@@Sir_Bucket Even then, it's not really fear, but confusion. Orks while not stupid, tend to have a one-track mind. Give them too many things to think about like "Oi! I thought we wuz s'pposed ter be winnin'" and they'll quickly run away until they forget what confused them in the first place or until they see a bigger ork running towards the fighting.

You really gotta hand it to Sindri for pulling his grand plan off. He was walking a tightrope of plotting from day 1. He had to form his whole plan. He had to swallow his pride and make himself seem weak, but not weak enough for Lord Bale to just kill him. He appeased the Orks at the to keep the marines busy. He had to let Bale think that he was in control the whole time, whereas Sindri hoped to rise on top at the end. When Sindri returned to the Warp, Tzeentch would have been proud.

The Squiggoth being in this mission's intro cutscene is a very simple yet very good example of setup and payoff. This thing exists. It's massive. It's crushing Orks underneath its feet. It resides within the main Ork base, which you are heading towards. The player gets a glimpse at how powerful it is, and, like you said, they know that they will have to fight it. On the flip side, 1:29 teases Whirlwinds and Assault Marines, Space Marine units that the player has never seen before, as units that the player might get to use, and the mission goes so far as to begin with them. This same segment also has Sindri mentioning that "we've even provided you with weapons and Imperial tanks to use on the battlefield." The player has already been introduced to Imperial tanks, in the form of Leman Russes, so the player is indirectly told even what this new Ork unit will be - the Looted Leman Russ. They still haven't been shown yet, though, so the player is rewarded if they are forward-thinking and attentive to details by being equipped to counter them. I could go on and on. The game is littered with examples of this, all achieved through cleverly made cinematics and simple but specific lines of dialogue.

That's game mechanics for you, bro, Orks are really never afraid of anything, but the morale bars they have show that they're not unstoppable as the Space Marines. It's said that if Orks have larger amounts of foot soldiers, they are immune to morale, which can be broken if that horde is reduced to none or the biggest of the Orks are killed. They don't really retreat, they only regroup in bigger and higher numbers and fight again and they would keep on doing this until they're all dead or they win unconditionally.

Old comment I know, but don't think of it as fear. Instead bear in mind that orks have simple minds. While not entirely stupid (any who mistakes them for such meet a humiliating end), they can be easily confused, for example if they find themselves being defeated in combat which contradicts their belief that they are "da bestest dere iz" and usually respond in one out of two ways. Either start hitting things until they forget why they were confused to begin with or run away until they see an ork larger than them running towards the fighting, a sight which reassures them that everything is as it should be and so they'll follow the larger ork into battle. Ork morale bars could more or less be called confusion levels.

As far as I can tell Orks release their spores when they die, making more Orks. So basically, fighting is like sex to them. It's the propagation of their species, whether or not they realize it. That said, think about how you feel about sex. You might enjoy it, but you wouldn't necessarily enjoy every sexual situation you could possibly be in. You have specific and distinct tastes. Instead of a moral bar, consider it a "this fight just ain't for me" bar. As the battle goes on against something demoralizing (snipers, daemons, and other demoralizing elements) It's not that they don't want to die fighting, it's just that that fight in particular isn't the fight they want to die in. I mean if it doesn't suit their particular tastes in who they like fighting, it makes sense to leg it, right? Sindri even describes the Ork need for fighting as "battle lust", I don't think it's that big a stretch

Tbh I kinda felt that if they made the Chaos Warband here Black Legion or a similar-minded legion (or hell, even a custom-made Chaos Warband like how Relic made the Blood Ravens), Lord Bale's incompetency would've been much more excusable since we could all assume he just brute-forced and beat his way to the top, but I find it hard to believe someone like Lord Bale could've made it so far in the Alpha Legion... Unless Sindri was always with him, and was just putting Bale up as the "official" leader so all attempts to backstab or take over as the warband's chaos lord would fall onto Lord Bale and not him.

I'm pretty sure Sindri being a Sorcerer of Khorne is just as bad. Generally though, Relic's portrayal of the Alpha Legion is really confusing. I'm really not sure why they didn't go with the Black Legion as their generic Chaos faction, because that's really what they are. They are the generic Chaos faction circa 2004, what with the massive Khorne focus, Defilers and Raptors.

Actually I can see difference between the DOW Warbosses and Ghazkull. By comparing the sizes of Orkamungus with Sindri and then Ghazkull to an actual sorceror(which was killed, damn that ork related cheese). I can conclude that Ghazkull is taller than the DOW warbosses, plus his weapons are on different arms.

He's sort of dead. His 'life' support needs are different from a Dreadnought's. He had to personally instruct Dorn on what modifications were needed for the Golden Throne. What's sitting on the Throne really is a corpse for all intents and purposes, while every Dreadnought still has a conscious marine inside. While it would be cool to see the entire Imperial Palace transform into the largest Dreadnought of all time, it's not happening.
