He wore it because he wanted to prove to Sheldon that he could live with the anxieties that Sheldon lives with every single minute of every day, with the way Sheldon feels about many social conventions, as the itching of the sweater represented the 'madness' of Sheldon's brain. Leonard didn't have to do it, but he wanted to because he arrogantly assumed he could do it and prove Sheldon wrong. And he lost. This is my issue with comments like yours: you blame Sheldon for, literally, Leonard's own choices! He didn't have to tolerate anything Sheldon demanded from him, he chose to tolerate it. This is why this whole storyline proved once and for all that Leonard didn't have a spine, balls, or any kind of personality. Leonard often assumed things about Sheldon, arrogantly wanted to prove him wrong, and then failed - and it was all his own doing! That is a FACT! So Sheldon didn't do anything to Leonard here, Leonard, as always, did it to himself!

its just not....realistic. Cushions rest on a surface, take that surface out and it falls through. You cant be under the cushion without taking that surface out. So Leonard should have known before he sat down that something was wrong...and then after wards he should have realized he is sitting lower than he normally does. And then sheldon would have kinda been crushed when leonard sat down so....not really realistic.

Elephant Toothpaste is fairly safe. It can get hot but the reaction is just turning peroxide (H3O) into water and oxygen, the soap catches the oxygen and the heat generated is from splitting the Hydrogen Peroxide into water and oxygen. Yeast is a common catalyst to make the reaction happen, it's the same thing peroxide does when it bubbles on your skin just as a controlled experiment.
