They'll eat any cat or small dog that comes their way (and you can hear them killing animals outside almost every night, they have the eeriest howls), leading many people to keep their animals indoors. I'm sure pumas would do the same but they're very rare where I live.

I've visited cougars in a rescue facility. They do indeed purr--and those that have had bonded human relationships are quite affectionate. Not that their mood can't change in a split second to "apex predator" and suddenly see you through this lens--but those who know them can usually bring them back.

hearing them meow is so cool! these animals are so dangerous yet meow and purr just like any house cat. i always look at my cats and wonder where their ancestors came from and how they domesticated cats to begin with. i remember growing up my favorite animal was a cheetah and i would say that statement has stayed true as an adult. i just love cats, big and small and learning new things about them every day is so interesting to me
