BIGGER... BETTER.. how to separate baby bettas 💚 | Baby Betta Jarring Prototype #2

I think this version is a good improvement. Its still not as awesome as a drip system BUT I was trying to figure out something thats easy for other people to make..from materials that are easy to find.
❤Pros:
I can fit more betta cups
The holes at the bottom will keep the cups cleaner
Stronger filter will handle bioload likeaBOSS
Heater keeps temperature stable
Solid cups wont stress the bettas
❌Cons:
Cant see the bettas that well
Cant flare them
If one gets sick..they all get sick
You dont need a canister filter with this setup..you can also use a sponge filter and a pump to circulate water.

I hope it work out for you. If you can..try to find bigger deli containers. Cups are a bit too small. When I tried the betta babies became a bit depressed in the cups.

I use zip ties for everything too! I love that they are fish and bird safe. Zip tie chains are my budgie's favorite toy!

Amazing! I currently only own 1 betta fish. (Along with a community tank but that doesn’t contain any bettas.) I’ve been thinking of getting more betta fish and breeding them but the only issue was I wasn’t sure how to separate the fry and every method I found seemed very expensive and complicated. But this is something I could do. Thank you!

I find it so interesting seeing you figure this out. You're doing a great job. What are your thoughts on the small cups, could they hinder growth being in there for a month or so?

I was wondering about that..but after some research I found that some breeders in Asia use even smaller containers (thin alcohol bottles)..and the bettas grow fine. My only concern is the bettas mental well being as a small cup is..boring..and there is not much room for exercise. Ideally I would like to upgrade to something bigger .maybe a Deli cup that are frosted (semi transparent) or .5 gallon containers/jugs. I think this will work as a temp setup before bettas are ready to be sold..but keeper fry for breeding or show definitely need to be upgraded to a larger space. At least the needs for water quality and temp are met...thats something ^_^

Yeah I'm from Malaysia. It's very common to see bettas in cups/bottles/containers and they all grow fine with awesome colours!

Use the same egg grate from under the cups, for over them also. Allows for a jump through cover, observation and feeding access.

Also look for poss use of a HOB vs the canister. Smaller and more portable, will agitate the surface for more oxygen and better gas exchange. Just thoughts. Over all an excellent concept. I was thinking bigger tote, and bigger containers, but I like the view blocking on the cups and the bigger holes you put in them, especially into the bottoms.

Thank you, as I get closer to selling..I think I will make a video summary of my thoughts and what things I would have done differently ..the pros and cons. I also wanted to compile one video of their growth from day 1 to the present. To see the development of Bettas. In regards to budget.. I think I overspent a bit because I bought a lot of stuff to "try out" some I did not use. I'll try to put something together..to give people a good idea of the essential basics.

Yup! I might be gettign some future bettas from a few breeders so I will hopefully keep my line going and work to make some awesome koi bettas. I have to keep things small scale for now. But in the future..if I move..and can have a fishroom.. I would like to maybe breed a few different types of bettas. Not sure what will happen.. but its fun to think about.

I never hang lights with anything that is made of plastic, nylon or anything else that can melt. I’ve had bad experiences, not really an issue with fluorescents but I still use steel wire if it’s not being screwed in place.

It's looking great!! Very innovative solution for short term housing. :) An idea for helping with flow through the cups...What if you added some small holes toward the top of the cup like you have at the bottom? That way, water could flow in the top holes as the filtration pulls it out the bottom. Just an idea. :)

I'd like to try this with the large clear deli cups you can find at Restaurant supply stores (like the ones that grocery stores put pineapples in). And get some plastic sheets to make as "walls" for flare training.

32 ounce clear deli containers are a must have for breeders :) I don't know any breeder who doesn't have them around. I don't breed any more and I still have a bunch hanging around just in case lol

i was just thinking you could always get some knitting mesh and make boxes (or cylinders) out of them. it will maximize water flow and space all the way around, and keep the babies separated, you just wouldnt be able to pick them up to check on them unless you cut the bottoms off some clear cups or small square dollar store food storage things and glued the mesh to it...

I'm sure you've been getting asked a ton, but couldn't find a answer in the comments here. Do you have an estimate maybe when you'll sell them? I haven't been subscribed for a long time, but I've been watching your videos for awhile off and on and they've really given me a lot of advice and help so I could get my own lovely bettas. I have two currently and a spot for one more (at the moment). skinsgirl3 males usually have thicker ventrals and flare up a lot more and they have a "beard". females have an egg spot and don't flare up as much. but I think when they are young like this they can change genders I'm not sure lol hope this helped

They can last months.. IMO this is only ok very short term...since keeping so many fish separated is difficult. Ugh..the struggles of Betta Breeding. :P

oh nvm, a month is a long time :( have you seen those big tupperware/rubbermaid boxes with dividers? they're not tall but they are wide and it would give them a bit more space.. and i think they come in different colors so they cant see each other...i know having lots of babies with limited space and resources is hard when it comes to finding a place to keep them

I will look into that. Ideally, I want to get big plastic jars for future babies that would be heated. What I have now is small..but the babies are small as well..so at least they have room to swim.. hopefully I will start selling them soon and they will be going to new bigger and better homes.
