Cheetahs have to get taught how to hunt by their mother, so if these were raised in captivity they probably wouldn't know how. House cats seem to be natural hunters, they figure it out all on their own.

Vitor Iturriaga he wouldn’t be in danger per se, they recognize him as family/friend. But never the less, a child or stranger might get frightened and that kind of fear can breed anxiety. Human skin is fragile and even though those leopards might play around, their claws still could scratch and tear.

True dat! But Cheetah’s actually are a lot more timid & skittish than most of the other large predators in their environment. Lions, hyenas & leopards are all much more aggressive than cheetahs. The African savannah has a LOT of large predators & cheetah’s sit several ranks down from the apex position. They’d rather flee than fight most of the time when confronted.

Yes... they were both playing "stalk-n-pounce" it's practice for the real thing when young and old. But adult leopards in the wild don't get to play like this because they become solitary and territorial against other leopards. So it's nice when adult leopards get to keep playing and pounce on their friends.

I highly doubt any of the big cats there would want to hurt this man. These guys are taking well care of the animals, there is not a lot of things that could make them aggresive. Problem with the big animals is that sometimes they don't know how powerful they are. A playful paw strike could injure a human. My cat loves to ambush me and run away after a few little thumps at my ankle. It's not a problem because she is 10 pounds but I wouldn't want to play the same game with a leopard

I notice that even though leopard in the cage was apparently attacking, he did it that much slower than he would do in the wild. He was just playing with the owner. Whether their preferred style is an ambush & fight or a run, they are all cats, and they do what cats do.

The Cheetah test surprised me with the result. Very cool that after a year of separation, he clearly remembered you. With fondness at that. I had to laugh when he started grooming you. To him, we're probably like mostly furless, defective cheetahs. So watching him try to groom your face was hilarious. He's just thinking to himself "Ah, poor thing still hasn't grown all his fur".

It's believed house cats see their owners as giant, clumsy cats, and when they bring you a dead bird/mouse/etc. they're trying to feed you because they think you're incapable X'D There's multiple instances were it's believed animals see humans as defect versions of themselves.

@@Tesoro1996 Imprinting is another scenario where an animal can mistake it's, or a human's, race for being the same. It's actually pretty much proven at this point that given circumstances many animals can see humans as the same species or family.

I got to pet and meet a cheetah at the Miami zoo. They were doing a breeding program there because cheetahs were lacking in genetic diversity. But I remember thinking the cheetah reminded me more of a dog than a cat. She was super friendly and liked to lick and be petted.

Because they are totally different animals. Just because they are often named together doesn't mean they have a similar significance for humans. Our ancestors were probably killed by leopards and their relatives for millennia.

It’s crazy how kind the leopards were when he was petting them but when he turned his back they were stalking immediately. Goes to show you these are wild animals no matter what. The cheetahs are also so much smaller than leopards and would struggle against prey the size of an adult male human. They are seemingly very sweet with him. What a blessing and rewarding job.

Cheetahs can absolutely kill humans. They’re just not ambush predators. A feral cat the size of a cheetah is more dangerous than a cheetah. Well, pumas and leopards are around the same size.

Just talking out of my ass since I'm not educated on big kitties like this, but I think it's very possible that the leopards were playing. Playfighting without intent to harm is a thing, after all. Of course, I guess you wouldn't want them getting used to that ...
