I’m 60 years old, and I just went to bartending school. I’m just not making much money with the job I have now. My kids, family, and friends have always said I would be good at it because I talk to everyone 🤣🤣my sister is the one that suggested that I try bartending

"The meek shall inherit the Earth" - is a mistranslation of what it really says. It says, "those who have swords and know how to use them, but keep them sheathed, will inherit the Earth." Jsyk. Great series, Dave. I'm using all of it to improve my craft and to add value as an employee. ✌️

Damn man! Very good advice. You got deep & talked about real life advice, aside Bartending. Much respect!!. I’m checking more of your vids now. I’ve been in the restaurant industry for years, and recently decided to be a bartender. Not a manager, or chef, a bartender. It is the most fun and most rewarding in my opinion. Thanks for the honest information..

Hiii your videos have helped me develop some confidence when it comes to bartending. I’ve never done it before, I worked as a hostess for over 2 years and would sometimes help out the servers. Customer Service experience: check. Anyway, new big resort in NYC reached out to me saying they liked my resume, went in for an interview.. I start training tomorrow. Am i nervous: hell yes. Am I happy that I showed up & made a good impression even tho I’ve never bartended a day in my life: also hell yes.

What do you put on a resume when your experience is that you bartended private parties a decade ago? (Made the mistake of listning to people telling me to be responsible and get a full time job after college.)

I would definitely put that on your resume. Use your other experience and gear it towards your customer service side.

Good to see some general advice for employment tailored to this field in particular. I've no experience bartending, but I know there's a need and an inkling of a want; information like this is helpful in the process. I remember when I applied for my first job that I was nervous and had absolutely no clue what I was doing, but by poking and prodding I left a good impression. I hope doing something similar now will land me a spot where I can hit the ground running. Thanks

@DaveAllredTheRealBarman6 жыл бұрын
When you say "struggling", exactly what steps and actions are you taking to land that job you want? Are they big actions? Or little bitty actions? Are you hoping you'll get the job? Or are you doing all you can to get it? The plan of action and then following that plan by taking big action is everything.

Ok, I have quastion. I was bartender 20 years ago then home care adistant then kids, back to caring for old people for few years now I have brake from work and want to back to be bartender. Love people and good atmosfer but only one "problem" i stop taking alkohol 12 years ago, I do not want drink, I have 2 monts brake from nit drinking last summer just to check hov I feel about , I had some drinks with friends and smoked cigarets after 12 years aswell ( becaouse without even strong alcohol did'nt kicked me at all, and I never was havy drinker before) and I gained 5 years on my face, looking older, I am 39 and say that alkohol is not for me and not my age for sure. Now, after that intro my quastion is: 👉 On interviev, how my perspective would be revived? As I am nit drinking is stupid and I can nit work behind a bar or will be see more as profecional, I am serving drinks but not drinking, no smoking ( no cigaret brakes needed and no worries that I be drinking alcohol behind bar) Should I say that I am abstynent on interviev or avoid to say it? 👈 Thanku for answer 🌹

Hey Raymond, there are as many different types of bars as there are people, but Applebee's is a great start to get some training and experience behind a real bar making real drinks. As you gain more experience you can level up and find your ideal bar to work at. Congratulations.

Hi dave, im going to have an interview for cruise ship bar. And i have no experience and knowlegde about bar stuff. What would you suggest i do? And i really want to get that job. Thanks
@DaveAllredTheRealBarman6 жыл бұрын
Hi Delly. Landing the interview is the first step, so good job. Being ready for the interview is the 2nd and most important step because if you don't nail the interview, the 1st step is irrelevant. Going over how to prepare for a bartender interview requires more than I can go over in a KZbin comment. You need to be confident, engaging and focus more on your passion for bartending and personality than what it says on your resume. If you've already signed up for TheRealBarCourse, there's an entire section there on how to nail the interview, including the 47 most likely questions you will be asked, as well as questions you should ask the hiring manager. It's like having the answers before the test. Check out that section and you should be ready to kill it during the interview. Best of luck, and let me know how it goes!

Hello Dave, I was curious to know if your program deliveries certification at the end? I understand your program is to teach everything one needs to know but in some cases is a certification more important? I'm interested in taking your course but just want to be assertive that it's exactly what I need to become a bartender with little to no food or beverage related work experience.
@DaveAllredTheRealBarman6 жыл бұрын
Hey Prizma, good question. No, I do not have a certification at the end, and here's why: About half the states in the U.S. require a bartender certification for Alcohol Awareness. That's it. There is no skills and knowledge certification, like a diploma, that you need to bartend. Many bartending schools give the impression that their certification is some monumental achievement and that if you put it on paper it will mean something to the hiring bars. It doesn't. It's worthless. The youth soccer participation certificate you received as an 8 year old is worth more. The alcohol awareness certification some states require is the equivalent to a food handlers card that everyone who works in a restaurant is required to have for safety purposes. And if you work in a state that requires it, you definitely need to get it, but it's not going to help you get hired any faster. Hope that helps. If you want a list of the states that require a certification, leave your email here in the comments and I'll send you my chart. Cheers, Dave

@DaveAllredTheRealBarman5 жыл бұрын
Hey Shara, you've misinterpreted my message. Yes, I provide an online bartending course that has a 30-day money back guarantee because I believe that strongly in it, and I don't want anyone to pay for something that they don't think is valuable. I have no problem with people choosing a bartending school. My point is: 1. They usually cost hundreds of dollars 2. They have a less comprehensive plan than TheRealBarCourse 3. How many did you find that had a 30-day money back guarantee? So if you find one that you feel isn't too expensive, teaches you what you need to learn, and it has a guarantee, go for it. I'm just here to help in any way I can. Cheers.

@DaveAllredTheRealBarman6 жыл бұрын
Not sure what country you're in Zoya, but in the U.S. you can make $50,000 - $10,000 per yer, and yes, I paid my bills for 15 years bartending quite comfortably.

@@DaveAllredTheRealBarman I'm in Lousiana ans got kffered the job at Buffalo Wild Wings but according to some sources it looks like that particular location makes 2/hour. 😫😫😫 tops of xourse too but I'm still worried about my bills being paid and ive been wanting to do it
@DaveAllredTheRealBarman6 жыл бұрын
Yes, it's true that in Louisiana that they only have to pay bartenders $2.13 per hour, but minimum wage is $7.25 per hour so you make that no matter what with tips, which is always going to be more. Like here in CA minimum wage is (on average) around $10/hr. but bartenders can make $30 - $100//hr. in tips, so the wages are just bonus. If I were you, I'd go into Wild Wings and have a drink at the bar and strike up a friendly conversation with the bartender and ask how much they make. Don't let them know you want to work there. Just be casual. See if that gets you the info you need.

Hardley any of this had anything to do with specific bartending mistakes... it's all mindeset. That's great and everything, and while those are nice reminders, I've got all that down... I feel like the title is misleading. This is all ab ot the mindset and communication styles one should adopt and use to help them get a job.

Thanks for the message Offto. I'm confused. Can you explain what you mean when you say the title is confusing? The title is "Biggest Bartender Rookie Mistakes BEFORE GETTING THE JOB..." so to me it seems to be clearly stated in the title that these aren't bartending skill mistakes, but mistakes I see when trying to get the job.
