I’ve been a Weihrauch man most of my shooting life, nearly fifty years and and yes they are outstanding rifles and have very good triggers and accurate and bullet proof excuse the pun! But for years now I’ve always wanted a pro sport but as I’m a lefty back in the day they never did left handed stocks. But a while ago they started to do a left handed version and that was it I started to save whatever I could when I could and I eventually got my dream rifle in 177 about three weeks ago and what a rifle, everything is absolutely flawless from the most wonderful walnut stock to the barrel end and my god is it accurate, pellet on pellet at 35 yards sat resting and that’s pcp territory. Now you mentioned the cd trigger, now as I said I’ve been shooting Weihrauch’s for a lot of years and have a few of them including the hw 97kt blue laminate which was my most accurate fixed barrel. As we know the Weihrauch rekord triggers are fantastic but I’ve got to say that I believe this cd unit on the pro sport is much better and straight from the box I’ve had no need for any adjustment it’s silky smooth and much better to shoot than any other springer I’ve ever shot. This doesn’t mean I’m selling my Weihrauch collection by any means as I still really do enjoy them. When it came to buying it I started to sit on the fence as the tx is also a wonderful gun but I followed my heart and got the one I’d always longed for and yes it was that ratchet of a bear trap that put my off and I totally agree with you why can’t they make them similar to the Weihrauch’s which are silky smooth and pretty much silent. So if I was to choose between my 97 and the tx especially for hunting it would be the the 97 every time but for anyone doing hft it would be the tx, both have their rightful places.

Well said Jonathan and congratulations on not just getting your dream gun but for absolutely falling in love with it too. The Prosport is a fantastic rifle, I've shot a few myself and they really are a tremendous gun. I've had my very early Mk1 .22 since 1992/3 ... it's always been solid, and was setup with an absolute hair-trigger, you just have to think about it for it to go-off! (No one ever believes this until their first shot goes off into the trees 😁) That was bought via and all setup by Ken Turner up at Bisley ranges where I'd spend my sunday mornings, as it was his new baby at the time ... he taught me about field-target shooting along with the other guys up there when I was about 12, very good of them really! (also how to cock that gun with _technique_ as it was a heavy pull for a kid). It was pretty awesome to see the prototype rifles being tested too, I especially remember the rail-mounted SR version being developed about when I got mine. It was (and still is) an insanely accurate gun, although I had a couple of inches taken off the butt at the time so a touch short now. All a long time ago, and a bit hazy... but had a weird thought of it this morning and did a search, so nice to see a new video about the old beast!

You can but it's still a poorly designed system. AA know this which is why they've even reduced the amount of "clacks" with the Mk2 vs Mk3. Plenty of other underlever rifles on the market that have a much quieter anti beartrap system. Pushing the button is extra unnecessary hassle.

Hi Phillip! This was addressed in the review however operating the rifle in such a way is a bit of a faff and also not standard operating procedure but more of a walk around. AA themselves even modified the Mk3 to have less clacks during the cocking stroke in an attempt I'd imagine to mitigate this.

Very fair review, thanks Dan. I bought a mark 3 full length .177" with a walnut stock about 8 months ago. The matt finish on the oiled walnut stock is beautiful. Yours appears to be the beech stock and hunter-carbine length. * I didn't notice any discomfort with the grip but I have small hands. * The anti-beartrap is quirky but you soon get used to it. I would not be tempted to remove it. I still have one finger-end a different shape to the others after an accident with a break-barrel - and that was 50 years ago when I was a schoolboy. * I don't like safety catches in general and particularly auto-safetys like this. Some years ago I borrowed a rimfire. I attempted to fire it with the safety at "safe". When I released the safety, the gun fired even though I was nowhere near the trigger. Fortunately the gun was pointing in a safe direction but it put me off safety catches for life. Hi Dan, Thank you for your review of the gorgeous Air Arms TX200. There will always be slight differences between the TX and 97K, and you'll get followers of each.I love them both, both for different reasons. Both have their good and not so good points. In terms of hunting, it's a tough call for any springer. In terms of weight, cocking noise, cycling your next pellet noise, I think you'll always struggle. It pains me to say it, though the pcp is so much quieter, you have a 10/12 shot magazine and they are lighter. For me, the pcp wins everytime for hunting. It's no good when you you take a shot from your hide and everything flies off. I love my springers and pcp's alike, though they do different jobs for different demands, and one isn't the other. We are blessed to have a lot of air rifles out there to choose from and not always one will suit everyone

@bigdansairguns83 Hi Dan, Thank you for your kind reply. When I wrote the 97K and TX, both have their good and bad points, I didn't intend to mean either of them have their bad points. I love everything about them both. I think they are two fantastic air rifles, oozing quality, character, and promise. I'm not over keen on the safety catch of the TX, though it's not a game changer. It's just a bit of a caffufle. The TX is shorter and more maneuverable. My 97K is unique to me, as I made my own gunstock, replacing the moulded black plastic one. It's the twinkle of my eye. The blacking of the action and fishscale chequering of the TX makes my knees go weak. Instead of wondering which is best, I'll put that energy into loving both of them, as they are just sublime engineering. I think a scenario that would suit both those springers would be a farm yard where one was constantly on move. Yes, two fantastically engineered, heavyweight air rifles. Thank you, Dan.

Just hold the Anti Bear trap in whilst cocking. Keep hold of the cocking arm etc. Both my 200 and 97 make a loud clack when re-engaging the cocking arm. (Although the 200 makes a more expensive noise.)Honours even. One thing to mention, the 97 breech cut out is full width, the 200 is open only on the right hand side. If you shoot with a sun shade the 200 is by touch when loading a pellet. Nice un-bias view as always.
@bigdansairguns83 Жыл бұрын
Hi Steven! You can hold the button which keeps it quiet as mentioned in the video but it's still a bit clumsy compared to other underlevers on the market. The HW system is more slick although I have no doubts that the AA unit is more secure. The breech cut out works both ways, with a 97/77 the central cut out to me feels more awkward that the TX if you're using a large scope as the objective can partially block the breech. With the TX you can slip the pellet in from the right hand side. It's all silly little things that will be fun to pick apart when we do the shoot off video.

Hi Dan, Bought a Cometa Fusion from you and am loving it but I’m also fortunate enough to have a mark 3 tx200 and the prosport, both in .177. I’ve got to say that I love them both and they are VERY accurate. I’d agree with most of your review, especially the fiddling required to load the gun( having a right hand opening for the breech bakes it even more awkward) but you do get used to the loading process quite quickly. It’s a shame that you didn’t try accupells in your resting as my 200 loves them and is good to 50 yards with them. Another massive plus for the tx200 which you didn’t mention, mainly because your reviews don’t tend to cover it, is the absolute ease with which the gun can be disassembled without the need for a spring compressor. This makes it a joy to work on for any amateur. The only point I’d disagree on is the safety catch. The one on mine requires a really hard yank on the lever to ensure that it engages. It’s a known issue which air arms need to address but it’s the only fault. Great gun. That said, if you can’t afford one, the cometa is cheaper, just as accurate and quite a bit lighter.
@bigdansairguns83 Жыл бұрын
Fantastic comment and I'll definitely try Accupells for the shoot off. The Cometa is also an absolute dream to strip in the same way, zero compressor required and to get to the spring all you need is to remove one pin and a locking screw that goes into the trigger unit. Then it all easily pulls apart. There's no spring tension on either rifle as they're properly set up for us which is rare these days.
@kveecock Жыл бұрын
Well, that’s really handy to know with regards to the Cometa. Hopefully, it won’t need any tinkering as it’s running smooth as a nut. Hope the accupells work as well in your tax as they do in mine , though all barrels are different. They really are great guns - just wish the safety catch issue was sorted out. Happy shooting,Dan.

Good review Dan, can't speak for a mk2 but my mk3 22 prefered Air Arms pellets in 5.52 out of the box, heavies made it twang slightly and were less accurate. My trigger has zero creep so that can be dialled out for sure. I cock it with holding the beartrap in, which is fine for my purposes but would be a faff as a field gun especially prone. Though pcp with a magazine would be my preference for that anyway.

Hi Dan, Do you think you could live with the buzz/twang of this air rifle? I think its a fantastic air rifle. Id like to get rid of the buzz in mine. However, I like my air rifle as it left Air Arms and untampered with. I'm thinking there may he play in the spring guide and maybe better with a thin sleeve from a drinks can or plastic bottle? I think I going go put up with mine, for now, anyway. Did you know Air Arms had brought out a new stock with an adjustable cheek piece for the TX200?. I was looking at it at this years shooting show. Where I was, it didnt recieve a great reception with a lot of moaning and grumbling.
@bigdansairguns83 Жыл бұрын
Hi Ian! A sleeve would do it along with a delrin top hat and spring guide. This one doesn't twang much however. Sometimes a simple grease can calm the twang down. I have seen the new TX and I think the main issue is the price.... they're incredibly expensive. No doubt a fantastic rifle but I think the price has put people off.

Thanks for another great video Dan was getting worried about you as not had a video for a while I have a tx 200 second hand 177 tuned by Welsh willy that's lovely and just got a tx hc 22 got to get used to it but so far very accurate the wife never shot a air rifle had 2 shots at card then flip targets hit 5 out of 5 at 17 yards now loves using it shows it's not hold sensitive. Love to see a shoot off could do with a 77 or 97 in my collection. Keep up the good work alan

Early mk3 in mk2 , 3 unequal spaced a/t notches and shrouded barrel
@bigdansairguns83 Жыл бұрын
Hi Andy! Although it doesn't come out on camera very well I believe it's four notches before it then finally locks, it's a "clack, clack, clack, clack..click" as it then locks. That said I'm far from an expert on TX200's so it may simply have the older stock which is a tad annoying if so.

Nice looking rifle, cracking review, I will keep my Cometa 400 and save some serious money. Nice to see you back Dan. Will watch your shoot out with the hw97. I nearly bought a hw98 a few weeks ago, but the Cometa was just as accurate up to 40 yards. The hw98 is a very heavy rifle, but we'll made. I don't like the crossbolt safety on them. The hw98 is nowhere near twice plus the rifle, the Cometa is.
@bigdansairguns83 Жыл бұрын
Hey Brandon! You've got to love Cometa simply for that fact. They prove you don't need to spend silly money to get an absolutely cracking rifle, their barrels are 2nd to none and the shot cycles are very very sweet. Have you ever tried a Fusion Brandon? It's the same action as the Fenix but my god are they accurate.
@brandonwood4914 Жыл бұрын
@@bigdansairguns83 No I haven't, but I have shot a HW 95 & the 98 and the Cometa is as accurate. The lad who owns the 95 told me after he shot mine, it was a better trigger on mine. Keep up the reviews Dan we have missed them👍 I watched the fusion 100 yard test very impressive.

@@brandonwood4914 Hi Brandon! Funny you mention that my next review should be a Mk2 Laminate Lynx if all goes well. This is what I've been saying the Cometa triggers need a bit of setting up but once sorted they're golden. Haha those groups I got with the 100 yard challenge are the highlight of my KZbin "career". The best shooting I've ever done and it shows what Cometa are capable of.

Hi Dan Great review on the tx200 I prefer the tx over the hw97 myself just a note on the one you reviewed it's not a mk2 it's a early mk3 the way to tell all the different models is the mk1 has no bear trap the mk2 has 10 click bear trap with the notches been equally spaced and the mk3 has 3 click bear trap with 2 notches been equally spaced and one slightly further away. They you go everyday a school day 👍

Sorry to say, but you have a MK3, the MK1 and MK2 had a "silencer" like the HW97 on the end of the barrel, the MK3 was introduced in 1998, the Fleur de Lis stocks are since 2007. So you do have the MK3 only in the "old" stock. Still a great gun. The other tell tale of the MK3 are the 3 notches for the anti beartrap. MK2 had 10 notches.

Thanks Dan , another great air rifle thoroughly tested & evaluated , pretty much the sort of results I had anticipated so nothing surprising , but it's just nice to see confirmation from a trusted source corroborating the findings of other reviewers . I've never actually had the chance to shoot any AA springers ,though I have tried a couple of their PCP's belonging to other shooters , Accurate and beautifully made , and virtually flawless in execution and performance they just left Me cold , they were just "Too Easy" to shoot well , Yes ! , I am biased I Love Springers and the challenges they necessarily present to shooters ,but I guess that's a big part of the attraction . Do You plan on doing a HW 90 Gas Ram revue ? , it would be an nice to see a comparison between that and its springer equivalent or may another "premium" brand gas ram . This gun from what i understand from air arms history is an earlier mk3 rifle which is the same as my rifle based on the bear trap design which has a staggered 1 + 2 notches on the loading trap. The mk1 had nothing, just plain and the mk2 has 3 notches spaced equal. So the mk1 was 91- 93 and mk 2 was 94 til 99 and mk3 was 99 until now. But the mk3 stock as we all know it the fish scale design did not come until 2006 so any gun made from 99-2006 was a mk3 tx200 but had the mk2 stock,

Any reason you mount your scope so high? On a side note your holding the gun when you cock it holding the bear trap down whilst you cock it is hardly game breaking
@bigdansairguns8312 күн бұрын
Hey Chaz. Lower mounts caused the scope to bottom out. Plus with my somewhat larger head I at times need higher mounts to get the correct eye alignment. In regards to the anti beartrap mechanism the whole system is just an undeniable faff, and a worse one if you want to cock the rifle quietly. The TX is a beautiful rifle and easily one of the best springers on the market but the safety mechanisms are poorly placed and thought out in my opinion.

Just read your reply to 4101, I think you are dead on. The fact that I depress the button whilst cocking is because I do not like the noise. A 97 type mechanism would be preferable. The cheap piece of metal on the 97 does not inspire confidence, but considering its been like that since God was a kid, who are we to argue with HW.
@bigdansairguns83 Жыл бұрын
Hi Stephen! Exactly, as I mentioned in the video I'm sure you can get used to it but it's a bit of a faff, using the button is a work around not standard practice if that makes sense. If Air Arms could make another TX using a similar system to HW or even close to that of some of the Chinese rifles with the release being placed behind the trigger blade you'd have the best underlever rifle on the market no question.
@stephengamble9388 Жыл бұрын
@@bigdansairguns83I agree. Personally I think both companies have sat back on the their laurels for the past decade. With no new innovations. The old adage "if its not broken" etc. Next for me is a Dianna Airking.
@johnmarsh2078 Жыл бұрын
If you cock the rifle with the anti-beartrap release button depressed, it removes the clicking and the gun is quiet to reload. Do you buy an XJ6 or a BMW 735? I'd buy British so the TX would get my vote, but to measure the performance/build quality difference you'd need a thin fag pper.
@bigdansairguns83 Жыл бұрын
As a Jaguar man it's XJ6 all day long! Yeah as mentioned in the review you can work around the noise but at the end of the day it's still a work around so it was fair to criticise in my opinion. It's still a fantastic rifle however.

Or just buy your TX in 1992 like I did, don't have a bear trap at all then.

IMO in HW97 vs.TX200 is a draw. Both have advantages and disadvantages. But in the end, when tuned, both are equally accurate. For me the main advantages of TX/Prosport it home easy it is to maintain, as it's very easy to disasemble. On the other hand, HW is way cheaper.
