEV parts of it. Obviously, it doesn't get as much electric range as a sedan or wagon, but it's still around 30 miles. As a family cruiser, it's amazing. But it really lacks any sense of sportiness, which you can get from the competitors. It can carry speed through corners, but it isn't fun. Part of me finds it funny how hard it seems to be for other car companies to make a plugin hybrid better than the Volt in terms of technology/drivetrain. Even at 83K miles I still have almost 40 miles of EV range around town. If I do more highway I get low 30s. A 3.6kw onboard charger is a joke in a new car. The 3.3kw onboard charger on my 2015 Volt is horribly slow and that has half the battery capacity of this new Volvo. Oh well. I look forward to the new EX30, either that or the Equinox EV will be my next vehicle. Leaning towards the Equinox as I've had such great experiences with my Volt and other GM vehicles. But if they drag their feet on producing the more effortable versions of the Equinox I might go for the EX30. Hope you can review it soon! :)

I am à Volvo Guy! This is my third one… but suspension adjustments manual and under the hood… it is a deal breaker… i love so much their air suspension, more especially in a break model.

Great review. This would be an all-in-all ll great car if it was a 7 passenger wagon. Something that Mercedez-Benz has been making for decades. The price point does not make it realistic to obtain it unless one has the money for it and want it to have it for collection purposes. For utility purposes the 2023 E450 All-Terrain hybrid wagon makes it a close contender in my opinion. It'd be great if MB comes with a PHEV model.

I think electric only rear is not ideal. The weak charger sucks. The charge port is on the wrong side of the car for the US. If you pull to the curb to charge. Why only 150 hp? Why not 200? Make it a 500 hp car.???

I think your viewers are more interested in range and efficiency . Make a speed and handling video . Don't combine the both

For me, EV's are not all they are cracked up to be. I have been following the EV revolution for several years now and just uninstalled my unused Chargepoint charger and ordered a new Macan instead. With the speed in which battery technology is advancing, the EV's on the market today will be as obsolete as Nokia flip phones are now in no time. Other than that, deal breakers include significant increased weight due to batteries, the effect of failure of even one battery cell on the battery pack including potential for thermal runaway, poor or non-existent public charging infrastructure, and the move by manufacturers to introduce subscription fees to turn on options. I will revisit in around 5 to 10 years.

Boomer EV haters like you with this outdated view on EV's are becoming antiques. Following means you know nothing. If you can charge at home at L2 at 10 cents per kwh with a daily commute under 100kms per day you are putting $1000/mo back into your pocket based on your antiquated choice of gas guzzling Macan. The difference between dumb money and smart money is in your argument right there.

I agree with everything you said and will add not only weight issues but battery degradation that most won’t admit, but they know it exists. I’ve owned three BEVin past ten years and several hybrids. At this point, hybrids are superior, particularly Toyotas Prime series. They’ll only get better.

You're crazy. Run literal circles around a volt if that's what you're into, and haul double the people and stuff in double the comfort of a volt. I'm not sure how you even make that comparison. Granted it'd probably also double the price but they're not even the same vehicle class.
