What are opinions of French Press regarding futures of Citroen now that the CEO of Stellantis which own Citroen has left? Would the Citroen brand and what was left of the company join the rest of the group in the mass grave. Nissan Motor is also in deep trouble, but mainly because it only has 23 months of cash left according to Japanese press.

I hate what has been done to the brand and I've traveled mostly in Citroëns since my birth (2 BX, 1 AX, 1 Xantia, 2 C3, 1 C4, 1 DS4). I hate their current line of crossovers / stupid SUVs, I hate their new logo which won't allow any front with another shape than a vertical one (so to the trash any return of a decent looking aerodynamic shape), I despise what greedy short-term profit cost-kill executives made of that heritage. @Thanksonprespanich > development cycle is way ahead of the resignation of the CEO, so there is at least one additional ngeneration of uninspired crossovers/SUV, or something to compete with Dacia in the low-cost segment

I've driven a few different 3 cylinders, the puretec I actually disliked the least. I think it's much better on fuel than Korean, German and the "ecoboom" competitors, feels like it has more low down torque too. Apparently you just need to keep a close eye on the belt (which is actually designed to be changed relatively easily from a mechanic's point of view). So you actually have to service it instead of being able to just drive it into the ground like a lot do with their cars

@@BigCar2Just a little nitpicking, but the two dots on the Ë in Citroën are necessary to pronounce it correctly: without those dots, the O before the Ë would be silent, which would change the pronunciation significantly. It’s a thing of the French language, there are quite a few vowels that have to be written with the two dots.
@physicswithpark3r-x3xАй бұрын
@@KurterinoVD True, but since neither is the "native" Dutch pronunciation (which the French might spell Sitrown, comme clown, tu sais), he could have left it at either. However, it is bad for a brand name when folks are not quite sure how to pronounce it! The diaeresis allows a native speaker of French to choose _o-w-nasalised en_ with confidence.
@KurterinoVDАй бұрын
@@physicswithpark3r-x3xIf he would have left it at Citroen or Citron (pronounced like clown), it would have been pronounced exactly like the fruit (lemon), which he seemingly wanted to avoid, because i don’t think that Lemon would have made a good name for a car brand. Even though lemon doesn’t have the same connotation as in the USA (AFAIK, lemon is never used in the French car-related vocabulary), it could still have been a source of ridicule, i think. "And why doesn't the modern DS have the best Citroen suspension they are currently offering?" Because it's a badge engineered Peugeot, perhaps? 🥲 With PSA now being part of extremely cost-sensitive Stellantis, I don't think such things will get any better! Though with Tavares gone there may be less of an emphasis on slashing costs and more effort given to designing good product and improving quality. Supposedly Stellantis HQ in the tax-friendly Netherlands keeps the car divisions in check by only providing a 30 days line of credit to make sure they tow the company line. Hopefully this will change in future and they have more autonomy to develop good product.

@CaSuMogАй бұрын
@ that is not the point of a „centennial car“. The idea behind „centennial“ is, kind of, how influencial a specific car was. And the Trac was amongst the first front drive cars, the first in mass production, plus an all steel chassis, low body, hydraulic brakes, engine layout is front- middle, torsion bars, it simply set standards for generations of cars no doubt. See how retarded a beetle is in comparison. Same regarding the HY, they were so versatile because it was the first transporter with front wheel drive and a detacheable drive unit / so anything behind the drivers cabin could be anything you have in mind. The use of corrugated material made it stiffer, so they could use thinner sheet metal. Again, see how retarded the others were, like the Transit or the VW microbus. And see they had it on sale, when, 1948 ? Today ANY mass produced transporter is built to this layout….

Some boring Citroën background history: André's parents met and married in Warsaw and the Jewish tradition often favoured matchmaking - hence André travelled regularly to Poland to "look around." During just such a trip, a brother-in-law of his took him to a factory in Głowno, where André was shown an innovative design of wooden cog-wheels, which were simpler, quieter in operation, more resilient and cheaper to manufacture than standard ones. Impressed, André purchased the license there and then, taking the design back to France with him, soon started production and securing good profits. So enamoured by this successful design, he copied its unique V-shape for his new company logo ("Société des Engrenages Citroën").

On one occasion I was parked outside the leading technical College in Melbourne, and some of the students actually came out of the classroom to gawp at the styling and the beauty of the design (there in mind that Citroens were a comparative rarity in Australia-and still are) When it was time to say goodbye to my DS 23 I was heartbroken. I went to a citron dealership the other day (in Australia) and saw the Chinese made C5. I was a mechanic in an American Citroen dealer workshop in the 1980's Citroen had pulled out of the US in 1974 because of the bumper height regs. America had new bumper standards in 1974 that was an attempt to save the insurance companies money in the event of a minor bump. Because the hydraulic suspension made the bumper height a variable that couldn't be pinned down, their cars didn't qualify. I guess they never had a big chunk of the US market so they just said "screw it" and stopped sending cars to the 'States. But the shop where I worked was able to stay afloat servicing all kinds of European cars including the Citroens that had been sold there. I personally drove a DS wagon as my family car for 20 years and an SM as my fun car. We had a few customers who had Traction Avants so I got to drive and service them... amazing cars for their time. As always, I found this fascinating. I've just realised that I've never owned one. I remember a girlfriends AX leaving me standing in my MG montego though. A little rocket considering the engine size. It could be that she treated the accelerator like an on/off button, with no inbetween. Sorry, skipped a couple of ads.

19:06 Could you please make a European Car of the Year - special? 🙏 Isn’t that reward the best recipe for desaster 🤣🤣 Has any of those ever made any succes?? Thanks for yet another wonderful journey along memory lane!

@@BigCar2 I don’t know, it just struck me when you mentioned it that so many Car of the year has ended up being ”not so successful” in the end. At least that’s my feeling (I might be wrong). Maybe the 10 biggest flops that has ever won the award or something.

This must have taken serious research time to put together. Bravo! I admit, I knew little of Citroën, outside their major contributions, and an endless fascination with the Citroën Maserati, as flawed as it is, the DS, Traction Avant, and 2CV. You have rectified this shortcoming of mine, and I thank you!

A very well told and informative vid. I loved my Citroen Dyane in the day. Your studio for this episode is an excellent backdrop and the lighting is just right. Thank you and best wishes from Ellan Vannin/the Isle of Man somewhere in the Irish Sea.

Excellent, excellent, thank you!! I've always had a bit of a soft spot for Citroen cars. I've had several BX's and a couple of Xantia's, in fact I sold my last Xantia earlier this year! Excellent cars, and I've had lots of fun driving them and repairing them. There's nothing quite like the Citroen Hydopneumatic suspension system, such a shame Citroen no longer use it.

All that Citroen could have done to make sure its cars selling well outside of French former colonies and Europe were making spare parts availability more widespread by giving licenses to parts manufacturers in developing countries. One of the reasons why Citroen cars are coldly received in Asian countries is because they don't have adequate spare parts for maintenance, in addition to be complicated to be serviced by mechanics who are more used to Japanese and Korean cars.
@TassieLorenzoАй бұрын
To be fair, world's largest/second largest automaker VW Group (VW/Audi, let alone Cupra etc) also has essentially NO representation at all in the SE Asian market ASEAN zone apart from low volume imports! Meanwhile BMW and Mercedes manufacture locally in the ASEAN zone to avoid tariffs and are quite common vehicle.

Good work. Really nice to watch and very informative. I like Citroen for their weird things. 2CV, Ami 6, 7b to 15/6 (Traction avants) and of course the DS, especially really early ones. Brilliant.

For our Citroën fans in Europe, Citroën was launched in India in 2022-23 but is failing due really poor sales. They sold around 6K cars which is very less in a Car market like india (a Big Suv known as Mahindra Xuv700 sale around 10k per month!!!)

We saw so few of these cars in Australia. We're too far away, too small a market, and our currency is not worth much against the power of sterling, the euro, etc. But at least it's $3 for £1, like it was back in the day. Another lovely video. Thanks.

Being in the USA, there's no access to Citroen save for some very old models from many decades ago (DS19, 2CV, SM). I thought the CX and XM were truly innovative and captivating designs, hoping one day Citroen would return to the USA. But this video shows why that didn't happen. I'm so sad to see this brand that was once such a forward thinking innovative car company be reduced to struggling to stay out of bankruptcy. It seems its days are numbered, given the automotive technology trends.
