the curved "pins" are for holding the rollers in place so that there is no ridge line in your hair as the clips can sometimes do. Simply push them over the roller inthe oppposite direction of the roll. I've been using hot rollers since the late 70's! they are great time savers. !-moisturize/prep face skin 2- put in rollers 3- put on makeup while rollers cool in your hair 4- takeout rollers and style. If your hair is hard to curl. Lightly mist with water before putting in rollers and leave rollers in until they are cool. That is it. You can also use smaller rollers arranged in the places where you would use a curling iron - put them up and down- and you can get the same waves that you get with a curling iron. I'm glad that this easy old school solution is making a comeback with new styles.

Your hair looks gorgeous, right after you run your fingers through the first time, but definitely waaay even better after you cut away and then come back with that final look. Thanks for this cheaper alternative, your hair always looks so gorgeous, I’ve never been a fan of hot rollers but I will give it a try, also have you tried the beachwaver tool? I tried the beachwaver tool about a year ago. I still have it but I personally don't think it's a very good investment. I have straight to wavy hair and if I curl my hair with the beachwaver, it usually lasts for about an hour or less. It doesn't heat up evenly either. You are probably far off using a regular curling iron. My beachwaver sits in my closet now :(

Great follow up! I’ve had my Con-Air rollers for over 10+ years and they still heat up and burn my hands sometimes hahaha! Those metal hooks take a bit of getting used to; you put it in like a reverse bobby pin. I personally use the clips also, so much easier and faster. 👍🏼
