Bigfoot specialist and cryptozoologist Cliff Barackman explores the best evidence available for the existence of sasquatch as a real species. Barackman includes Indigenous artifacts, footprint casts, film and photo evidence, and more.
Cliff Barackman has been doing bigfoot field research since 1994. His expeditions have taken him to 46 states and five continents in search of evidence supporting the existence of undiscovered hominoids worldwide.
As the evidence analyst on Animal Planet's "Finding Bigfoot," Cliff has applied his skill and expertise to a variety of photographic, video, film, and sound evidence. He has appeared on many other television shows and documentaries as a bigfoot specialist and cryptozoologist.
Cliff is especially familiar with the footprint and handprint evidence for sasquatches, and he is the curator for one of the largest collections of cast evidence in the world. His collection includes impressions from North America, Asia, Australia, and Europe. Cliff and his wife Melissa own and curate the North American Bigfoot Center in Boring, Oregon, which features the largest public collection of bigfoot evidence in the Pacific Northwest.
Besides his bigfoot interests, Cliff also is an accomplished guitarist. You can often find him quietly strumming on the porch of his rural property on the western slopes of Mount Hood, deep in the heart of sasquatch country.

I've also heard a Native lady say of this rock art that BF is crying b/c he doesn't want them to be scared of him. Everyone was running away when they saw one. BF was lonely b/c of this. SO....there's always another story it seems. I'm Native American. My tribe considers them to be just another type of people. One tribe even spoke their language and traded with them. He came to help my tribe with the planting and harvesting of crops, then in winter headed back west and north towards his home. So many stories....

In Australia, the Gabbi Gabbi, who are the first nation people and traditional custodians of my land, which is now known as the Sunshine Coast, Qld, say of the local ones that there is a more friendly type, but there is another type with whom you have to exercise extreme caution, as they are naturally aggressive, maybe even hateful, and should not be trusted. These ones have a more pointed head. There is an interview on Yowie Hunters channel with a Gabbi Gabbi man who saw one. It is the Wappa Dam episode if anyone wants to check it out. It is very interesting. I could have listened to him for hours.

Your weapon is not enough should it decide to attack. Its not some dumb animal that will charge at you from 50 yards away in the open. It is a master of the environment in ways we can't comprehend. In the woods, humans are like clumsy children, compared to them. They would already know your route, where one of a family group would go ahead, while others shepard u to the kill zone. The one that went ahead would then drop down from the tree branches above and despatch u before u raise your gun. They go in trees, as there scent is harder to detect, but also like there typical food sources, deer, elk etc, humans don't look up into trees. Especially when a human is spooked with adrenaline surge. Humans look ahead, behind, 360 degrees, but rarely up. They know we don't look up.

I'm positive Bigfoot is real. I personally have seen one, in Oregon, over by Hood River. It was in the mid 90s. I did report it. This was before cellphones. Growing up in Oregon and camping in the Blues, Cascades and coastal mountains, I have heard and smelled them as well. You will never forget the experience when you have them. Found one track, heard two talking to each other in the woods, ive also had gifting, twice. Now it gets weird. .. ive also experienced telepathy, psychic visions, poking and tapping at home and while camping. Ive also felt a buzzing vibe (goose bumps and skin shivers) when close to them. I think they are doing that psychically, not infrasound. Lastly, i had a close encounter sighting in 2013 while camping in a wild area.

I recall an interesting program that had Jeff Meldrum on it, perhaps 15-20 years ago, where he discussed the dermal ridges, the 'fingerprints' on a plaster casting. If I recall correctly, he said that the patterns of dermal ridges in humans run in one direction, those of known primates run a different direction and the ones on the bigfoot casting run still a third different direction. That's what sold me on Bigfoot's existence. One might be able to make a fake casting, but highly unlikely that anyone could include the fine details of dermal ridges, and different than humans or other primates. I've had several experiences that fall into the Class B category, like rock-throwing, banging stones together, vocalizations, unusual footprints in sandy areas, etc.

Cliff, with drone technology becoming more affordable every year, it would seem to me that "hot spots" could be surveilled much easier. As someone else said, drones are very loud and on top of that can only stay up for a short period of time, usually less than an hour up to maybe two if you have a very expensive drone. I had a 8K drone that had night vision and could stay up in the air for about 45 minutes to an hour. Now, it could travel at 45 to 50 mph to get somewhere fast and it could fly about 2 to 3 miles away from my location, with the issue being because you aren’t near it, You can only make guesstimate based off of the live video feed, as to how close anyone object is. Now the good thing about my drone is it has sensors that let you know if something is within 10 to 15 feet. But I think best case scenario, in the fall or winter when there are no leaves on the trees, you may be able to see something… But zooming in is going to give you the same results as you normally see on the films and that is the blurriness. Even at 8K there’s only so far you can go before things start looking blurry due to compression. Best case scenario, you have a Drone with a large camera, say a 1 inch, preferably 2 inch, lens that can catch better low light… you might have a better chance, but due to the fact that these things can only stay up in the air for so long and make so much noise… Not to mention you can only get so close… It’s really not much better than being on the ground. I have always said that best case scenario is to put up dozens, if not hundreds, of 4K cameras with night vision and leave them stationary recording 24 hours a day, with solar panels providing them power and huge memory cards to keep them going for weeks and months if not more at a time. It’s probably going to be the only way to catch real proof, that can be examined. Because if you locate the cameras in a circular pattern away from each other, maybe each camera 20 feet away from the next, you could catch the movement from camera to camera and catch the movement and the behaviors, not to mention may be the migratory pattern and socialization of the creatures. Even if we get the clearest, most convincing footage through multiple cameras… I think until there is a body, science is never going to admit one way or the other these things exist. Because without existential proof, no one is going to want to put their degree or reputation on the line for theoretical hypothesis. When they work so hard for so many years to build up that reputation. Which is why you don’t see many try to prove or disprove them. I’m sure, if you put the evidence in front of them they will look over it , but quietly and with extreme skepticism. Believe me, I would say 50 to 75% of them would love for it to be true and for them to of helped with the discovery. But, they wouldn’t put their neck on the line or their career, unless they were 100% convinced. If anybody has that kind of proof, it’s probably our government. Because through satellite technology, Infrared and infinite tracking capabilities… It would be easy enough for them to not only find one of these things in the wilderness through its own body heat, but track it and know exactly where it essentially lives and camps out. Therefore, being able to locate and know 100% whether or not these things are real. But, just as until recently, they hid the fact that UFOs exist. They are probably doing the same with these creatures, fearing that hunters will destroy them. Especially if there’s not a whole bunch of them left around the world. So who knows. Truthfully, the kid inside me ever since I was six years old or maybe even younger, wants it to be true and them to be real. But, the scientist in my brain wants what everybody else does, solid proof. So I’m hopeful, but rightfully skeptical. Thinking it’s very possible that Native Americans invented stories of this creature, simply to scare the kids from going in the woods and getting attacked by a bear or something. And also maybe their enemies, thinking that they can also be attacked and killed by them. We will truly never know until it is 100% proven. Again, I absolutely want them to be real. I think it would be awesome to have something like that still existing and surviving in this world. Then again, if we find out the truth, how much risk does it put their species in? Because you know that psycho hunters would want to pursue, kill and stuff one of these things… to have sitting in their house for bragging purposes. So is it best that we don’t find these things?

I think today we are so accustomed to having instant access to pictures and scientific agreement and entire schools of information on every animal under the sun that we have totally forgotten than only 100 to 200 years ago the majority of average people had no idea that most of the amazing animals we all know about today existed. Lions, tigers, elephants are all animals that people would pay to see at circuses and zoos because they didn't have any other access to seeing them like digital or even analog photographs. Those animals were as mythological as dragons just a few hundred years ago...... So, this manner of taking things for granted blinds us to the possibility that we already have discovered this creature and are encountering great difficulty in establishing it because of its extraordinary preference for remaining hidden, not from other wild animals, but specifically from us

We could clearly see everything about it, the face had a remarkable resemblance to a gorilla but also kinda human like, looking at his or her size was mesmerizing , shocked and in disbelief at what has happened we new this wasn't a creature anymore, it's the real deal right in front of us, I'm so glad we had the privilege to witness this, we never said anything to anyone for decades except between us, the thought of being ridiculed stopped us from talking about it. I'M now 60 and don't give a damn what people say or think about it, I tell the story now no matter what they say,we know it was a sasquatch or bigfoot, so just because people don't see them doesn't mean they don't exist, seeing is believing and me and him have to believe.

Here's my experience for what it's worth. My husband and I liked to camp around mt. Ranier. I was up one morning about 3, dont remember why. All of a sudden I heard a sound that was like a whole stadium full of people yelling. It was not an elk, Ive heard elk bellow and holler before and it was nothing like that. It was exactly what about 1000 humans hollering at the same time feels lke. I woke D. Up and asked him 'which battalion is out here doing maneuvers?( He was assigned to Ft. Lewis at the time). He said that none to his knowledge. Then I thought hell its too late in the year for BS Jamboree. It was on the Art Bell show years later I heard a recording and let me tell you-it was so similar it might have been recorded right there. Now Ive heard a lot of people say its impossible...but If bear can live up there than why not a bigfoot? Maybe they are few in number and solitary. I have seen some pretty convincing evidence. I would say at the end of the day there is a LOT about this world we still dont know.

All of a sudden outnof nowhere we heard a grunting and sounded like a elephant coming thru the trees. I don't think I ever ran so fast in my life like I did that day. In fact there were two different sizes foot prints that crossed the highway per say to the river back up the mountain in the woods and you could tell whatever it was wad allowing the next to rest on the easy up the hill there were four spots patted out like a bear makes

A couple of comments from -- yes a skeptic, with 2 decades of working in primate behavioral research. First, I applaud you for trying to take a balanced view and putting science in the mix. And I found a lot of the presentation interesting, especially the morphology of the feet. Where things fall apart a bit is the same issue I have with true believers of lots of things, in that you repeatedly fall back on a well known logical fallacy called The Appeal to Ignorance, which says, "If you can't provide me with a better explanation, then it follows that my hypothesis is correct." In this interview you said on a couple of occasions, "The skeptics have to explain this." No, they don't. Their inability to explain it does not constitute evidence supporting any theory. In another point you showed the high correlation between black bear territory and Sasquatch reports, saying dismissively that if it's not actual Sasquatches, then the only other possible explanation is that people in those areas lie more often. Again, we're dealing with an Appeal to Ignorance. "I can't think of another explanation, therefore my hypothesis is correct." In fact there is another very simple explanation. Black bears are large shaggy mammals who often stand up on their hind limbs to examine something they're curious about. So, perhaps there are more sasquatch reports from black bear territory because there is a dense population of a species that might be mistaken for a sasquatch, resulting in more cases of mistaken identity. I'm not saying that is the case, just noting that there is at least one possibility that wasn't taken into account, and there could be many others. There are lots of variables. The other issue for me is making the assumption that a controversial bit of video is real and then judging all others against it. If it's real, that may be helpful. If it's not real, you could end up discounting the one real clip that shows up because it doesn't match the preconceived idea from the PG clip. Those objections aside, though, you've given me some interesting stuff to think about. You may dismiss me as a "Scofftic" as I've heard you say many times, but if I didn't have an open mind and an interest, I woudn't have spent all that time watching your presentation.

When Sasquatch is proven to exist, the public will demand that they be protected and their habitat must be protected. That would probably mean a massive loss $$ from potential forestry operations, then there is the outdoor recreation angle, alot of people would no longer go into the forests, or hiking/biking, camping, remote fishing, because it will frighten alot of people away, whether or not these creatures are dangerous. Culturally I don't think we're mature enough to try and verify these things. Everyone's got an opinion and so many people refuse to take things like this seriously. "Conventional wisdom" is that whenever someone reports seeing a sasquatch that person is either a malicious liar or just spinning a good yarn. Nobody believes anyone even when they're people with unimpeachable character. You've also got scientists denying evidence and trying to gaslight witnesses or just paint people as being unreliable in general. "Oh, it was probably just a bear with mange." "It had a flat face though." "Bear with mange that ran into a brick wall face-first then." Seriously, it's not that strange that we haven't really found anything concrete since the Patterson footage. Nobody with the resources and time on their hands to do any proper searching is looking for it because they've already written it off out of arrogance, hubris, and immaturity.

Many native cultures (most? all?) identify them as spirit people, and that has been my experience, having been gifted with stick structures in the back yard and on the front sidewalk of my home in a dense residential neighborhood of a big city, as well as everywhere around my cabin. Our science knows almost nothing about consciousness, which matter exists in the service of. Note: Those large heads have large brains, and the sixth sense is their first sense, and the ways that they can use it leave us to brand them paranormal and scratch our little heads.

I’ve been close to one in My road. ( I live in the foothills southwest of Denver on a private dirt road). Yelling like someone was being killed. I scared it off. Shoulda grabbed my camera or phone but it was 4:30 am and it woke me up and I wasn’t ready for it. It vibrated my chest. It was spooky. I could make it out but only a silhouette. I measured the power pole it was buy ant it was over 8’ tall. It moved like it was on ice. No sound. So fast. I couldn’t believe it. i really enjoyed listening to this with my family while making sushi. I've had my own experiences with sasquaches here on haida gwaii and the smell of them here you can never forget. where i live it's surrounded by the ocean and miles of shoreline and sometimes full of rotting kelp. i used to have 2 big lab/pitbull crosses and they would run off, jump in the sea, roll in the rotting kelp, play and hunt animals on their own. its the only time i ever smelt anything close to what i smelt out when my family and i were camping out at jalen river (without our dogs, i wish we took them). we had to get out there by seine boat and use a skiff to get up on shore to set our net. we set up camp and my parents left us to camp on our own and to watch the net. after a long day of setting up the net and exploring we felt something watching us but didnt pay much attention. our parents got my brother to take them back to the boat and come back with the skiff. we had the fire going good and it was a calm night. we didnt mind being on our own until my little brother (9 at the time) started to get scared and demanded to be brought back to the boat and i wasnt going to stay there alone in the twilight. so we all got in and drove through the waves to bring my brother in, and when we got there my dad was swearing and trying to say we're just being babys, and my baby brother 9 told him to go stay out there then, and baby brother went inside while my other brother 15 and i sat in the boat waiting for my dad to come with us, no way we were going alone. back to camp, Me, my dad and brother were building up the fire and we talked a bit and went to bed, i told my dad to sleep in the middle because he had arthritis so i thought he'd be warmer there, but i came to regret that because i was frozen and scared all night because of the sounds i heard outside our tent while my brother and dad snored and slept peacefully. i was so angry they wouldn't wake up. it started by throwing things at our tent for awhile, it came from the forest behind us (the river infront of us, fire to our left side, river went into the forest to our left as well). it slowly walk closer, and was so quiet for being so big. (the fire was still bright as heck because it wasnt very long after my dad and brother were snoring), all of a sudden it stepped in front of the light, and the whole tent went dark. i was frozen! my heart sank and my heart beat slowed with my breathing, trying to eliminate any sense of myself while i laid there listening and watching. i can now hear the gravel under its feet and the light from the fire came back as it walked around to the front of our tent and got into the water, i can hear splashing for awhile. i knew it was pulling fish out of our net and there was another one close to the side i was sleeping on(far right). i didnt make a sound all night, i stayed frozen and by the time the sun came up and everyone woke up i cried, i finally was able to breathe, and i told them what happened. i slept during the day and we all stayed on the boat after that. I've never felt so scared for my life than i was that night. i figure we were lucky we left the net down to catch fish, otherwise we would probably be missing right now. it wouldnt take much for them just to scoop us up in that tent. i still get tense telling that story. it freaks me right out.

I'd watched a video where the Patterson-Gimlin video was scientifically analyzed, and they'd enhanced the face, and it showed articulation of the lower jaw as it opened and closed. The one thing that caught my eye in the film was you could see the gluteal muscle contract and flex during walking, because it was so large. A man in a gorilla or any other sort of getup, wouldn't even be considered, especially in the 60s to fake or have the ability to. It would have to be actual muscle and sinue to move in that fashion

My dog was standing with me. After it stopped I asked my dog , what was that. I then started noticing tree structures in the woods. I found footprints around my house, large and small. I recently had someone arguing with me that Bigfoots do not exist. His reasoning was that he knew a guy with big rubber feet to put on and scare people in campgrounds. The Patterson/Gimlin film I first saw in the early 1970s was the proof I needed but apparently the Bigfoot was too far away for most people to get a clue about its size, movements, body structure, muscles flexing, ETC. The Bigfoot even had large boobs indicating it was a female but these idiots want to believe it's still somehow a person in a costume. The goal now is to get UP CLOSE video that can't be denied by most skeptic. Wish "Finding Bigfoot" would do their job and actually help with this endeavor.

I have a hard time with this. I am Quileute native, a small tribe on the NW coast of WA state. All of our stories in my tribe and surrounding tribes are known to be fake. Ours was covered in Seaweed. Not hair, she came to steal kids at night. I don't like our oral traditions being taken and twisted. The Olympic National Park and Hoh River rain forest is still one of the only untouched wilderness and most lush forests left. I grew up every day and night in these woods. The SALISH people don't call them Sasquatch. We also have no evidence of totems or carved lodges with these creatures. We do have stories of water beasts, backed by artwork. No one here will listen so I will leave you with this...when Mt Saint Helen's blew, 26 mega tons of TNT was its equivalent. Lahars traveled for over 50 miles and emptied into the Columbia River, it caused caverns and Lakes to form in nature's intended way, it killed all matters of life. It rained ash for weeks and disrupted our eco system in every way possible. Animals we didn't know were still around were found and until we saw the bodies, we thought they were gone. This includes birds, reptiles and mammals. Where was this bigfoot??? Some of these stories are offensive, all natives are different! This may be a shock, but it's true. We don't have the same stories and don't even look the same. You can't take bits and pieces from every tribe and create evidence. I'm only trying to give you a perspective from a culture and people that OTHERS CLAIM IS TRUE STORIES of OUR OWN stories. It's disrespectful. The stories were meant for children to keep them in the village at night. There are very real and very dangerous predators we share our land with. New incomers to our lands have already stolen enough from us. Please feel free to speculate and research but leave us out of it.

I’m a bit of a “gun guy”. I don’t carry a firearm into the wilderness. I don’t hunt game and I have never hunted. I shoot targets, not creatures. I understand hunting, however I did not grow up in a hunting family, and it simply doesn’t appeal to me. I have nothing against hunting or hunters. I have known avid hunters who are into firearms and collect them. I have also known avid gun guys who occasionally hunt. The hunters and gun guys I have known are conservationists as are most outdoorsmen/women I have known. I would never shoot any Sasquatch, bigfoot, Sabe or any other bipedal primate, especially for the trivial purpose of proving it’s existence. I don’t know any “gun guy” or hunter who would shoot a creature of the bigfoot type for this reason either. Maybe you know some other types of gun guys, but I have never met one. Perhaps you are projecting some of your own prejudices here? Based on my experiences, I don’t think there are many humans who are ready to execute a bipedal primate even if it presented an opportunity to verify their existence. It’s just not a good enough reason for most of us.

There were a couple of sightings of "forest people" out that way also. Not as big as out West, but up to almost eight feet estimated. Back in '72 one scared the hell out of Captain Tom's wife and the maid one morning by chasing the maid down the driveway to the house in Cresent, GA. They said they screamed bloody murder and it broke off.

“Harvesting the proof” by shooting and killing them is a bad idea. I can’t think of a justifiable reason to do this. Fame and fortune are not reasonable motives and anyone who deliberately kills one of these creatures would not be a hero and would likely be shunned by those who want to protect any creature so rare. These are sentient bipedal primates, much like we are, and possibly our closest living relative. Tell your friend to rethink that idea and take a picture or a video instead.

@@bobbwest You don't need to think of a reason if you read my comment with attention. He wants to be ready in case he has to protect himself. Not all encounters with forest people and bears and hogs are friendly.

Excellent presentation Cliff. 👏 Had to laugh when you said 'Bigfoot got back'. I've totally thought that before. 😂

This presentation placed me firmly on the side of a believer in Bigfoot. I watched this for amusement only and expected to roll my eyes a few times and “wow did you hear that sound, must be a Bigfoot” but i have to admit your presentation was very convincing. However, I recently watched the survivorman Bigfoot episode, again only for amusement, but was left, leaning towards “this could actually be real” thanks for this video

Also, you actually changed my mind about the Patterson video, I use to believe it was a complete hoax, never actually knew it was a female Bigfoot but now, I’m not so sure it’s a hoaxs

Jeffrey these creatures are most likely living closer to you than you could ever imagine. Learn yourself about stick and tree structures, then go for a hike in some wooded land near you. You'll be amazed at what you observe. No wood knocking or vocalizing needed on your part. Just educate yourself on stick and tree structures then go observe.
