That was Andy Gibb in the intro. Andy has passed on, as have his brothers Maurice and Robin. May they rest in peace. Only Barry remains. What a talented family! They dominated the charts in the 70's! They actually had many hits in the 60's as well, and wrote several hits for other people.

I remember listening to this several times while flying over the South China Sea in 1982. I worked in haulage in Saudi Arabia. I'd just split up with my wife after being home for Christmas in England and went to the Philippines to recruit drivers. I flew back via Bangkok and Singapore and airline media was less sophisticated then. This song probably came up every tenth song on a loop. I got over it, as we do, but this always brings back that heartache.

I watched the Kenny Rogers tribute concert weeks ago when it aired on TV. It was filmed before the pandemic. Broadway singer Idina Menzel sang Sheena's part in We've Got Tonight. Idina said that she was intimidated by Sheena's vocal range. Ironically, Idina had a recurring role on Glee as Rachel's biological mother. Glee did a cover of We've Got Tonight in one of it's last seasons.

She shaped the sound of the 80's for singers. She bridged the singer-songer writer era of the 70's and married it with the new wave that created the 80's and this is the result. Even Prince was impressed and had to work with her. She co-wrote with him and Prince wrote Sugar Walls for her.
