Tim, I used to chase my anvil around the shop as well but also didn't want to bolt it Down. So I tried putting a piece of maybe half inch thick foam rubber under the wooden block I have it on then trimming the foam right at the edge of the wood. It absent moved an inch ever since but I could still move it if I need to. Thanks for all the fun you help put into steel working.

That's smart. Certainly less work than what I was thinking: drill the floor and epoxy a couple big nuts into the hole. That would allow the anvil to be bolted down, unbolted to move freely, and keep anything from sticking out of the floor when it's not in use. Of course, you'd have to make a plug to keep crud out of the nuts other times.

Im not sure but i believe a swedge tool is used for swaging also swaging tool is a term often used, so you can swage with a swedge but you can't swegde with a swage

🤔 first time blade making3” hidden tang...can I use a propane torch to get it to non magnetic 🧲... and if so how long would it take to accomplish this before quenching? In inquiring minds need to know 🤪

It depends on the blade, a 3' sward no a 6" knife yes. it wont take but a few minuets and it will be ready to quench try to keep the heat even across the blade. good luck.
