Cat are the last manufacturer of this kind of dump truck to make "direct drive" drivelines i.e. an engine, transmission and differential. Komatsu and Terex for example do it the same way it's done in a diesel electric locomotive; a large engine drives and equally large generator, which powers four electric motors, one on each wheel hub

ka7wyf why do you have such a boner for 793's and 795's? Payload on a 795 is 345 not 400. The 797 has a payload of 400.
@ashermerkabah9 жыл бұрын
ka7wyf B hasten is correct, the 797 is much bigger than the 793. It says the payload is 400 but the coal mine I work at doesn't consider them overloaded until after 432 tons.
@erikakrausmann51779 жыл бұрын
+ashermerkabah The 797, like many of Cats products, are built to withstand far greater payloads then what is advertised. This is done for two reasons. One, is safety. The other, is engineering. If I built a dump truck that I want to haul 400 tons, I would engineer the truck so that it could take as much as 475 to 500 tons. The reasons for this become clearer when we examine the wear and tear these machines must endure 24/7. Mining operations are brutal on these trucks. Drivers have different driving styles. The quest for the largest biggest truck rest squarely on the engineers that designe such vehicles. Catapiller is a world leader in product design. Especially as it relates to mining operations. Though there are many manufactures out there, like Hitachi, Liebherr and others, I strongly believe Catipillar does a remarkable job engineering there trucks to withstand far greater loads then are advertised. The 797 is a beast to be sure. It can swallow heaven and earth 24/7 and keep mining operations going for decades on in.🔧
@danc11977 жыл бұрын
jam63112 cat 797 is used the most because cost of operation versus workload. The bigger trucks are much slower, therefore less productivity at the end of the day. It's not about how much you haul per load, but how much you haul per day.

This statement is debatable. As I stated above, Catipiller engineers their product line to withstand far greater loads then what is advertised. Two reasons. Safety and engineering. Sure, the Bela might say it can carry a larger payload, but is it engineered to accept even larger payloads. Honestly, this whole discussion is rendered mute when we consider that Catapiller is a tried and true product line with decades if fulfilling mining operations across the globe. Often imitated, but rarely duplucated.🔧

+Erika Krausmann True, I love the cat haul trucks I drive. We have Unit Rigs and Komatsu's and they all suck really bad. Cats are the most comfortable and reliable of them all. You're also right about the more than advertised payloads, the 400 ton trucks actually aren't considered overloaded at my mine until 432 tons, and that's because of the rating of the bridgestone tires, not the truck necessarily. I've been overloaded a couple times in the past 2 years up to 500 tons. 502 being the most ever I've seen.

I love this Truck! Look at chuck much protection the tipper gives to the driver, serial metres. I have not checked into the largest Haul Truck in the world at this moment in time other than view the company video, but there is very much less protection for the driver in the Belaz Truck, and whether that might mean it would not get a safety Licences in Europe America and or South America I am not sure, but the enormous cover over the drivers cab in the Cat 797F would suggest this might be a newer class of truck and would not match against the Russian Belaz very well, though of cough the Belaz would be just fine for Autonomous Mines with no divers.

They are Safety cables ...used to support the body in the up position when working on the truck, just in case the cylinders come down . Safety feature.

@@petegee2400 I've seen many dump trucks with a safety device to keep the bed up, but it's always a piece of square stock on the frame to hold the bed up. I guess with something so big it would be hard to do it the other way. Thanks.

As I understand it, the Cat 797 is the largest mechanically driven of highway truck in the world, other truck like the Unit Rig, now owned by Cat are driven by electric motors at the wheel. All the engine does in these trucks is drive a generator.

I've been a design engineer for almost 20 years. If I cash in my 401K I might be able to buy a spare tire for that thing.

I've heard those things have a massive quad turbocharged V20 Diesel engine that has at least 3,400 HP and 16,000 lbs of torque diesel in those monsters. That's an insane amount of power right there!

you would think youd notice a giant yellow thing the size of a house before you would need lights to tell you its nearly on top of you.
