Watched this in the hospital visiting a dear friend who is not doing well. This picked up my spirits and was greatly needed. Truly grateful for everything comedians and nurses do. The two hardest occupations, as far as cheering people up goes. ❤
@Johnny_Archer6 ай бұрын
I really hope that your friend is doing better; I know what it’s like to be in your position and how tough it can be. I’m glad this special picked up your spirits to an extent. And thank you for recognizing how important nurses are; there are several in my family & several others who are friends of mine. Stay strong, & I wish you well. ✌️❤️
@DanceintheRaine6666 ай бұрын
I saw ~ first hand ~ for 8-10 hours every day for the nine months my loved one was hospitalized following his surviving two strokes suffered on one day...the countless times that nurses buoyed the spirits of the patients in their care. I missed only three days during that time (due to my kids and myself contracting Norwalk at said hospital)....and my respect for the nursing staff increased steadily throughout the months. My main "support" was convincing my hubster to...not...give....up....when a SPECIALIST/Doctor (on rotation on the ward), physio-therapist, Occupational therapist or (more rarely, a Speech Pathologist) would offer an ENTHUSIASM and SOUL CRUSHING "NEGATIVE OPINION"* a casual but DEVESTATING ~ and scientifically INACCURATE ~ opinion such as "If he has NOT RECOUPED X ABILITY by such-and-such days/weeks/months POST STROKE EVENT...then he will NEVER recover." or the INFAMOUS "After such a time period he will PLATEAU and no matter HOW MUCH WORK he EXPENDS he will thereafter experience ZERO positive recovery." If your loved one GIVES UP and REFUSES to push themselves...the above OPINIONS become FACT...but if they NEVER GIVE UP...the OPPOSITE is FACT. It infuriated me to OVERHEAR such prognostations uttered by those whose training and expertise LAGGED BEHIND that of the research scientists and neurologists who were actively involved in post-stroke/acquired brain injury/traumatic brain injury recovery. Brain plasticity and the power of belief systems were less known then, but LOGIC and human nature being what it was, I spent so much energy convincing my loved one (and the other men in the stroke ward) that these "expert opinions"....were....BULLSHIT. I saw COUNTLESS kindnesses and REASSURANCES and....love....generously GIVEN by NURSES in the wake of these all-too-frequent BARBS. Those who offered such CASUALLY CRUEL quips would more often than not LEAVE the ward whilst the patient was STILL IN SHOCK before SPIRALLING INTO DEPRESSION....OBLIVIOUS to the CONSEQUENCE to the loved ones enduring the DEVESTATING EMOTIONAL difficulties caused by the life-changing reality of a brain inury. I saw the AFTERMATH of these casually offered OPINIONS: grown men BREAKING DOWN and SOBBING UNCONTROLLABLY in the wake of such comments... their fragile HOPE snuffed out time and time AGAIN...and who reassured and emotionally supported your LOVED ONES during YOUR ABSENCE? THE NURSES...other physiotherapists...other O.T.'s....other SPEECH PATHS...but primarily IT FELL TO THE NURSES to repair the DAMAGE DONE by the "experts". Also, in each ward, PATIENTS THEMSELVES would become LEADERS and ADVOCATES on behalf of their fellow patients...they (and the nurses) would INTUITIVELY and IMMEDIATELY ACT and offer the love/kindness/human compassion to help ELEVATE THEIR MOODS, such that they can BRAVE the exhausting never-ending GRIND that is post stroke life. The nurses are so loving....kind...PROFESSIONAL...and imperative to post stroke recovery. So many patients are RARELY VISITED by LOVED ONES...the reality of modern lives often precludes this...but these men NEED OUR SUPPORT. It astounded me the countless kindnesses offered by NURSES, other patients and those loved ones who are lucky enough to have the luxury of TIME to invest in a loved ones post stroke recovery. Nurses are INCREDIBLY important in ways far beyond that of the duties they perform daily, despite being OVERWORKED and UNDERSTAFFED. Loved ones likely are oblivious to all such professionals provide...and the nurses themselves are SURPRISED when you OBSERVE the countless "extras" they bestow upon their charges...and VOICE these positive truths. Loved ones need to be KINDER to these caregivers ❤.
