I got over a hundred vinyl records at the flea market - for only 10€! Let's take a closer look.

I just found three more records that were hiding inside a gatefold sleeve: Billy Connolly - "Live" (Album, sadly without the sleeve) Uriah Heep - "Free Me" (Single) David Bowie - "Cat People" (Single)

Sukiyaki (Ue o Muite Arukou) Was a big hit here in the States. I don't remember the story on why it was ever released outside if Japan, but it was called Sukiyaki because record execs thought Americans would be put off by the actual title so they went with a word that was already commonly known. Personally, I think doing that was very insensitive to do to Kyu. It's a beautiful song!

Your channel brings back the memories from a German rock album I played a lot from a cassette tape as a kid. My father recorded it for me, like he sometimes did, from an LP: Triumvirat - Spartacus.

This sounds very good! Unfortunately this style of music is very hard to find, even in Germany. Other artists with a similar style (at least in some of their albums) would be Eloy and Novalis, for example. It took me years to find some of their records.

Cool! You easily got your money's worth there. Looks like most of these are from the '80s and '70s, quite varied in style. Some notes: Demis Roussos is Greek. Was in the band _Aphrodite's Child_ together with a certain Vangelis, later had a pop career. For Alice you would have to switch to Italian pronunciation. (Deutsch: A-'lie-tsche) I would not have expected one of her albums to turn up as far north as you are. This is among her better ones, and she would continue in a similar vein from that point on. IMHO side B is stronger. If you like this, look out for _Il sole nella pioggia._ (Also, heading to the Land of the Rising Sun, Rajie's _Espresso_ comes to mind.) I also quite like _Gioielli Rubati_ (album of Franco Battiato covers) and from her earlier pop-rock period I'd say _Azimut_ first and _Capo Nord_ second.
@DrCassette6 жыл бұрын
I know about Demis Roussos and Vangelis, I have (I think) two albums by Aphrodite's Child in my collection as well. That's what makes the Demis Roussos album interesting. Actually I already have some albums by Alice, I once got one and liked it, so Alice has been on my list ever since. Can't say which albums I have though, I'd have to dig them out from the endless mess of records that I have not yet listened to :D

That Eddie Money, Mc hammer, new kids, young mc and Oleta Adam's are rare in America. Vinyl ceased in 1990 in America ( for the most part). That Vital Idol isn't a 12", it's a best of - came out in 85 in the UK, reissued in the USA in 87 with extra remixes

Yes, very unusual - typically when you see such a big stack of records at the flea market by a seller who is not a dedicated vinyl dealer, it will be a few decent albums up front, but the rear half will be classical music and German folk music (Schlager/Volksmusik).

I have one record from this group, James Last Non Stop Dancing '73 but in a two record set with the second 1973 Non Stop Dancing album he made that year. Also, Sukiyaki on a German 45 is interesting to see. It was on Capitol Records in the USA in 1963.

@DrCassette6 жыл бұрын
I guess you can get pretty good deals on used video tapes. On the flea markets here, some sellers ask only 20 Cents per tape - and still nobody wants them. I wish this was also still true for records - like it was back when I began collecting back in 2005...

Edit: Yeah, writing with a phone-keyboard with auto-correction turned on in german it's really funny, because nearly every english word gets replaced :). Im only writing english because of other people in your english communtiy, so they can read it :)

weird mixture of stuff. i can't imagine anyone liking german folk AND classic hip hop
@DrCassette6 жыл бұрын
I guess originally these were three separate collections. One with the Jazz music, one with the German Folk Music and one with all the newer music. You can not only tell by the type of music but also by the overall condition the records are in. Probably somebody inherited the two older collections from his parents.

Look up values of Oleta Adam's, Eddie Money, Young Mc, Mc Hammer, new kids, Rick astley. 30$ each or more, some impossible to find in America. 75% was junk, but the 25% made it good, even if not your cup of tea
