That would be me (Michael Miller - I was the musical director and the theme composer for Solid Gold). At the end of the taping for each episode, Andy and I would sit down to go over possible songs for him to sing for the next episode. He at first didn’t think he had the range for this song, but I’m glad I was able to convince him otherwise, because he ended up singing it beautifully (as you know)!

Thank you for the accurate information.About 4 months ago I got my hands again on the encyclopedia I bought 1982 and found out that he is the sister of the Bee Gees and sings./I’m a few years younger than Andy./ I don’t remember ever hearing it on the Hungarian radio.So I looked it up online.Andy is a singer with an irreplaceabla and inimitable voice in my opinion.I embrace you with my heart.@@bigeyezzzzzzz

Well, to take on a Barbra Streisand song is like taking on a holy grail of music. Barbra is her own music brand. Andy took that song and made it his own here. I like it when the opposite gender takes on a song popularized by the opposite gender, as in this case. Not only that, but Andy made it look and sound good as well. He was so young here, maybe only 23 years old. He seemed to have an approach on this song that was well beyond his years. Andy would be 63 if he were still with us. It would have been nice for him to be around as an "elder statesman" of music. He was gone way too soon.
