Videos of the strong thunderstorms that passed thru Austin, Texas on the night of 16 March 2023. This is one of the most frequent lightning storms I have ever seen. The show was so spectacular because our location, about 30 miles WNW of Austin, was in clear air, as the cold front that was moving from the NW to the SE was just to the north and then east of us. At the time we actually had scattered clouds over hour house in Spicewood.
We are looking just south of due east. On the distant ridge, about 1.5 miles away, is highway 71.
These videos were taken with two different cell phones, the first my Samsung Flip 3 phone and the second, my Samsung S20FE. In addition, in the lower right corner of each video are the shooting parameters I have used, as I changed them to find the best night, lightning pictures.
All videos were taken from inside the house, looking through a window. Maybe next time I will be better prepared.
