USE ONLY CLEAR SOAP (DYED IS FINE, except often the dyes are on the no-no, bad for you list). White/not clear soap has larger pigment pieces that clog up the mechanism. I found this when my foaming soap dispenser clogged up and died.

You can use normal liquid soap in these foaming dispensers, just mix it 2 parts water 1 part soap. No issue with pigments here. Been using non-dove dispensers for more than a year now.

I highly recommend any soap-pump based on this mechanism. I'll repost my other top level comment here: I purchased one of these foam soap dispensers (sans pigeon) five years ago based on your teardown video here ("Automatic schmoo-pump"). It's one of the best $15 purchases I've ever made. It's used multiple times a day and is still operating on the original lithium iron disulfide Energizers I installed in it when I got it. Lithium primary cells are famously energy dense and long lasting, but still, at FIVE YEARS of continuous on time the circuit they've used here must be exceptionally efficient and low power draw in standby. I recommend opening it up and encapsulating the circuit board in some kind of paint-on plastic to protect it from corrosion - the only thing I've had to do to mine a year or so ago after water got onto it and corrosion bridged a resistor. Easily fixed by brushing off the corrosion.

That valve plate on the pump is probably ultrasonically welded together. The parts are vibrated against one another at very high frequency which melts the two surfaces, bonding them together. The explanation is for the benefit of any viewers here who are not familiar with ultrasonic welding of plastics.
@MeteorMark
@MeteorMark 15 күн бұрын
Or RF (Radio Frequency) welded at around ISM 27MHz 🤔 We have a company next door producing the (up to 25KW or more) generators for this, and ship them to China for instance. Very interesting to see the 16th Harmonic popping up on the ISM 433MHz we are using for a lot of our remote controls...

@@MeteorMark Correct, I used to work on the servo that actuates the tuning caps in them on Kiefel welders. Medical bags are RF welded, that is where I saw the generators being used. And lots of automotive parts are welded, the fuel systems are pretty much entirely plastic these days, and plenty of ultrasonic welding takes place there in final assembly. The filler pipe assemblies are welded in quite a few places during final assembly.

I have to admit to being absent-minded, in fact my younger brother reckons I don’t have a mind. I am now of the age that, since I can’t remember what I’m doing, I walk backwards out of my front door in case I suddenly remember that I did all my shopping an hour earlier and can simply walk back inside without embarrassment. It was on one of these periods of mental acuity (as I like to call them), when I was adding bird food to the bird table and a pigeon ‘pooped’ on my hands and I thought it was actually soap. I have to say, it was quite remarkable at cleaning my face - quite remarkable!!

It's interesting that they put a lot of effort in making sure the battery sense circuit doesn't drain the battery, but then they have the voltage divider for the boost circuit permanently connected. Due to the way the boost circuit works, even when it is disabled there will be battery voltage minus one diode drop over this divider, all the time.

I own more 'classic' variant of this thing, like without pigeon on top lol, but i can say it is pretty neat. My version have four dose mode and also have rechargeable battery in it. For almost three months it just dropped one notch from four. Also it's saves soap alot. Soap comes into it by proportion 10% of liquid soap and the rest is water, and gives pretty big soapy foam, and liquid level dropped only by half.
