LAST TWO POINTS: Each Country in Europe has its own league: Spain - LaLiga, England - Premier League, Germany - Bundesliga, France - League1, Italy - SerieA (These are the top 5 leagues), and many more leagues in different countries. (a) The league cup(3rd point) is a cup competition held within the league which holds the format of knockouts and NOT points basis where relegation teams, mid table teams and top teams compete with each other to end up with a cup winner in the finals. 3rd position is also determined. (b) The champions league is a league where the top 4 clubs (based on table standings from PREVIOUS season) from DIFFERENT top leagues compete with each other. So in 18/19 season you have top 4 clubs of 17/18 season from england, germany, spain, italy, france, portugal, etc (total 32 teams) competing with each other. The Europa league is a league where 5th and 6th positioned teams compete. The country league has matches on weekends while the league cup, the Champions league and Europa league have matches in midweek. CHAMPIONS LEAGUE FORMAT: 32 teams into 8 groups of 4 teams each with no two teams from same league. In each group, every team plays each team twice: Home and Away with the same 3/1/0 point system as in a league. After each team has played the 6 matches, top 2 teams are determined from each group and they qualify for the next round - round of 16. (The 3rd positioned teams qualify to Europa League.) From here on, we have the quarter finals, semi finals and then finals. Each knockout stage has 2 matches - home and away. Final is only one match at the end of the season. EUROPA LEAGUE: The 5th and 6th positioned teams compete here. Clubs knocked out of Champions League group stages (3rd position) join Europa league at different knockout stages.

I've watch quite a few Americans reacting to this video and pretty much all want to know the same things. One of the key disconnects is the understand of the two types of football competitions. There's CLUB football and INTERNATIONAL football and they are completely separate. This is often lost on Americans who outside of the Olympic Games, don't really have much understanding or experience with International sporting competition, certainly not when it comes to NFL, NBA, NHL and Baseball. With American sports, the greatest title you can possibly win are domestic titles such as the NBA Play Off Finals, the Super Bowl and the World Series, where as in Football, club completions are important (as important as they are in America) but not as Important as international football (England vs Argentina, Italy vs Brazil, Ghana vs the Japan etc ). Every professional football player would Ideally like to win trophy's in the following order .. 1. The World Cup - Every 4 years you play for your country against other countries so there's lots of flag waving and getting behind your national side (that's if they qualified for the month long tournament of 32 teams). Patriotism is a beautiful thing to see when it is at the sporting level and is never better than when it manifest ever four years for a whole month in the form of World Cup football. 2. The European Cup - (each region has an equivalent competition i.e. "South American Championship"- "African Cup of Nations" and "Asian Cup." but the European cup has the most prestige). These are all international tournaments that stipulate that you can only represent the country of your birth (or have citizenship). 3. The European Champions Leagues - is the most important international "CLUB" football completion, (I repeat CLUB competition) where players from all over the world are allowed to play for teams based in Europe such as Manchester United, Real Madrid, AC Milan, Arsenal etc. It is an international completion but it is an International "CLUB" competition so you only play against other CLUBS sides from other countries. 4. League Title - Winning the regular season League Title competition would make you the top team in your respective countries domestic league and qualify you and the 2nd, 3rd and even 4th placed teams (depending on how strong your league is) to represent your country in the next years European Champions League competition. 5. The Cup (like the play offs) - Many countries like England have two cup completions. The FA Cup which is like the Super bowl (not so much nowadays though) and the League Cup. Until Americans started to pay attention to the World Cup (1994), the only other occasion where national pride could be shared on a sporting level was the Olympic Games. And no disrespect to the Olympics but it is not the same thing. The Olympic is made up mostly of sports that people only care about every four years (Athletics, swimming, gymnastics etc) where as the World Cup is centred around the WORLDS GAME, affording the opportunity to experience the passion and excitement of seeing the nations of the world go to war and do battle... There's truly nothing like it..

I would also add that the national things (Euros, WC, Copa American (the south american equivalent of the euros, Argentina won it last year)) take place every 4 years (with 2 years inbetween Euros and WC for example) while all the Club things take place every year.

@@alinac5512 Yes Alina and the recent talk from FiFA to make the world cup happen every 2 years (as first suggested by former Arsenal manager Aresne Wenger), is just the stupidest idea. I would prefer it if they were made even less frequent like every five years then more frequent. Every 2 years is much too soon. It's the long wait that makes it's arrival feel so special.

In football(soccer) you have 5 big leagues when it comes to europe thats (germany the league is called bundesliga,england the league is called premier leugue,spain the league is called Laliga,Italy called Seri A, France called ligue 1 and sometimes the dutch ligue is also considert a big league......so lets say last year in the premier league the first 4 teams are going into the champions league for next year(clubs fight to be in the top 4 so they can be in this competition because clubs get so much money and you can provoke many talented players to your club) and then the president and coworkers of this competiton draw (like a lottery) with balls and the team names are insight thes balls to see who is going to be in wich group or who is going to play who!!!

Some quotes from these points you seem to have missed: Point 1: "Each country has it's own league" (Europe is not a country, you seemed to be aware but I'm just making sure) Point 2: "Imagine if the Pittsburgh Pirates or Oakland Raiders had to fight at the end of each season just to stay in the league?" I think US sports would change for the better, imo. Imagine if college football was the official 2nd division so you battle not only for the league title but also for a season with the big bois? (Also there'd be an incentive to finally start paying these athletes...) Point 3: "There are no Playoffs, kinda (...)" In Germany, every team in the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and certain teams from the 4th division are taking part in round 1 of this Cup competition. Technically, anyone COULD advance all the way just like a wildcard team can play in the Super Bowl if they don't lose in the playoffs. The Cup is basically an elimination tournament with a single(!) game so it's actually not entirely unlikely for giants to be felled by smaller teams. My club, 1st division side Eintracht Frankfurt won something for the first time in 30 years: the German Cup "...Only to be knocked out of our own competition just 3 months after lifting the trophy by a division 4 side, SSV Ulm. Ulm is known for it's cathedral, not for their football team*." Point 4: Imagine all countries in South and North America played a tournament of the best club(s) in their countries competing against each other. In Europe the resulting number of teams is 32 which play each other in 8 groups of 4 to have the two top teams per group enter an elimination style tournament where you play your opponent once at home, once on the road. The final is a single game. About the difference in between basketball's "game 7" and football's (yeah, you know which one) single final game tradition: Multiple finales lead to an increased likelihood the best, most consistent team will win while within a single game anything can happen. It's like Boxing with only 1 round, you'd not go all out since you're doubly conscious of not letting your opponent get easy hits in. * That was a quote from a personal favorite of mine when it comes to YT football culture: Copa 90 goes to Germany to see the "DFB Pokal (German Football Assoc. cup)". Here's the link to the video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/aYu8ppadnbdnjLc Have a good one, sorry this got so long.

nice, just wanna say that when you said that "Point 4: Imagine all countries in South and North America played a tournament of the best club(s) in their countries competing against each other." it's a little bit complex in americas, teams from south america (Guyanas and Suriname) plays with central america teams, Mexico used to play Copa Libertadores (South American UCL version) but now they only play the north american tourneament.

Hey Big Donch, the video starts by saying every country in Europe has its own league so of course Germany has its own league. Each country has its own league and each league has several divisions i.e.1st, 2nd, 3rd etc. Remember Europe is roughly the size of America meaning that each country (there's 44) is the size of one of your 52 states, so travelling from one country to another in Europe is like travelling from state to state in America. And I don't know if you realise this but the reason America has a playoff system is because America is so big that it would involve way to much travelling to play every single team in the league (home and away). In America, you have a divisions system to limit the amount of travel time where as in Europe the division system is to denote leagues strength. i.e. division 1 is the strongest league and you can get promoted to the strongest league if you come 1st, 2nd or 3rd, in the league below, (replacing the bottom three teams). In England for example there are 4 professional Division (the other divisions are semi professional). The Premier league (the top division) has 20 teams and the next three divisions have 24 teams each. league

Champions League is international, it's for all best European clubs from all countries (depending on how good each country league is usually 1-4 best clubs from that country qualify to play in Champions League). The 3rd thing (the Cup) was unrelated to Champions League - it's like alternative to regular national leagues. For example in Germany there's Bundesliga (they play for points and who has more points wins), and there's Cup (they play tournament style). It's similar in most countries. But the Cup is less important than the national league win. So, a football club in Europe can win 3 trophies at most. In the order of importance - Champions League, National league, and the national Cup. When a club wins all three it's called "winning a treble" and very few clubs managed that.

Every country has it's own league. For example here in Romania, we have "Liga 1 Betano" and we also have a competition called "Cupa Romaniei". This competition is played by the teams from the first to the Fourth division. The champions league is a competition for the best teams in Europe. Only the teams that finished first or second(depends on the leage) are able to play in Champions League. There are 8 groups and only the first 2 teams from each group go further in the competition, the third one goes to "Europa League" and the 4th one has to go home. I hope this helped a little

Its easier than what it seems. While teams are playing the league theres also a cup that teams play in between which is just knockout rounds and in there teams from several division can play, that means, a 4th division team can beat a top 1st division (all the countries have at least one league, it doesn't matter how popular or good it is). The best teams of every country, chosen bc of the league results classifies to the Champions League (champion, 2nd and 3rd of the league, for example, it depends of each country). The Champions League is an European tournament to see who is the best team of Europe, thats why it is so important!

A little bit of explanation of the Champions League, I hope it's helpful. Ok so as you saw before, each country has its own league. The 4 best teams of each league qualify for the Champioms League. For example, let's say the Spanish League. Right now you have Barcelona, Real Madrid, Sevilla and Real Sociedad on the top 4. If by the end of the season, these 4 teams are still in the on the top 4, they qualify for next year's Champions League. Example: 2019-2020 season top 4 teams qualify for 2020-2021 season Champions League 2020-2021 season top 4 teams qualify for 2021-2022 Champions League, and so on and so forth. I hope this is helpful for you, sorry if I confused you more than you were before🤣. It's very cool to see new people who are interested in football and want to know more about the sport. Believe me football is a sport that you'll get to love and enjoy more than you imagine. Keep up the good work🤙

@LuisGonzalez-ht7hs 4 жыл бұрын
In a league you have divisions, Division 1 which is the best, Division 2, 3, 4 etc. Lets say the Premier League(England), Premier League is Division 1, the league has 20 teams. By the end of the season, the 3 worst teams(which are the ones with the least amout of points) move to division 2, that's when Relegation comes in, and the top 3 Division 2 teams move up to Division 1. Basically, worst 3 Division 1 teams go down. Best 3 Division 2 teams move up im their own league(country) The Relegation system happens in every league(country) like in Spain, France, Germany etc.

The Premier League is for English teams only. All the other countries have their own leagues (with various names (eg The German League is called the Bundesliga). The qualification process for the Champions League is rather complicated but it is basically the champions (plus sometimes the second, third and even fourth team) from each country. In order to weed out some of the weaker teams (for example champions of such countries as Malta and Luxembourg) there is a knockout competition (known as the qualifying rounds). The countries that normally have the most teams are Spain (two of the teams are Barcelona and Real Madrid), England (Manchester City, Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur, Liverpool to name a few), Italy (Juventus) and Germany (Bayern Munich). The Cup competition is a separate competition and is normally straight knockout - Lose and you are out. These games can be the most exciting. My advice from someone who has been watching football (not soccer, please) for over fifty years is stick with it, understand it and you will love it. Oh, and by the way there is a lot more to watch than just the best players (Messi, Ronaldo etc). Watch the rubbish teams, the fans singing and the cock ups - I have - My local team once got to the second tier in England (now called the Championship) but are normally in the third, four or even fifth level. For the best fun (and heartache) pick a team, stick with them through thick and thin and when they have some success it can be as pleasureable as winning the Champions League.

@@BigDonch I remember you saying in one of your videos that you prefer defenders because they are more physical. If that is what you like you should try and find videos from the 1960s and 1970s. Football was much dirtier then. In England every team had at least one dirty player. There were players such as "Chopper" Harris (I can't even remember his first name) and Norman "Bites your Legs" Hunter (died recently of coronavirus). Italy (and Italian teams) were famous for their defensive play and they would try any trick in the book to win. By the way Virgil Van Dyke plays for Liverpool (who won the Champions League last year and are about to win the English Premier League this year (at present suspended because of Covid19)). Most football rules are fairly simple with the possible exception of the offside rule. Enjoy.

"Every country has their OWN SEPARATE FOOTBALL LEAGUE"! What's so hard to understand.? EVERY COUNTRY! England and Scotland and Spain and Belgium and Russia and Slovakia and........ Each country also has one (or two) knock-out tournaments - EACH COUNTRY! The best of the clubs in each country come together in the second half of the season in the Champions League to decide the best club in Europe. These leagues and competitions are all for CLUB TEAMS!. The European (and Asian and American (continent) and Africa...) have tournaments every four years at which NATIONAL teams compete. Even the USA has a national team in football, unlike sports like American "Football", and it usually plays in the four-yearly world cup alongside teams representing England, Germany, Brazil, South Africa, Japan, etc, etc, etc.
