There seems to be a lot of hate towards Chip Foose in the comment section for some reason. They say, wherever there's hate there's jealousy. Personally, I love the amplifier design but then again I grew up in that era and I was extremely passionate towards radical car designs like this and hot rodding itself, so I guess I can relate more to the overall theme that this amplifier represents.

I remember these from back in the day. I had a few Arc amps, but sold them and replaced them with the Clairion amps that had the same Zeff designed boards. Those were a steal back then. I had three of the APX1000.2 amps in my system at that time.

Nice review Big D! BTW, aluminum curved end caps would be much, much more expensive than the plastic ones due to the shape and multiple steps during manufacture. The curved heat sinks are extruded, so they're not overly expensive compared to more common shapes, but metal end caps require many more steps compared to plastic ones for limited production runs.

Back then was not much on the Foose design amps but was happy he went with arc to work with. Im more for the Signature Edition by Robert Zeff and or the old zapco amps Zeff made. For me Zeff was the go to when comes to SQ and power. Same time many really good amps made back then and if any thing still better than a lot of new ones, unless you really need crazy power.

Sold arc audio for years thru dow electronics as my distributor. Great sq amps and subs and mids and highs. But they got way too pricey for what they offered. Subs are good but can’t handle power of today and are priced like they can. Amps and dsp are really good. But they thought since they put stuff in foose rides they over priced everything….

I love Arc Audio, they are hands down far better than almost any brand out there. They have some of the cleanest amps that put out the lowest distortion but idk WTF they were thinking when they made these amps lmao they are some of the ugliest designs. I have seen a few on ebay for around 200. I had no doubt that they would do rated power but if you want to hear this amp work at its best, DONT MAX IT OUT TO THE RATED POWER YOU SEE IN THE VIDEO
@minus3dbintheteens60
@minus3dbintheteens60 7 ай бұрын
why? does it have a rising distortion curve?
@bennyblanco14
@bennyblanco14 7 ай бұрын
@minus3dbintheteens60 when arc audio puts out its RMS ratings. It's never at 1% distortion but half. When an amp puts out more power than rated, distortion also rises like 3rd and 5th harmonic. For example, it could have risen higher and is audible. I know many people here, including myself, at one point used to think that if an amp does more than rated power, it has to be good? Wrong? It's rated at its best performance.

It has an incredible >3345 Damping factor rating, which is the highest publish DF rating I’ve ever seen, not sure that equates to anything audible though, interesting… Should push my SI HT18v3 to Xmax pretty well though : )

Hi, I've got a question about amps. I'm looking for an amp with specific specifications to power a sub in my Hybrid. My head unit is a Sony DSX GS80 which already draws 180 watts rms and pulls a max of 15 amps. The Sony powers all my door speakers but I want a second small amp to power one 8 inch JBL STAGE 82am. I'm going off of crutchfields recommendation that I shouldn't exceed 350 watts rms or 30 amps total draw from my 12v battery. Me already using up half of that with my head unit lies my dilemma for finding an amp that wont fry the electricals on my car. Is there any amp you could recommend that might fit the need of not exceeding around 150 watts rms as well as being usable with a 15 amp fuse?

Sort of a marketing gimmick. I guess they are cheap enough, but just another Asian made amp, similar to the Maxxsonics "West Coast Custom amps". However, ARC still does make their "CXLR" amps in the USA, by hand, like back in the day...a rare American made survivor. Not cheap, but I would consider buying one, as well as "TRU", "Linear Power" and "MMATS" still has a line made in FLA. and a few other (very few) American made amps.
@raymo6795
@raymo6795 7 ай бұрын
@@SeanOMatic …..maybe, but unlikely. Zeff probably has a team of competent designers. As does Maxsonics. The magic of Zapco and early Arc are long gone. These are run of the mill amps. However, the CXLR are likely a source of pride and a bridge to the past when quality and design was more important than profit. These are probably decent amps, just not what I am interested in. But I would be interested in the CXLR amps.
@raymo6795

@@SeanOMatic ….like so many other legacy brands. The “ Blackbird “ would be of interest if it were made in America…I don’t believe it is. But I have no doubt it is a fine amplifier, but at that price, I will find an American made alternative, perhaps European. I currently use AudioTech Fischer/ Helix/ BRAX/ Match because they are German made and integrate into my German vehicles easily….. I would not dream of a Maxxsonics product, although, they probably are decent and use tried and true designs for those on a budget.

@@SeanOMatic I have 2 DSPMatch amps (PP86,8channel and a PP62 6 channel). I miss tuning an amp by ear, with a small screwdriver. I am an Apple guy. I had to buy a laptop for the DSP tuning and figure out all that shit. I have become disenchanted with the DSP craze. My best systems did not have DSP. The DSP systems are installed in my Audis. But I also have a 97 M3. That has a Pioneer head unit ,a Helix C4 and a Helix C1 with Micro Precision speakers, and a Brax 10" sub. All processing is done through HU. It is my favorite system of all my cars. I am not terribly enamored with the DSP trend., But I hate to mess with new cars electronics, and the Match/DSP systems are an easy upgrade without cutting into fibre optics and the like.
